Chapter 3

I took my phone to research where Hollywood Boulevard was. It wasn't far from where I was so I had to stroll. I looked around to see if anyone noticed how confused I was, and then I continued walking. Not quite long, I was standing right in front of Denest Bank. It was an eleven-story building, it was like nothing I have ever seen. It was structured with glass. "Wow!!!" I exclaimed. I stood there motionless with my mouth wide open and my hands placed restfully on my waist. I couldn't seem to gather the courage to go in, looking at how I dressed. "Mteeeew" I chuckled, "Who cares?" I shoved my hair behind my ear and breathed out. I walked fearfully into the building, not even sure where to go. I walked up to the bank teller. "Please am looking for the CEO, Williams Ray". "Ma do you have an appointment with him?" she asked me. Her eyes were fixed on my clothes. "yes…no, I mean yes" I was quivering. I handed the card he gave me over to her. She looked at me and went back to the card. " Ma what's your name" "Mia" I replied instantly. " Ma, please wait a minute," she said to me as she made a call. "You can see him now on the seventh floor, take the elevator," she said. I wasn't sure where she was directing me but I had to meet Williams Ray at all cost. "Thank you, " I said smiling as I led the way to the elevator. In less than a minute I was standing right outside the elevator on the seventh floor. I stood there pondering if I should go left or right, till I saw a man coming my way. I stopped him. " Good morning please, where is the CEO's office?" I asked in fixedness. " Just the first door by your left," he said pointing to the left. He looked at me and left. I was standing right outside the office with my eyes closed. I was praying my last prayer before entering the lion's den. I held the door handle and immediately the incident of how I turned him down that night flashed my head. I felt cold. I knocked twice and a base voice replied from inside " Come in ". I slowly opened the door, while my other hand was placed on my chest. I entered the office. My eyes widely opened, and I was speechless. The room was exquisite, from the rugged floor to the white-painted ceiling. The wall was painted light blue and my eyes spotted all the machinery one by one. My eyes seem to rest on a black electric chair. " Who is there? " I whispered to myself softly. I stretched my neck a bit to see who was seated behind the computer until the computer blocking my face was adjusted. In fright, I moved backwards. "Is him" I said, nodding my head. " Who are you and how may I help you?" he looked up at me, his face glared, then he focused back on his computer. "Mia, and I am that girl you… "I know," he added, looking straight into my eyes. " I asked again how may I help you". I was confused. His attitude seemed different from the person I meet that night, first, he wanted me for dinner and now his being so serious with me. " what's wrong with him? " I asked in my mind, rolling my eyes away from him. He is fierce, despite having the same charming face, emerald eyes and seductive lips. " I… I.. I… I want to ask if you are Williams" I said stammering. "Why?" he asked, now his hands were positioned on the table looking interested. He sat up waiting to hear my speech. I folded my hands thinking of what to say next. He was still looking at me with an awkward look on his face. I felt like disappearing from the room, I cleaned the drop of sweat dripping down my face. He gave me an evil smirk and coughed. Then I spoke up " Well, I am here on behalf of my uncle. "Who is your uncle? " he broke in. " He is Mr Clenton, hm… one of your clients who has been owing your bank for some time now". "He is owing or has refused to pay" he stood up from his chair and was walking step by step closer to me. I swallowed a heavy drool and exhaled slowly. He was standing right in front of me fearlessly. He was so close that with fear I held my breath tightly and my eyes were slightly opened. "Has he given you the money to give to me? " he asked with his eyes not blinking even for a second, he was going to devour me. "No," I said, trembling. "Then leave," he said furiously and turned his back. I felt embarrassed at the same time helpless. For my family, I had to be strong. " My uncle and my aunt have tried their best. This is the only way that I can assist them. "I am ready to do anything, please, " I said in a sad tone. He veered around and watched my acting. "Anything? " he asked eagerly. " Yes," I replied, looking straight into his eyes. " What worst could probably happen, " I thought in my mind. "You will have to serve me, then I will relieve your uncle of his debts," he said as he played with his pen on the table. He thought this was a joke. I just stood puzzled. " What type of service," I asked and rolled my eyes. He went back to his seat and slanted back on his chair with his leg crossed and his eyes directly focused on me. I couldn't stand those mesmerizing gazes so I looked down. He asked if I was ready to be his assistant. I immediately lifted my face in shock. He was serious, he slowly bent his neck to the left waiting for my response. I was speechless, was this a job offer or a punishment. I wasn't sure how to respond, I only stood there in confusion. After a while, he spoke up "Considering how eager you are to help your family, I think you should really think it through and get back to me" he spoke softly for the first time. "Miss Mia if that is all you may leave" he was back to typing on his computer. I exhaled heavily and turned my back. I stoutly turned to him again "How long will that take? " I asked to confirm before considering if I should or should not. "When you are ready I will let you know if there is nothing more I will beg you to excuse me". I walked furiously to the door I exited and slammed the door hard. I left the bank in outrage without even stopping to look back.
