Chapter Five Ending

“Thank you.” Logan said. Bella smiled. “Thank you, miss.” Bella said softly. “Thank you.” She said then left. “Stacey is the one that stole my birthday necklace from my mother. It was a gold locket with a picture of me as a baby in it and a family portrait on the other side. Behind the photo, has my name engraved in it. I was named after my evil grandmother. She loves Stacey because Stacey is just like her.” Bella started to explain more. Logan stayed quiet as they sat on the floor and ate. “Isabella, my grandmother, tossed her own daughter in law aside. To welcome her son’s mistress. And now that he’s having the son he always wanted. He doesn’t want anything to do with me. But he still wants to sell everything of my mothers. The cabin is in my name. It was put in my name, before she died. My mother had changed the will. Everything was left to me. He doesn’t know she is dead. But Stacey heard the coach say she isn’t around anymore. So, now it’s only a matter of time. I am only worried that they will destroy the place before I can get the rest of her valuable things out.” Bella said. “You can use a room here to store everything.” Logan said. “No, that’s asking too much. And if we have a falling out, you might lash out. I can’t risk it. Though they look like nothing. Each blanket, each pillow. Each book. It’s all a memory. A moment of the good and the bad times. I can’t part with them for too long.” Bella said. She was crying again. Unaware that Matt came out to check up on them and heard everything. He was still listening in. “If Stacey knows, how long until you think she tells your dad?” Logan asked. “I don’t know. You saw how they broke in earlier. He will probably try later tonight or tomorrow while I am at school.” Bella said. “Bella, I used to watch movies about bad people. People that you could hire to dispose of people. Contract killers, hitmen. Would you ever consider them, just to live peacefully?” Logan asked. “No. I’ve seen the movies. I’ve seen cop shows. Watched crime documentaries with my mother, it was her favourite thing. And I can honestly say, I don’t think I am comfortable with it. If they were gone. Then I’d be fully alone.” Bella said. “You have us now, you’d never be alone.” Logan said. “No.” Bella said. “You are stubborn.” Logan said. “I know.” Bella said. “Do you mind if I ask, what happened to your mother?” Logan asked. “I’m not comfortable talking about it.” Bella said. “Do you prefer Bella or Isabella?” Logan asked. “If you call me Isabella, I will throw a sharp knife at you.” Bella said. “Duly noted.” Logan said quickly. Matt chuckled quietly. Matt walked back to the table and sat down. “Everything okay?” Kieran asked. “Yes. They are just talking about her mother.” Matt said. “Is she dead yet?” Stacey asked. The table went quiet. “No, Bella’s mother is still hanging on. She is in a hospital which is why she isn’t at home. And from what I hear, her mother has finished signing documents to sell the place she was staying in. Bella gets the money and is moving into a secure and safer location.” Matt lied. Kieran looked at his dad and saw him lying, Milly noticed it but stayed quiet. They knew there must be a reason so they stayed quiet. “Daddy, is Bella mad at me?” Milly asked. “She isn’t. She’s upset because the talk about family upsets her. Her mother is very sick.” Matt said. The group of adults gasped. “After eating, please go and play for a bit while I talk to her alone with Logan.” Matt said. Milly nodded. Matt was quick to finish and Kieran noticed how he was eating the rest quickly. Matt got up and joined them in the parlour. “Heads up, I overheard you before about your mother.” Matt said. Bella looked at him and nodded. “I’m letting you know this because Stacey asked if she was alive. I said she was in a hospital which is why she isn’t at home. And that your mother is selling the place you are staying in. I figured they would stop breaking in then.” Matt whispered. “Thank you.” Bella said. “Milly heard, she’s upset. She thinks she broke your heart with the conversation.” Matt said. Bella put the last piece of her food in her mouth. Logan grabbed her plate and moved it to the dining room. Milly ran to hug Bella quickly and apologise after she saw Logan carrying Bella’s plate. “I’m so sorry Bella!” Milly cried. “Don’t be sorry.” Bella said. “I’m sorry. Don’t cry because of me again.” Milly said. “Milly, relax okay. I’m just an emotional person. I cry easily.” Bella said. Milly sat in Bella’s lap and hugged her. “Bella, could we talk in my office?” Matt asked. “Yes sir.” Bella said. “Milly, go tell Logan to meet us.” Matt said.
