Chapter 4: Angel or Mate?

(Lucas POV)

“F*ck! I cursed under my breath when I opened my swollen eyelids. It seems like I woke up from a coma instead of sleeping. My head was dizzy, and I blinked a few times to see the person who was present just a few feet away from me. I could see her packing a bag and preparing to leave. I wanted to call her and know about her, but it felt like someone shoved a fistful of sand into my mouth. I took a deep breath and inhaled an alluring scent. A deep growl reverberated in my chest, and it was enough to tell me that the female who had left just a few minutes ago was none other than my mate.

"F*ck! Is she an angel? No! My mate is better than an angel," I thought with a smile.

I tried to call her again, but failed. A deep ache filled my heart when I got a glimpse of her red hair and retreating silhouette. I waited so many years for my mate, and when she was just a few feet away from me, I failed to even call her. My whole body was aching like hell, like a truck had bulldozed over me.

I took a deep breath to fill my lungs with her alluring scent of jasmine mixed with herbs and something unique. It made me gather all my strength to send a signal to my trusted friend. After a few seconds, I was out cold again, because I had drained all my strength in sending that signal.

I woke up later that night and moved my body a bit. With all the silver in my bloodstream, it felt like a chore to move my limbs simply.

“F*cking rogues! I will kill them with my bare hands if I spot them next time near my pack,” I thought, and tried to call my wolf, but he whimpered in response. I slowly touched my bandages, and they were still tight and clean, which means my mate was changing them regularly. A smile crept onto my lips with the thought of my mate, and I mustered all my strength to drag my aching body to a sitting position, so I could see the face of my mate tomorrow. I glanced at the sky, which started turning light blue, which means that in just a few hours, I will see the beautiful face of my mate, and I swear to God, I will cherish her for the rest of my life.

I closed my eyes and all the scenes of that night started playing in my mind like a slideshow.

“I am going on patrol,” I informed my father, and a frown appeared on his face.

“As the Alpha of the Shadow pack, you should be in your office, Lucas,” He replied.

“Father! This pack is mine, and I like to check everything personally. I don’t want to compromise on the security. My people love me and trust me with their lives, so It is my duty to fulfill their expectations,” I answered, and he pressed his lips in a thin line.

My father and I never agreed on this point from the start. As an Alpha, he always ruled with fear and treated his people like commoners, but for this strategy was unacceptable.

By the time I took charge of this pack, I started treating my people like my own family and started integrating love in their hearts for their Alpha, instead of fear. My father never approved of my strategy, but he couldn’t do anything because he was no longer in charge of this pack.

I quickly changed my clothes and headed towards the southern borders from where I had to start my night patrol.

It was all normal when I heard the sound of footsteps behind me. I alerted the soldiers and took a defensive stance when four rogues jumped forward to attack me. I was all ready to take them down when ten more emerged from the forest. It wasn’t normal for rogues to attack in such a large group, but my wolf was capable enough to fight them until my soldiers found me. I was fighting them all fine when I felt a prick on my neck. I turned in time to see one of the soldiers with an injection in his hand.

“Your father was right, Lucas! You were not capable of handling this pack from the start.” Judah said, and I fell on my knees. I tried to move my body, but it seemed like someone pressed the pause button for my body. My eyes were open, and I could see all their faces and heard their mocking and taunting, but couldn’t move a single finger of my hand.

“You know what? I waited for a few years for this perfect moment, but your f*cking loyal soldiers didn’t leave you alone for a second but look… Today, the moon goddess gave me a perfect moment to hunt you down because she also knows that you are an incapable alpha. I tried to move my arm to land a punch on that ungrateful f*cker but failed.

“Tsk, tsk, tsk! I know you want to murder, but you can’t because I didn’t give you the witch’s spell but also a secret potion, which made you a frozen puppet for us. He showed me the silver knife before stabbing me in my stomach. A silent ‘Omph’ left my lips, but other than that, I was completely frozen in my place. They laughed like crazy hyenas before unleashing their anger on me. I fell to the ground with a loud thud and closed my eyes when the pain became too much and my head became dizzy with all the blood loss. They thought I died, so they turned away from me.

“Threw him in the river and let’s share this sad story with his father. How some wild rogues killed his precious son… Too bad, so sad,” Judah said and all of them laughed at my miserable situation. Judah joined our pack’s academy a few years ago, but he was a nerd. One days some students were bullying him, so I intervened and saved him. He became a part of our group that day and he proved himself as a loyal friend despite being a nerd. I had never thought that he would turn to be a snake one day.

Two soldiers were dragging my body towards the border, but before they could throw me in the river, My friends came with the pack soldiers, so they left me there and ran away like scared puppies.

A grunt left my lips when I tried to move my body, I opened my eyes to see clearly the location, and my breath got stuck in my throat when I realized those f*ckers left me in the neighboring pack’s territory. If someone spots me here, they will not waste a second before killing me for crossing their boundary without permission. I tried to move my body even an inch but failed. I closed my eyes and prepared myself to embrace my fate. I tried to send a signal to my friend again and again, but that damned potion f*cked with my mind-link and wolf strength too, so I decided to accept my fate as it is.

“Alpha! Are you okay?" I heard My right-hand man, Jeremy’s voice, and snapped open my eyes.

“Y-yes! I am okay now,” I stood up with the support of a wall, and he became worried after witnessing my situation.

“Who did this to you, Alpha?” He asked, and i told him about everything that happened to me on that day.

“Don’t worry, Alpha! He got arrested for treason, and your father released the order to kill him already along with his loyal guard, who were betraying the pack,” I nodded, but then I saw a frown on his face.

“And? You are hiding something from me,” I guessed, and he finally told me everything that happened in my absence.

“F*ck! Let’s go to the Blue Moon Pack then. Let’s see if we can do something,” I answered, and he looked at my wounds.

“Don’t worry! My wounds are almost healed now,” I assured him when longing to see my mate made my heart heavy, but I pushed that thought aside. I will come back for her and put a ring on her finger along with my mark. The thought of marking her calmed my mind, and we headed towards the pack house of The Blue Moon Pack.
