Unexpected

That same night, Claire and Alex stayed outside, still shocked about the death of Emily and Ryan. They sat on a bench, staring out at the dark water, trying to process what had just happened. "I just can't believe it," Claire said, shaking her head. "They were so happy, so in love. What could have happened?" Alex sighed. "I don't know, but I'm sure the police will investigate and find out." As they talked, other people started to gather around, discussing the incident in hushed tones. Some of them approached Claire and Alex, asking questions. "Excuse me, were you two friends with the couple?" one woman asked. Claire nodded. "We met them at the bar earlier tonight. They seemed like a lovely couple." The woman's eyes widened. "Oh, I saw them at dinner. They were so happy and smiling. This is just terrible." Another man approached them. "Did you notice anything suspicious earlier tonight? Anything that might have seemed off?" Alex shook his head. "No, nothing. We just talked to them for a bit and then went our separate ways." Claire added, "But I did notice a man staring at us earlier. I don't know if it's relevant, but it seemed weird at the time." The man nodded, taking out a notebook and jotting down some notes. "That's interesting. We'll definitely look into it." As the questions continued, Alex started to act sleepy. "Babe, let's go to bed," he said, yawning. "I'm feeling tired and sleepy." But Claire refused. "I'm not feeling sleepy, not anytime soon. I would just stay here and think. How would I even sleep after what just happened?" Alex looked at her concerned. "But Claire, you need to rest. It's been a long day and-" "I'll rest later," Claire cut him off. "Right now, I just need to process everything. You go ahead and go to bed if you're tired. I'll stay here for a bit." Alex hesitated, then nodded and stood up. "Okay, but be careful, okay? And don't stay up too late." Claire nodded, watching as Alex walked away. She sat back down on the bench, lost in thought, trying to make sense of the tragedy that had just occurred. As she sat there, she couldn't shake off the feeling that something was off. The death of Emily and Ryan seemed so sudden, so unexpected. And what about the man who had been staring at them earlier? Was he involved somehow? Claire's mind was racing with questions, and she knew she wouldn't be able to sleep until she got some answers. As Claire sat on the bench, lost in thought, she suddenly started to feel cold. The night air was crisp and chilly, and she realized she had left her coat in the room. She stood up and decided to go back to the cabin to grab it. As she walked into the room, she expected to see Alex sleeping or watching TV. But what she saw instead made her heart sink. Alex was standing in front of the bed, his arms around another woman. They were kissing, and Claire could see the passion and intensity in their embrace. Claire felt like she had been punched in the gut. She couldn't breathe, couldn't think. All she could do was stand there, frozen in shock and horror. The woman, a blonde with a smug smile, looked up and caught Claire's eye. For a moment, they just stared at each other, the tension between them palpable. Then, Alex turned around, his eyes locking onto Claire's. He looked guilty, ashamed, and scared all at once. "Claire, I..." he started, but she cut him off. "Don't," she said, her voice cold and hard. "Just don't." Claire turned and walked away, leaving Alex and his mistress behind. She didn't know where she was going, she just knew she had to get out of there. As she walked, she felt tears pricking at the corners of her eyes. She was heartbroken, humiliated, and angry all at once. How could Alex do this to her? How could he cheat on her, especially after what they had just experienced with Emily and Ryan's death? Claire didn't know what the future held, but she knew one thing for sure she was done with Alex. As she walked out, tears streaming down her face, a man tried to stop her, "Hey miss, hey miss." When she finally stopped, still trying to process the shock and heartbreak, he said, "Hi, my name is Lucas." she recognised him,he was the same man who was staring at her earlier, she knew she need to get away from him. "Wow, congratulations on your name," Claire replied, her voice dripping with sarcasm. She tried to sound calm, but inside, she was seething with anxiety. Lucas laughed, his eyes crinkling at the corners. "I'll take that as a compliment," he said, his voice low and smooth. Claire rolled her eyes and turned to leave, walking quickly towards the promenade deck. She didn't know why she had chosen to go there, but she just wanted to get away from Lucas and his unsettling presence. Suddenly, she heard footsteps behind her. Claire's heart skipped a beat as she realized that she was being followed. She didn't dare look back, fearing what she might see. Instead, she kept running, her feet pounding the ground in a desperate bid for freedom. As she walked, the darkness of the promenade deck seemed to close in around her. The ship's railings loomed above her, casting long, ominous shadows on the water below. Claire's heart was racing, and she could feel her breath coming in short gasps. "I'm gone," she said to herself, trying to reassure herself that she had made the right decision. But as she walked further along the promenade deck, she realized that it was probably a bad idea. The deck was deserted, and the only sound was the creaking of the ship's hull beneath her feet. "This is probably the way he killed the innocent couples," Claire thought, her mind racing with worst-case scenarios. She was starting to get really scared, and her nervous habit of biting her fingers was kicking in. She bit down on her index finger, the pain a distraction from the fear that was building inside her. But as she walked, the fear only grew, until she was almost running along the promenade deck, desperate to find a way back to the safety of the ship's interior.
