Mama Kana

Chapter 9

“Kana, can I invite you to have dinner at my house? We have a little celebration and I thought of inviting you.” Mew tried his luck.

Obviously, Mew just made up a story about the celebration for Kana not to be suspicious.

He’s inviting Kana to have dinner at his place because his friends want to meet Kana-his son’s Mama Kana. But he won’t say it to Kana.

“Uhh, okay? I won’t have anything to do anyway. What time is it?”

‘Yes.’ Mew mentally shouted in joy.

“I’ll just fetch you at six. You can invite your friends.”

“Really?” Kana asked.

“Of course. The more the merrier. Jacob would be thrilled to know that you’re coming. But I won’t tell him so he will be surprised.”

“I like that,” Kana said while smiling. He can imagine Jacob’s surprised reaction.

‘Me? You like me?’ Mew’s mind continued interrupting.

“So I’ll pick you up and your friends at six. We’ll go now. We still need to prepare for the dinner.” Mew said and called Jacob to say goodbye to his Mama Kana.

Jacob ran in their direction and hugged his Mama Kana’s thighs because that’s all he could reach.

“Mama Kana, we’ll go now. I love you,” Jacob said to him with a very sweet boy. He always remembers to say ‘I love you’ to his Mama Kana.

“I love you, too, my baby. I’ll see you tomorrow,” Kana said. He said tomorrow because Jacob isn’t aware that his Mama Kana will go to their house for dinner. They will surprise Jacob.

“Bye, Kana. Let’s go, Jacob,” Mew holds Jacob’s hand and they walked towards the direction of the parking space.

After all of his students are fetched by their parents, Kana walked to Caleb and Adriel’s classroom to inform them about the dinner at Mew’s house.

They only have a total of three classrooms. One for nursery, kinder and preparatory. They have the same shifts but they barely saw each other because they’re all busy with their students.

Caleb is already packing his bag when he knocked on the classroom door.

“Kana. What are you doing here?” Caleb walked in his direction with his bag and asked him.

“I just want to invite you for dinner at Mew’s house because they have a small celebration. He invited me and he said that I can also bring my friends,” Kana said and helped Caleb to lock all the windows and doors.

“He invited you on a date?” Caleb received a smack on his head.

“What date are you talking about? It’s not a date. You’re not listening, are you?”

“I don’t have the right to tease you now? That hurts. I think my nape has some purple marks from your hand.”

“That’s what you get for always teasing me. So you’re in?” Kana asked Caleb.

“All right. I’ll go with you. Are you going to invite Adriel?” Caleb asked.

“Yes. Come on. We’ll invite Adriel and we’re going to buy gifts.”

They walked towards Adriel’s classroom and Adriel is already locking the doors and windows.

“Adriel, you want to join us for dinner at Mew’s house. And it’s not a date, okay? They have a celebration and he invited me. He said that I can bring my friends.” Kana said, and the words not date was emphasized.

“If they have many foods, then I’m going,” Adriel answered.

“Food is always on your mind. Of course, they have many foods there,” Caleb answered.

“Then I’m going.”

“All right. We need to buy gifts for them. We can’t go to someone’s house with no gifts,” Kana said and they walked towards the parking area to ride on Adriel’s car.

When they arrived at the mall, they have a hard time thinking of what to buy for the Peterson family so they decided to buy toys for Jacob first.

He bought stuffed toys for Jacob because he knows that Jacob will like them. Caleb bought a toy soldier and Adriel bought a toy gun.

Kana decided to buy a set of lucky bracelets for the Peterson family because he can’t think about other gifts. He knows that they already have all the things that they need.

He just said to Caleb and Adriel that they don’t need to buy gifts because what he bought is already enough so the two only have Jacob’s toys.

“I think we’re already done. Mew will fetch us at six.” Kana informed them.

“We’re going to wait at your house. But first, let’s go to our house to change clothes,” Adriel said.

Adriel drive to his house first and changed his clothes then they go to Caleb’s house.

At exactly six, Mew came and fetched him. He even opened the passenger door for Kana and Kana saw the judgemental stares of Caleb and Adriel.

Adriel even imitated Mew’s action and opened the backseat for Caleb who’s grinning like an i***t. Kana can feel his face turning red and he also saw Mew smiling. Kana reminded himself to give a smack to Caleb and Adriel’s head later.

When they arrived at Mew’s house, Mew signaled Kana to hide on the back to surprise Jacob. Mew walked in first, followed by Adriel and Caleb, and lastly, Kana.

They walked to the dining room where Kana saw 8 persons including Jacob who’s talking to his Grandma. And the others are talking with each other.

“Jacob, look who’s with Dada,” Mew said to his son and Jacob looked in his direction.

Jacob runs to them when he saw his Mama Kana smiling at him. He hugged Kana’s things and Kana is softly squushing Jacob’s cheeks and Mew found it so endearing. Not just Mew but all of the people in the room who witnessed the scene.

“I have a gift for you, Jacob,” Kana said while kneeling to have the same level as Jacob and he showed him the stuffed toys he bought in the store.

“I love it, Mama Kana! Thank you very much,” Jacob kissed his Mama Kana all over his whole face. Kana giggled and kissed Jacob’s forehead.

“Your son is very happy with him, my son. I can see that he loves him to be that close to him,” Mew’s dad said to him.

Jacob is very hard to befriend. He won’t trust you that easily so it’s a surprise for the whole family and even to Mew’s friends that Jacob is very open to Kana.

Jacob isn’t that close to them at first but with Kana, Jacob spends not even a year with him but Jacob really adores him and that’s why they have a very big smile on their faces.

They can see that Jacob loves his Mama Kana and Kana also loves Jacob. It warms their heart to see that Kana treats Jacob like his son and Jacob saw Kana as a mother of him.

“Everyone, this is Kana Kana Martinez. The teacher and Mama Kana of Jacob.”
