Before I met you

Thinking back to that unforgettable September night, Emily lay in the darkness of her room. She never rolled up the curtains or turned on the lights. The darkness had become her solace. Ever since the tragic loss of her mother, she had lost all sense of purpose; but in the darkness, she found a strange comfort, a feeling of being invisible, of being shielded from the world's prying eyes. She sometimes wished that the accident had taken her instead of her mother, or that she had at least died with her. It would be certainly better,she thought,than living with the crushing weight of the memory;the memory of that ill- fated night. It had been almost a year since she experienced her loss, but to her, it felt like yesterday. Emily's relationship with her mother was special and somewhat uncanny. She found some things her mother did and said to be odd, and sometimes she wondered what kind of relationship they had. Was it truly a mother-daughter relationship, or did mothers and daughters always have a bond that was somehow...different? She couldn't tell. Anyways,it didn't matter now. What mattered now was that she was grieving. A mother was a mother,regardless of what she did or said...or so she thought.
