Chapter 1: The Tale
Third person As the moon shines through the clouds, the wind was so cold that added terrors to the family of fishermen that was in the middle of the ocean. They need to have many fishes to sell in the market early morning, they couldn't waste any time. They were about to go home when Andres, a 17-year-old boy broke the silence that he can't take and asked a question. "Are we lost?" he asked out of curiosity. "Is that a joke?" his older brother, Adam said as he looked at Andres. "I think we already crossed the line." the rest of the men looked at Andres, sighing. They regret tagging him along to went fishing, he's too noisy. "Quiet" his father slapped his younger son, Andres. "Is it true? The tale? Everyone in town's talking about it, if we crossed the line, we're dead." "Andres!" his father shouted and ordered him to sit down and be quiet. Andres got scared a bit and decided to shut his mouth. "Listen carefully" Adam who was not paying attention to what Andres was babbling about went towards his younger brother and sat down beside him. He was also curious about the tale, even his father who's always tagging him along to fish never tell him about it. "The line is all we have, whatever happens, no one shall go beyond it." their father said with a low voice. "Whatever tales you heard from everyone in town, only fishermen and the chief knew what's the real story. The first chief of the town made the deal with a siren to have a border, the line. It was hundred years ago but It's-" he did not finish what he was gonna say because an old man who was sitting across from them cut him off. "Your father is scared, let me tell the true story." unlike his father, the voice of the old man does not even startle or had a hint of fear. "Grandfather?" "Siren" their grandfather looked at them intently as he said the word.  Andres knew a bit of the story, the fishers have been fewer at their town, not because of poverty but because the rumors said that one night, they will go fishing but will never come back. He also knew a thing about sirens, they are evil creatures that lured men because of their angelic singing voices and beautiful faces but beneath that, they are truly evil. "One night, a fisherman and his son went fishing, his wife can't be treated in our town because of her severe illness. The fisherman decided to work hard on fishing, he planned to go to the town on the west, they have proper medicines there but it's too expensive, he'll do anything for his wife, you see. He went far the ocean. That's when he saw the sirens. He may love his wife truly that he has crossed the line for her but a siren's evil power made him go mad. He succumbed as he looked at an angelic face with an angelic voice." they leaned closer towards their grandfather as they listen carefully to what he was saying. "However fangs of the siren became visible, he was tempted, she took him towards the depths of the ocean. And his son? They ignored him and left, a miracle, yes." "Hmm why would the sirens do that? Are they fool? I thought they're evil? Why would they leave their prey?" Andres curiously asked. "boy, they are evil. Whatever-" his grandfather suddenly stopped talking as he looked behind Andres. Few seconds have passed with fear and silence as Andres decided to look behind him. He almost screamed when he saw a woman, her eyes looking innocently at him. A woman with her hair, shining, she looked like a Goddess. "S-siren" Andres was startled as he saw her tail. All these years, he got curious about it, he got excited about the tale. But the time came when a siren appeared in front of him, he got scared. The siren went close to their boat while Andres couldn't even move at the sight he is seeing. "A-andres! Step back! What is happening? I have been a fisherman all my life, I know we didn't even cross the line." his father managed talked yet Andres couldn't move, he's tempted, he felt as if he saw his true love, especially when the siren smiled at him. "My heart is pierced by Cupid I disdain all glittering gold There is nothing can console me But my jolly sailor bold" The young man, Andres could not take his eyes off the siren, her voice is like the finest voice in the world. Added with her perfect heart-shaped face and her smile, no one can't resist this kind of beauty. Little did they know, the rest of the sirens have surrounded their boat, smiling at them. "Come all you pretty fair maids Whoever you may be Who love a jolly sailor bold That plows the raging sea" As she sang those words, her fellows blended in with her voice that it's like a voice of angel when you heard it. Andres didn't want to take his eyes off the beautiful woman when she held his face while singing. "My heart is pierced by Cupid I disdain all glittering gold There is nothing that console me But my jolly sailor bold" Even his older brother looked intently at a siren. His father did not know what he's gonna do, he can't let his sons die, even the old man is scared at the moment. "My heart is pierced by Cupid I disdain all glittering gold There is nothing that console me But my jolly sailor bold" Andres' face unconsciously bends down to the siren's face, she held his face and guided his face to went to the water. As his face went to the water, his eyes widened when the sea creature's face changed. The angelic face was now gone and turned into evil. Her eyes changed shape like a snake and her fangs showed. Andres woke up from what's happening to him and immediately took a sword he made behind the blanket. It was the sword he first made, Andres may not have a talent for fishing or farming but he is extremely good at being a blacksmith. "Ah!" his older brother, Adam screamed as the wood that he was stepping on slipped, it was now damaged because of a siren that was dragging his foot. But his father helped him, that's why he escaped. On the other hand, huge water came towards them, they did not what to do when the water caused their fire as their light to die. "Rumor says a siren can manipulate water, so it's true." the old man came into his senses as he said those words. A hand grabbed their father's foot just like what a siren did to Adam but because of his strength, he got escaped. Andres chuckled at what he saw, he realized he should not be scared. "We can survive, don't-" a smiling face of his father disappeared when a siren jumped and dragged him. He went under the water with a shocked face. "Father!" Andres got scared again and shouted his father's name as he saw the siren took his father from him. He decided to jump to help his father but his brother stopped him. Andres stood, not doing anything. Fear has conquered him, the voice of another siren is still there, the one who almost killed his brother earlier. That siren is still singing but with a low voice behind him, he has a sword, but why? Why can't he move? He can kill them, what is he doing? His father is now gone, but why is he just standing there? The voice became louder, which means she's near. She'll kill him but his feet can't move. "Andres!" his brother shouted his name and pushed him, making his older brother the victim. The siren grabbed his brother into the ocean as Andres stood there, not doing anything because of fear. "Boy" his grandfather called him, he looked at him. But his fear is still there. He rushed towards him, their boat was nearly a boat, almost all of it is gone. He grabbed his grandfather's hand when a siren grabbed the old man's neck. The old man smiled and gave him a book before he was taken away by the siren. "Take it, give it to someone you love, farewell Andres." he kneeled, not taking what he had seen any longer. What will he do now? He's all alone and he's sure that his fate will become like them too. What's the point of the book when he knew it within himself that he'll be taken too. In the middle of his cries, the boat wrecked one by one. What's he gonna do now? He's losing hope. He suddenly looked at the siren who sang for him, she's still singing and looking at him from afar. He opened his eyes, his mind changed, he can survive. He can do it, whatever happens, he'll survive. The town needs to know that the line is no longer safe, sirens crossed it, they should be killed. The line symbolized hope. It might be a tale but the border was built hundred years ago as the first chief made a deal with a siren to not crossed it, yet they failed. They broke the deal, this means war. "I have been saved, I don't have time to think or mourn," he said but little by little, his hope was disappearing as the sirens went towards him. With a sword in his hand, he waved it, his life depends on it. It was his only hope. But a mere sword can't kill them, they have powers, they're in the water, their territory. He decided to close his eyes as the last hope fell from his hand. But a sound made him open his eyes and catch the sword that he was about to lose. That's the sound of a bomb, he almost cried when the water became one with fire. He heard the shriek of sirens as they left him. He almost cried when he saw a man standing on a boat going towards him, his eyes only fixed towards the sirens escaping for their lives as he threw another bomb. A new hope has appeared in front of him, despite his tears rolling down his cheeks, he smiled at his friend who saved him. "Sergio"
