Meyer went off to stow the jewels in the safe—of course, he couldn't know they had been there all along—until he could return them to their rightful owners. I joined Cassie at the breakfast buffet.
"Everything all right?" I murmured, reaching for a plate. Cassie gave a quick nod, her gaze focused upon spooning marmalade on her toast, but I could see the flush on her neck and cheeks.
One glance over my shoulder was enough to see that Miss Joubert had already spread the news about Kendall sneaking out of Cassie's room. Mrs. Barrington and Mrs. Hollister were huddled beside the singer, glaring in our direction.
