Although I had found my new family that wouldn't give up anything, I was still sometimes reminded that for me to find my new family I had been rejected. It somehow angered me that while I was alone he had gotten his dream life.
When I was younger, I had always dreamed of finding my mate and falling in love with him. I wanted to get married, have pups, and have a perfect life like my parents have.
The day of my sixteenth birthday, all my hopes and dreams had come crashing down with just a few words.
Weak was what Raid had called me and even though I didn't want his words to bother me, it was what helped me achieve my goals.
Still, a part of me always wondered what would have happened if he hadn't rejected me that day. I might fall in love one day, but I will never have the bond of a soulmate again in my life. With all my racing thoughts, I quickly fell asleep awaiting the new day.
The next day we all piled into our cars and went to a breakfast bar before we went to Dark Sun.
Surrounded by the warriors, I informed them of the plan for our next two weeks in the pack.
"Meredith, Skylar, and Asher, you will help the alpha and his warriors plan an attack on the rouges hunting Dark Sun. Ryker, Logan, Valerie, and Creed are training the warriors with the Midnight pack's basic training." I said to the warriors.
"Ethan and I will partake in both the planning and training of the warriors."
They all replied to me by saying "Yes Beta Reed."
"Ok. Let's go now, don't want to be late" I said to them. We paid the check and drove towards the Dark Sun Pack. Five minutes away from the pack my heart started racing at the thought of seeing everybody from my old pack.
"You are OK," Ethan asked me as he looked over from the driver's seat. I simply nodded at him without saying anything.
We drove onto the pack lands, parked, and filed out of our cars.
Before I got out of the car I looked at Ethan, and he gave me his signature smirk and said to me "Show them the new Dahlia Reed, the one that doesn't take s**t from anyone, the one that became beta of one of the most powerful packs."
I looked at him and gave him a wicked smile, "Let's get this s**t show on the road", I said.
We walked as a group to the main office towards the alpha's room. I looked around as we were walking and not much had changed while I was gone. Some of the parts around the pack have been renovated. Besides that, my old pack looked almost the same.
Although Ethan reassured me that my parents would understand my sudden departure, deep down I was still worried about their reaction. I was always their little girl and I had left without giving them a face-to-face explanation of why I had left.
Once we reached the office, I buried my feelings and put on my neutral face for my ex-mate and old pack and left without giving them a face-to-face explanation of why I had left.
Once we reached the office, I buried my feelings and put on my neutral face for my ex-mate and old pack mates. I gave myself a quick pep talk before we entered the room.
Everyone in the office had stopped what they had been doing, and my warriors moved to the side so Ethan and I could enter the room. I looked straight forward and saw my ex-mate with a bewildered expression on his face.
Taking advantage of his shock, I let myself quickly study how he looked now. He still had his brunette hair, but now it was cut short, unlike the boy-band cut he had in high school. Raid’s face was still chiseled and a five-o'clock shadow had grown on his face. He still looked almost the same as two years ago but a bit older.
Moving my attention from him, I looked at the other people in the room. Raid’s two best friends, Jason and Maddox, were now the beta and gamma of my old pack and Axel's dad, the old alpha Saxon, was also in the room, all staring at me.
Raid finally snapped out of his shocked stare and slowly asked "Dahlia"
I smirked and looked at him. "The one and only."
After I revealed the big revelation of my identity, everyone from my old pack continued to stare at me until the old alpha, Saxonbroke the silence.
He sneered and asked me "What the hell are you doing back here?"
I gave out a little giggle and said "Oh little old me is here to save your pack that you all couldn't protect."
"What the f**k are you talking about Dahlia?" Rais asked me after he finally snapped out of his gaze.
"I am the beta of the Reamun pack dumbass.
My pack and I are here to help with your rogue situation" I said, pointing towards Ethan and the warriors.
"You are the beta, yeah, and I am the f*****g alpha king.
You're lying, you are still as weak as before you left" Raid said.
