The Letter from 1945

EPISODE 5: The Old Station

Eleanor traveled to the abandoned train station.

The building had been closed for decades.

She found the platform where Thomas was supposed to meet Clara.

Near an old bench, she noticed initials carved into the wood.

Beneath them was a date.

November 3, 1945.

Eleanor touched the carving.

She imagined Clara standing there.

Waiting.

Watching every arriving train.

Hoping to see Thomas.

Then Eleanor noticed something beneath the bench.

A rusted metal box.

Inside was a photograph.

Thomas and Clara were standing together.

On the back was a message:

If I don't return, meet me here.

Eleanor whispered:

"But you did return."

Then she heard footsteps behind her.

Someone else was standing on the platform.

Eleanor turned.

An elderly man stood several feet away.

"Who are you?"

The man looked at the photograph.

"My name is Arthur."

"Do you know Thomas?"

Arthur nodded.

"I knew him."

"What happened to him?"

Arthur's eyes filled with sadness.

"Thomas came home."

"I know."

"But he never made it to the station."

"Who stopped him?"

Arthur looked at Eleanor.

"Your grandfather."

She froze.

"Why?"

"Because William believed Thomas was going to destroy the family."

"How?"

Arthur shook his head.

"That's something you need to discover yourself."

He handed her a small envelope.

"Thomas asked me to keep this."

Eleanor opened it.

Inside was one final message.

Clara, if you're reading this, I am alive.
