Chapter eight Good morning

I woke up from golden sunshine flooding the room. I knew it was past my normal hour I get up and I wiggled out of their warm embrace. Ashton moved a little and sighed. I thought for sure he had woken up. I held my breath for a moment and waited. He didn’t move again so I was able to wiggle my way out. Tiptoeing out of the bedroom I managed to not make a peep. I closed the door quietly behind me and went to my room. I dressed quickly in jeans, a purple lace tank top and my high top sneakers. I pulled my hard into a messy bun and went downstairs to get to work. Luckily no one was awake yet so i had time, not a lot of it but I can make do. I started with my chores, got most of those done before I started breakfast. I figured something easy would be best, so I made French toast and eggs. My stomach was killing me, I made some coffee. While that was brewing I ran to the downstairs guest bathroom looking for Tylenol or something to help. I found some ibuprofen took four pills from the jar and walked back to the kitchen. My coffee was done so I made myself a cup took the pills and hoped for the best. While I was waiting for people to wake up to serve breakfast I decided to see if there was any blood left over from my accident. I found a few stains nothing major so I went to the kitchen looking for club soda and lemon juice. I found some got a bucket from under the sink mixed them together. Grabbed my little scrub brush and off to work I went. The stains were almost gone when I heard someone with heels on walking around the kitchen I figured I’d finish this before I went to serve breakfast. I finished the spots up in no time at all, picked up my cleaning stuff and headed to the kitchen. It was Lucinda sitting at the table with her coffee reading the newspaper. She hardly looked up from it but why would she? I dumped the bucket rinsed out the everything out and put it away. I washed my hands, made her a breakfast plate and brought it to the table. She looked up at me then her face was in shock. “What are you doing?” She demanded. “My job?” I was suddenly worried that I’d been fired. “No, this isn’t your job anymore Emma. You live here yes but you don’t work here anymore. You are my sons’ mate. They won’t be happy if they know you’ve been working considering the doctor told you to take it easy.” She scolded me. “So what do I do now?” I asked a bit confused. After years of doing the same thing every day you kinda don’t know how to function without your routine. “Enjoy your breakfast,” she smiled. I made my self a plate, refreshed my coffee and headed out on the patio. This was something I had always wanted to do. I had always wanted to eat breakfast on this porch, watching the birds fly by. I could get use to this. I was so enveloped in my own world I hadn’t noticed I wasn’t alone anymore. The twins hand both joined me at the table with gifts. “Good morning Emmie,” greeted Ashton. “Good morning baby,” chirped Dom. I turned and smiled, “good mornin boys.” “Whatcha doin?” Ashton asked. “Enjoying the birds, fresh air.” I shrugged. “No I mean why did you make breakfast and clean this morning?” An annoyed Dom asked. “My job?” I answered softly “Emma you don’t work here anymore,” Dom’s husky voice was soft. “I know but I’ve been doing it so long old habits die hard.” I explained. “So what do you wanna do today Emmie? Dom is going to help our father today to do some pack stuff. So I have you all to my self today.” Ashton gloated I thought about it for a minute then thought it’d been awhile since I could go see my mother. “Can we go see my mom?” I asked. “Our future Mother-in-law, of course you can baby.” Added Dom. Dom gave me a kiss on the forehead and off to the porch he went to go meet with his father. “Are you all ready then?” Ashton asked me. “Yeah I just need a sweater it’s kinda cold in the hospital.” I said while getting up. “ I have the perfect one,” he smiled as he got up from the table I waited in the patio. He came back smiling ear to ear with a red and white jacket over his arm. “Here wear this,” he handed me his letterman’s jacket from high school. He’d lettered in football. I smiled and stood and tried it on. It was a little bit too big for me but it was so warm, comfortable and smelled like him. It was his way of marking me. “Thank you,” I couldn’t help but keep smelling it and smiling my wolf whined for him. We walked to his car and drove the fifteen minutes to where my mother was. She has MS and it had gotten really bad. She’d had surgeries and was in recovery now. We parked in the second parking lot and had to use the trolley to take us to the main entrance. It wasn’t bad but it always made me a little sad that this is where my mother had been off and on for years. I knew where her room was and headed for the C elevator, pushed the button and waited. An elevator behind us dinged and opened. We jumped in and I pushed the fifth floor. The elevator closed it’s doors and wheezed to life towing us upward. I always hated elevators and I leaned on Ashton. The door’s finally open and we were in the recovery ward. My mothers room was just down the hallway. “Before we go in can you give me a few minutes alone with her I want to talk to her about a few things first?” I asked him looking down to avoid the hurt look in his eyes. “Of course my love,” he seemed to understand. I walked into her room and she was awake watching the news. I knew she’d notice that I was wearing a letterman’s jacket. “Hey sweetie,” mom greeted me. Even when she was having bad days she always tried to be chipper. “Oh you have a boyfriend! How lovely tell me all about him.” she cooed. “We’ll it’s not a boyfriend it’s a mate. Turns out that if you mate is an identical twin then you have two. My mates are Ashton and Dom Sparling. But mom have you heard of anyone in our family changing early?” I asked. She wouldn’t meet my gaze now, I knew she was hiding something from me. “No, but I have heard of someone changing late,” she was trying to distract me. Everyone knew that late bloomers were a thing. “I changed your name and birth date when your father left. He was a bad man Emma. He said that if he ever found you he’d kill anyone who stood in his way. So when he left my parents and I mad a plan we burned down his and my house and the fire burned so hot it would have incinerated anyone and anything. We faked your death by saying you were at home asleep with a babysitter while in reality you were with me having your name changed and new documents made. You actually turned eighteen last year and are going to be nineteen this coming spring. We thought that if you didn’t know your birthdays true date we could fool your mind into believing that you were a year younger than you really were. It looked like it worked until now apparently.” She was not looking at me anymore but looking at the large man who had came in the room when he’d heard something he didn’t like. “You lied to her, to everybody? I spent longer with out her than I needed to because of you!” He spat at her. “Ashton, calm down there was a good reason. I know you’d do anything for my little girl to keep her safe. This was necessary, he’s apart of a lycanthrope cult. I know you know how dangerous they are. He aligns himself with witches, warlocks, vampires just to name a few. He is a rogue now so he’s just as strong as you.” My mother’s face was sullen. “Your grandparents went on the run after he left to make him think I had left with them. Ashton’s parents had helped us burn the house and hide you. They knew about the false identity we had given you. They hold told everyone that my family had left once their daughter Emily Alice Trenton had died. I’m not even in the hospital under my own name. Your name is now Emma Lynn Quinn. Quinn because that is your grandmother’s maiden name so that they would always be able to find you. Your birthday is the same but your year was pushed back a year. I’m sorry to both of you I am but my job as your mom is to protect you.” She was getting tired from this so I didn’t ask her anything more. “I hope you all can forgive me,” she whispered as she started to fall asleep. I got up and kissed her forehead and whispered, “always mom I love you.” Ashton wasn’t happy as we walked to the car but I knew I understood he would have done the same if our baby was in danger. I knew he had mind-linked Dom so he would be upset when he came home.
