I assume Harlow got home safe. She wouldn't answer any of my txt or calls and she was nowhere to be seen in the parking lot. Once I got out there so I headed home. It was around 3:00 when I walked through my door, to find my mom and Mia sitting on the couch with soda's in their hands. "Oh there she is." My mom called out as she moved to her feet to grab my hand. Directing me towards the other couch in front of theirs. "Rachel babe your friend here just brought over your class assignments and homework you missed." Mom looked at me with a fake smile and eyes that said I had a lot of explaining to do when we were alone. "Oh well thank you Mia. You didn't have to do that." Mia rose to her feet placing her soda can on a coaster on the coffee table. "Oh don't worry about it." She turned to grab her leather jacket from its resting spot on the arm of the couch. Then slipped it on over her The Killers tank top. Her loose denim jeans were rolled up to her ankles to show a tattoo just above her ankle. "I didn't know you had a tattoo?" I questioned her. "Yeah it's nothing fancy just something that reminds me of my mother." she responded casually as she pulled her keys from her pocket. "It was lovely to meet you Jackie. I'll ask my mother about that lunch next week. I'm sure she will be thrilled." Mia walked around the coffee table to give my mom a hug. Afterwards she turned to me and completely disregarded my outstretched hand. Instead opting to wrap a hand around my neck and bring my lips to meet hers in a quick peck of a kiss. "I'll see you tomorrow princess." Then she turned and walked out the door. "Such a nice young lady." my mother commented, as she went to throw away Mia's soda. "Ok so care to explain to me why you skipped school?" I cringed at her tone knowing she was not going to approve of the answer I was about to tell her. "Harlow looked really down and didn't feel up to going to school. So she suggested we skip today so I am the amazing friend I am. Didn't want to leave her alone in the state she was in so I came along." mother looked like she was considering my answer for a moment. "What happened?" Her tone was softer now almost like she didn't want to scare me. "What do you mean?" I replied, "Something happened between you two didn't it?" God how do mothers do that? How can they completely understand a situation in a matter of seconds? From only a twitch of the eyebrow from their child, it should be recognized as a superpower. "We got in a fight." I stated before walking over to the couch that was formerly occupied by Mia. "Over?........." "She told me she thinks she's pregnant by her boyfriend and that she might love him." I took a deep breath to stop myself from crying at the thought that Harlow sue would become yet another statics of our generation. "Oh honey I'm sorry." She walked over to me pulling me into a hug "mom... I.... I.... Love her." My voice sounded so weak and unsure. It was strange. Up to this point in my life I was sure about two things, music and Harlow. Even If I couldn't be with her at this point in time. I always knew that one day we would be able to be together. After we both had time to explore the world outside of our small town we would come back to each other because we would realize that the world outside wasn't nearly as beautiful as the world we could create tighter. "I know baby, I know." Was all she said to me before I let go all the tears and frustration that's been building up for the past 3 years. I cried, I yelled, I punched the air, I cursed all romance movies, I vowed to punch Nicolas sparks one day, I felt my heart develop another crack in it's surface. Before finally letting my body go limp in my mother's arms "this.......this can't be love. Mom it's.....it's nothing like you and dad." She grabbed a tissue from the coffee table and began to wipe my face clean
"That's the thing about love, it never happens the same way twice."
