Fifteen

“You are seriously lying to me and you are really telling me something so crazy expecting me to think it is true? You just want me to believe you and fall for your trickery, not going to happen”. I said those words to Jack after he informed me of the ridiculous accusation that Alpha Kane had decided to sentence his father to death. I could not think of a single reason for him to do such a thing.

“You really think I'm lying to you? Why would I lie about this? You go ask him right now and he will tell you exactly what he did.” He said to me and I narrowed my eyes at him before. I took a deep breath.

“Fine, I'll go but do not follow me.” I said to him before walking out of the room. Of course he could not listen.

“After you made it out of the room, I was hoping you'd go somewhere else. Do not follow me or I am not going to have a word with him and tell him to change the sentence.” I said to Jack and that seemed to be the only thing that finally got his brain to function differently.

The only thing that finally got him to accept the fact that I had the upper hand this time around and all he could do was listen to me.

“All right, I know you'll be back and listen. Just think about what I told you.

I know what you've always wanted and I'm ready to give it to you. I'll break up with Charlotte and we can be together finally. I'll treat you better.

We are mates for a reason.” He said to me and I really could not believe the words coming out of his mouth. Most importantly, I could not believe that he actually believed I would fall for such a thing.

Did he really think I was some kind of i***t right now?

“Jack, you are really hilarious. I do not care about being with you anymore. I thought that was clear to see. You said the moon goddess made the worst mistake with us, didn’t you?”

“No, It is not clear to see. I know you still have feelings for me. It is not easy to get rid of feelings that have lasted since we were young.

I've always known about your silly crush on me. That's probably why the moon goddess has put us together. You must have been begging me day and night for it to be that we are mates”.

He said to me and I could not help the laugh that escaped from my mouth. “You really do make me laugh. Stay there.”

I said to him I could not let him waste more of my time. I do not even know where to find him but I assumed he would be in the meeting room and I was really not wrong. The only problem? I really could not go inside seeing as there was an ongoing meeting and of course I was absolutely correct about one thing.

I had stirred up too much turmoil within this place. The peck house was usually more peaceful than this. Well at least for other people.

For me it was always a nightmare apart from when I was with Jack which was now a new nightmare of its own. All the memories that I thought were supposed to be good were actually now cringy and horrible for me to think about. I moved back a bit, took some steps backwards so as to avoid anyone seeing me.

I could clearly see the tension on everyone's face. Well what I could not see was Alpha Kane because he was seated at a different side of the room, but I could hear everything that they had to say. I was the topic for discussion and clearly they were not okay with what Alpha Kane had decided to do.

“You see, Alpha Kane,what you have decided to do is affecting a lot of things right now. We cannot sentence our stand in Alpha to death just because you are here now. He has been very good to the pack.

He's the reason that we did not crumble before our enemies while you were gone. You have been gone for five years and during that time he really worked hard to gain a good position in everyone's heart.” One of the members of the council was saying and I wish I could see Alpha Kane's face right now but I seriously couldn't and I had no idea what he thought of this meeting.

“I get that!”his voice responded and I paid even more attention.

“ but he heard me when I said no one is to lay a hand on my Luna and he still decided to do so.”

What? Is that what this was about? I really had no idea. When did he even touch me? I quickly recalled the moment when he reached for me and squeezed my arm.

That was really it and he was deciding to sentence him to death for that?

“ Yes Alpha Kane, we really understand that you did not like it but he deserves a second chance just because of what he has done for our pack”. Another member said and I suddenly felt something falling on my skin before it pinched me out.

I gasped as silently as I could before I turned around. There she was Charlotte looking at me with a smirk.

“ Oh goodness we should go inside, why are you just listening in?” She asked me and I crossed my arms over my chest before rolling my eyes at her.

I could not even bother to grace her with any words right now.

“You know I've always hated him. He should actually die.

I'm actually glad because of your arrival here. I'm actually happy that you're here because if you are the reason that he is deciding to sentence him to death I owe you one!” she said to me and I really could not believe her.

“Just stop talking to me.”

I said to her and she just giggled behind me before she took some steps and stood in front of me.

“Don't stand in front of me like that”. I said to her and she turned to look at me once before she screamed dramatically and threw herself into the room landing hard on the floor with a thud.

“Ouch! Ow! Oh that really hurt. She pushed me. Why did she push me? How could you do that to me?” She asked and I was in absolute shock.

There was absolutely no way she had just done that. So shamelessly even. They quickly rushed to her side of course.

She was Charlotte. The beloved Charlotte and everyone had to make sure she was okay.

“This is the daughter of our greatest warrior.

She does not deserve this.” One of the members exclaimed as they helped Charlotte stand. She limped and pretended she really could not walk right now until she was carried over to the couch and made to lay there while she continued to wince in fake pain.

“How did I push you? You just launched your body towards the floor like you are diving into a pool. I did not push her. I didn't.”

I said and nobody seemed to believe me even though they would not say anything. They were just continuously looking at me with disgust on their face.

“Everyone, leave her.

Leave the woman alone.” Alpha Kane instructed and everyone that was by Charlotte quickly left her side.

“You fall for trickery so easily.

I have to re-evaluate who deserves to be in this council.” He said and they all had looks of shock on their faces. “There's no need for you to do that.”

I said to him and he quickly grabbed my hand before pulling me out of the room.

“What are you doing here?” He asked me and I just sighed before giving it a quick thought. Was I going to sound ungrateful? He had decided to punish Jack's father for what he had done to me but the punishment just seemed too brutal.

At the same time, I did not want to seem ungrateful. It was really hard for me to decide what to say to him right now.

“I told you to look around and tell everyone what you want to change here.

Why are you eavesdropping on this useless conversation right now?” He asked me and I just sighed again before finally gathering the courage to say something.

“I really don't think you gave him a fair sentence. He can't be sentenced to death.”

I said to him and he quickly smirked at me before arching his brows. “You know what he did?” He asked me and I shrugged my shoulders.

“Did he touch me? Is that why you're sentencing him to death?” I asked him and he nodded his head quicker than I thought he would.

“You are correct. I thought you didn't know.

I'm surprised you were defending him. Hasn't this man made your life a living hell?” He asked me and yes, it was totally true but I'm not so sure how I felt about him being killed because he touched me.

“Please, Alpha Kane, don't kill him just because of me.

The guilt would consume me.” I said to him and suddenly his face changed, his brows fell and a grimace quickly formed on his face.

“Why would you feel guilty for such a thing, that is my sentence! I plan on being a man of my word, Paige.

If I'm not a man of my word, no one will ever respect me. I said the penalty for laying a hand on you is death and I need to make it happen.” He said to me, he just looked so serious.

“Well, can you at least negotiate?” I asked him.

“Well, just because he was doing a very important job while you were gone and he just so happens to be someone of a high rank. Surely they can't be treated the same as a common wolf that had never set foot in the pack house!”. I said to him and he quickly shook his head

“I never said I'd be open for negotiations.”

He said to me and I quickly grabbed his hand and interlocked our fingers before he could get away.

“ Please, please just don't do it.” I said to him and he seemed to get a bit uncomfortable so I quickly let go of his hand.

“Fine, I'll think about it for the rest of today but I never said I will be changing my mind. Don't get your hopes up”. He reminded me that he was only going to consider and I nodded my head.

It was the best that I could do. Jack could not say that I didn't try.

“I'm done here for the day.

We should go somewhere nice. Where do you want to go?” He asked me not a question I was really expecting to get so I really did not have an answer immediately.