Even though I had worked hard on letting the words of others get to me, Raid was still the reason why I worked so hard. I wanted to prove my strength to him and not the weak sixteen-year-old
You're lying, you are still as weak as before you left" Raid said.
Even though I had worked hard on letting the words of others get to me, Raid was still the reason why I worked so hard. I wanted to prove my strength to him and not the weak sixteen-year-old girl I was.
I quickly recovered from his words and replaced my amused face with my dark one.
In a split second, I had the bastard pinned against the wall of his office.
I darkly whispered in his ear and said "Don't forget who's got the upper hand. It's my pack that is helping you, not the other way around. The warrior pack that I am the beta of versus the weak alpha position you hold. Disrespect me again, I will make sure to snap your neck like a twig.
Quickly as the darkness crept into me, the quicker it went away and back with my amused expression.
When I turned back to go to my spot, Ethan was smirking widely while the Reamun warriors did not look surprised at my actions.
I turned back around and said "Now that that's settled, can one of you show us our living arrangements? Tomorrow we will go over the logistics of keeping the rogues out of the pack."
The Dark Sun members had a split second of fright before pulling themselves together to look like they weren't afraid of my previous actions.
They were surprised that the meek little girl was gone and was replaced by the woman I am today.
Jason stepped up and said, "Follow me."
Without saying another word, I left the room with my pack following behind. Jaxon led us to the cabins on the far east side, right next to the training grounds.
Our pack was left with three cabins, so I split the girl and boy warriors up into two separate cabins and Ethan and I took the last cabin for ourselves.
Throughout my time in the Reamun pack, I could heavily rely on both Harry and Ethan to be there for me. Ethan and I had gotten close over the two years while training, given that we were both leading the lessons back home. The two of them were like my brothers and, although Luke and I weren't as close, I could always count on him to have my back.
Before we had to report for lunch, the nine of us spent the following afternoon unpacking our things and getting settled in our living spaces.
Finally, it was time for us to go to the dining hall for lunch.
On the walk there I was contemplating the many scenarios that could happen when I saw my parents and friends for the first time in two years.
Once we reached the dining hall, all eyes turned on us as we walked in.
The pack realized who I was and started to gossip with their friends and families while continuing to stare at me. Ignoring them, I scanned the room for my parents. When I finally set my eyes on them, they were staring at me with shocked expressions. Indicating to the pack to follow me, we made our way to my parents.
When I finally stopped in front of their table, my mom breathed out "Dahlia?"
I looked at them and finally replied "Yes."
Without a second thought, they jumped out of their seats and came to enfold me in a hug.
I started to explain my disappearance, but my dad shushed me and said "Later," and continued to hug me tight.
The three of us stood in our embrace for a while before deciding to get some privacy. Ethan followed my family and me outside while the warriors stayed to eat.
Mom turned her head towards Ethan and asked
"Who is this?"
I replied, "This is Ethan, the head warrior of the Midnight Pack and also a close friend of mine."
Dad looked shocked and asked, "The Reamun Pack, as in the warrior pack that helps others?"
I nodded at him and said, "Yeah, my friend Harry is the alpha, and I am the beta of the pack."
Both my parents were shell-shocked upon finding out.
I was the beta of the pack.
Once the shock wore off, they looked at me and Mom said "Of course you are my strong girl."
I started to say "I am sorry for leaving but..." interrupting me, Dad said, "We understand the reason you left”.
Not understanding what they meant, my dad quickly explained, "Once you left Alpha, Raid revealed the information of you being his mate and being too weak to be the Luna of the pack". Dad snarled in anger.
"It was for the best. I would rather be without someone who isn't going to treat me as an equal than with him" I replied.
My parents nodded in understanding and I finally asked what was bothering me the entire day.
"Has Raid taken another mate?" I asked my parents.
They looked at me hesitantly and said "Yes."
I nodded to myself, not being that surprised that the asshole took a chosen mate to replace me.
"Who?" I asked. They once again looked at each other and Dad hesitantly answered "Lilith."
That snitch.
