"Rejection", "Second Chance", "Alpha"

After a painful rebirth, I did the unthinkable: I rejected my fated Alpha mate. Now, torn between the torment of our broken bond and the forbidden solace of a mysterious rogue, I must forge my own destiny. This is my second chance, not for love, but for revenge.

I Reject You
Chapter 1: I Reject You The scent of night-blooming jasmine and expensive wax hung heavy in the air, a cloying perfume of celebration that made my stomach turn. I stared at my reflection. The girl in the mirror was a stranger, her face unlined by betrayal, her silver eyes bright with a hope I had long since forgotten. She wore a gown of spun moonlight, a gossamer prison shimmering with pearls. A sacrifice dressed for the altar. My hands, resting on the cold vanity table, trembled. Not with excitement. With hate. A pure, cold hatred that had been my only companion in the abyss, the force that had dragged my soul back from death and shoved it into this too-young, too-innocent body. "You look beautiful, my lady," whispered Lily, my handmaiden, her eyes shining. "The Alpha will be breathless. The Moon Goddess has truly blessed you." The Moon Goddess. I had to bite my cheek to keep from laughing. Blessing? She had chained me to a monster. "He is the most powerful Alpha in three generations," Lily prattled on. "And you, Lady Elena, are his Fated Mate. It's like a storybook." It was. A horror story. And I had already read to the final, bloody page. My gaze drifted to the window. Below, the grand hall was filled with werewolves from across the continent, all gathered to witness the sacred bonding of Kaden Windcaller, the ascendant Alpha, and me. They were here to witness the beginning of my end. Again. "Elena." My mother’s voice cut through my thoughts. "It's time. Kaden is waiting." *Kaden is waiting.* The name was a shard of ice in my heart. Kaden. My fated one. My murderer. "Remember to smile," she instructed, fussing with my hair. "You represent the Silvermoon family." Oh, I wouldn't show weakness. Not this time. I gave her a stiff nod. My face felt like a porcelain mask. Inside, my wolf, once ecstatic at the thought of Kaden, was now a silent shade, animated only by the echoes of my agony. At the top of the grand staircase, my father offered his arm, his chest puffed with pride. This union was his political masterpiece. "My beautiful girl," he murmured. "Today, you fulfill your destiny." My destiny was not to be a jewel in Kaden's crown. My destiny was to be free. We began our descent. Every head turned. The air was electric. I saw envy in the eyes of she-wolves, respect in the gazes of Alphas, and triumph in the eyes of the Windcaller elders. They were all looking at a prize. Kaden's prize. And then, I saw him. He stood on a raised dais before the obsidian altar, a monument to the Moon Goddess. Kaden Windcaller. He was exactly as I remembered, a cruel twist of the knife. Impossibly handsome, with hair the color of midnight and eyes like molten gold. He radiated power, an aura of dominance that demanded submission. His scent, a mix of crisp mint and an oncoming storm, was the same scent that had once made me dizzy with desire. Now, it was poison. He watched me descend, a slow, possessive smile playing on his lips. It was the smile of a king surveying his most prized acquisition. He believed, with every fiber of his arrogant being, that he owned me. Our eyes locked. In my past life, this moment had been my undoing. The Fated Mate bond had flared to life, a searing, intoxicating connection that had erased all thought but *him*. This time, I was ready. I had spent my final moments in my last life, a blade in my gut, memorizing the raw, soul-crushing betrayal. My father placed my hand in Kaden's. A jolt of energy, hot and familiar, shot up my arm. The bond, singing its siren song. *Mine,* a voice whispered in my mind. His voice. My Alpha. I fought back a wave of nausea. Kaden's grip was firm, his thumb stroking my hand in a gesture that felt like the brand of a slaver. "You are even more radiant than I imagined, Elena," he murmured. "The Moon Goddess has been kind." My heart was a block of ice. I offered him nothing. No smile, no blush, no submission. A flicker of a frown crossed his face. He was not used to being met with anything less than adoration. The High Elder stepped forward, his voice booming. "We gather on this hallowed night to witness the most sacred of unions! A union forged by the will of the great Moon Goddess herself!" A reverent sigh swept through the crowd. "Kaden Windcaller, do you accept this woman, Elena Silvermoon, as your Fated Mate, your Luna, the other half of your soul?" Kaden's golden eyes never left mine. The smile returned, laced with a warning. He tightened his grip. *Obey.* "I accept her," he declared, his voice ringing with certainty. "She is mine, as destiny has decreed." Applause and happy howls erupted. The High Elder turned to me. "Elena Silvermoon, do you accept this man, Kaden Windcaller, as your Fated Mate, your Alpha, the other half of your soul?" This was it. Silence descended. Every wolf held their breath. My parents watched, their faces glowing. Kaden watched, his expression one of utter confidence. I let the memories fuel me: his cold dismissal, my family's slaughter, my own blood on the floor. I gently pulled my hand from his grasp. His smile faltered. Confusion flickered in his eyes. I took one step back, creating a small, defiant space between us. A chasm. I lifted my chin and met his golden gaze. There was no fear in me, only the cold emptiness of the grave. I let the silence stretch, building the tension. Then, I spoke. My voice was not loud, but it cut through the silence like glass. "I, Elena Silvermoon, reject you, Kaden Windcaller, as my Fated Mate." For a heartbeat, the world stopped. The High Elder's jaw hung open. My mother's face went ashen. My father looked as though he'd been struck by lightning. And Kaden… the mask of the perfect Alpha shattered, his face twisting into a snarl of pure rage. Then, the pain hit. It was the sound of a soul being torn in two. A white-hot agony exploded behind my eyes, as if my very essence was being shredded. I gasped, my knees buckling, but I choked down the scream clawing its way up my throat. I would not give him the satisfaction. He felt it too. He staggered back, his hand clutching his chest as if he'd been stabbed. A low, guttural growl rumbled from him, pure animal fury. The hall erupted into chaos. "What did she say?" "She rejected him?" "Impossible!" Before anyone could move, Kaden recovered. He lunged, closing the distance in a fluid, predatory motion. His hand shot out, grabbing my arm in a steel grip. He loomed over me, his shadow swallowing me whole as the full force of his Alpha command washed over me—a crushing pressure designed to bring any lesser wolf to their knees. But I held my ground, fueled by the agony of the broken bond and the fire of my hatred. I met his furious gaze without flinching. "You will take it back," he snarled, his voice a low, deadly threat. The pain was a roaring inferno, but I looked up at the monster who had destroyed my life, my family, my everything. And for the first time in two lifetimes, I felt a flicker of savage joy. His face, contorted with rage, was the most beautiful thing I had ever seen. He leaned closer, his voice a furious whisper. "You do not have the right to reject me."
