Chapter 18 The dog abruptly lifted its head, c*****g its ears toward the door. Someone was coming. I shoved the pick into Kendall's hand. "Lock the door," I whispered. My hands were shaking too badly to do it myself. One benefit of working with a thief is that he tends to act first and ask questions later. Kendall soon had the lock secured and the lantern shuttered. We huddled with the dog in a corner behind the worktable, as the heavy tread of several men approached.
