CHAPTER ONE
Dahlia’s pov
I woke up in the morning to my family singing me happy birthday.
I walked down the stairs after I got ready for school to see a mountain of chocolate chip pancakes with whipped cream and maple syrup on the dining table.
"Happy Birthday sweetheart," my mom said as she walked to me and kissed my cheek.
"Thank you," I said.
I ran to the table and started stuffing my face full of pancakes as my dad walked downstairs towards the table.
He came up behind me and kissed my forehead.
"Happy birthday darling"
"Thanks," I said with food in my mouth.
Today is my 16th birthday, meaning I'm going to know who my mates are - the most eager has been my wolf, Amethyst.
"Dahlia?" Oh yeah, I spaced out a bit. I am also known for that.
"Oh my god, thank you so much," I said to my mother and father.
I'm practically their only child now, since my older sister changed packs after she found out that her mate was the beta of the White-sea Pack. I'll always miss her. Good thing she visits from time to time, otherwise I would've put on some tatiana manaois and started looking through our family photos.
I am in the Dark-sun pack, one of the biggest and most successful packs in Australia.
Humans don't know about werewolves to this day, and we'd like to keep it that way. The werewolf kind is mostly settled in deep forests where it's most likely to never be found. Sometimes some humans do find out and they don't like what we are. Those people are called hunters who dedicate their whole lives to killing as many werewolves as possible. Most of them recruit the rogues and make a deal with them. This is kind of ironic since you're working with the people you want to stop, but I guess they don't think about that fact too much.
"Finish up Lia, Lilith should be here to pick you up for school," my mom said.
"Today you will meet your mate, aren't you excited," she said.
I smiled at the thought of meeting my mate, the love of my life.
"Yes," I said as my dad sat down with a frown on his face.
"You are growing up too fast, darling," he said.
I laughed and said, "I am sixteen, Dad".
"Yes, practically a baby," he said, smiling.
I rolled my eyes. My dad is very overprotective of me since I am his daughter and only child.
My parents met on my mom's 18th birthday and my dad was two years older than her. It was love at first sight for them and a year later they got married and had me.
A knock at the door brought me back from my thoughts and I walked up to the door. Opening it I saw my best friend Lilith.
She gathered me into a hug and knocked the breath out of me. "Happy Birthday Lia" she said.
"Let go, you are about to kill me," I said, laughing.
"Whoops," she said, letting go, "Aren't you excited? Today's the day you meet your mate," she said.
"Oh my god yes," I said, "I am finally meeting him.
I said, letting out a squeal.
Lilith and I have been friends since we met in kindergarten. I was sitting alone on the playground until she walked up to me and shared her snack with me, so that we were inseparable.
When I step out, I look at my reflection. I have long fiery red hair, which I usually keep in a ponytail or bun. I’m a brown-eyed skinny 5’2 babe.
I grab my bag and head out with Lilith to go to our school.
As we walked, all I could think about was my mate and who he could be. I went through the first half of school without meeting him and headed to lunch with Lilith.
We continued on the day with nothing out of the ordinary happening until I reached my sixth-period class.
As I was walking to Calculus, I smelled sandalwood and vanilla coming from behind me.
"MATE, MATE" Amethyst screamed in my head. I felt a door open to my side and hit me in the stomach, making me fall down, but before I hit the ground a pair of arms were wrapped around my waist, and instantly I felt ting.
I looked up to find green eyes staring at mine.
And we both said at the same time "Mate".
Just as we said that, he dropped me, and my head hitting the floor in the process, making me curse out loud. I took a deep breath as I felt the dizziness take me by surprise. It couldn't have been that hard. I sat down on the floor and started rubbing my head, hoping that the pain and dizziness would go away.
My anonymous mate took me by the arm and pulled me up, my head then hitting his chest. He started walking away with me struggling to catch up to him. He opened a random door and led me inside, he turned on the light and that's when I realized where I was.
Why did he pull me into the janitor's closet?
I still don't know who my mate is, all I saw was his eyes, which, by the way, are gorgeous.
He turned on the light. And I can see his face. Oh, god, please tell me this is a joke.
Standing in front of me was the alpha, MY MATE IS THE ALPHA!!. He has long brown hair, blue eyes, and he is built. I mean he's got broad shoulders and everything.
"Oh no, this can't happen, why me?" he says with a mixture of anger and frustration on his face.
"What's your full name?" he asked me while looking at if any people were passing by.
"Dahlia Reed" I mutter lowly.
"Well Dahlia, I don't want the Luna of the biggest pack in Australia to be a weak ass who can't even defend herself. So I, Raid Jackson, reject Dahlia Reed as my mate."
My heart felt like it was being cut in half, and it wouldn't go away. I felt the tears in my eyes, but I wasn't going to give him that satisfaction, so I collected myself and growled.
I guess he expected me to break into tears. Oh, he's so wrong!
"Well, I guess we're on the same page because I didn't want my mate to be a asshole with his head so far up the ass that he can't see".
"I, Dahlia Reed, accept your rejection. One day when you realize what you lost, I hope you die of regret." •
