The magic inside us

    "Shh... It's okay Rikka." Her mother mumbles stroking her hair.  This just made Rikka cry harder. Her father continued to scream and shout, slurring his words.  Her mother kissed her forehead saying, "Go on to bed, sweetie." Her mother got up and whispered to Rikka's brother, "Go make sure she doesn't come out of her room, She shouldn't have to see him like this."  Her brother just nodded, picked up Rikka, and left.  He then closed the bedroom door behind them and put Rikka on her bed.  "I'm sorry that you had to see that Rikka..." her brother mumbled.  Rikka wiped her tears and replied softly, "I-it's okay n-noodle..." Rikka said, her voice cracking.   Her brother just smiled sadly and hugged her. Rikka looked up and stared since lights were flashing through the window. It was the police! Rikka sat there watching wide-eyed as she watched her father get arrested. She fell asleep there with her brother watching over her.  Rikka's mother came in shortly after she laid down to check on her.  She said, "Nikko, thank you for watching her. Your father… he was using magic. I know it sounds like a fantasy, but magic is real. He just went berserk when he activated, we can't tell Rikka or else… her powers might develop."  Little did she know Rikka was indeed awake at the time.
