"I don't want you to talk to her anymore." Harlow's voice snapped me out of my trance. "Oh well.... Ok." I didn't have the strength to argue with her right now I was using all of it to try to figure out what just happened. "Come on let's go to lunch" she grabbed my wrist and pulled me towards the door.
By the time we got to the lunchroom lunch was in full swing and there was no table empty. So we took our lunch and headed outside to the beach tables. Not long after we sat down did a flock of boys come to surround Harlow. She loved it. I on the other hand quietly excused myself to go to my locker. As I approached my locker I heard voices filling the empty hallway. Ignoring them I continued on to my locker until I heard the voices clearer. "I won't settle for anything less then $1,000 red that was our deal and you know it." Mia? What was she doing? "Yeah I know but how do I know you will deliver on your promise?" There was a loud crash and a grunt. "You doubting y abilities now?" I didn't realize I completely zoned out to listen to the conversation. Until my books slipped out of my arm and to the floor with a bang that echoed down the hallway, feet shuffled, a door opened then closed. Mia appeared from around the corner at the end of the hall to jog to my side. "Hey you" "hey" I forced a Simi smile onto my face. Trying to cover up the fact that I was practically spying on her. "What are you doing out here and not eating lunch?" "Oh I had to get a few things for my next class." She looked unconvinced my answer so instead of responding she closed my locker. "Why don't we go get some real food then ey?" I nodded my head as she took my books from my arm. Transferring them to her arms before heading towards the front of the school, Mia's car was a black BMW that looked pretty new. But I wasn't a car girl "so what do you have a taste for?" Mia questioned as she fiddled with the radio. "I'm fine with whatever you want"
Here's my story sad but true
"Well would you look at that? How ironic" she turned up the volume on the station before joining in on the song.
It's about a girl that I once knew
She took my love then ran around
With every single guy in town
Ah,I should have known it from the very start
"Come on you know the lyrics join in!" I laughed at how into the song she was. Singing all out of tune and making weird hand movements "ok solo!" she held her hand up to my mouth as if it was holding a microphone.
This girl will leave me with a broken heart Now listen people what I'm telling you
A-keep away from-a runaround sue
I screamed the lyrics to match the equally as bad back up vocals provided by Mia.
I miss her lips and the smile on her face The touch of her hair and this girl's warm Embrace So if you don't wanna cry like I do
She placed our "microphone" in the middle of us for us to both belt out the next lyrics together.
A-keep away from a runaround sueAh, she likes to travel around She'll love you but she'll put you down Now people let me put you wise Sue goes out with other guys Here's the moral and story from the Guy knows I fell in love and my love still grows Ask any fool that she ever knew, they'll say Keep around from-a runaround sue
"Ok last verse! Lets bring it home!" Mia called out
She likes to travel around She'll love you but she'll put you down Now people let me put you wise Sue goes out with other guys Here's the moral and the story from the
Guy who knows I fell in love and my love still grows Ask any fool that she ever knew, they'll say Keep away from a runaround sue
By the time we pulled up to a small light pink house we both were crying through our tears. "Where are we?" I coughed out through sobs. "Why... we are at the best place for Indian food this side of the pacific darling." She unbuckled her seatbelt, slid out of her side and started for the house, while I hopped out of my side and followed suit after her. Inside different twinkly lights lit up the place, the walls were half painted and half exposed brick. The wood flooring was painted with intricate designs that looked done only by hand. "Come on I'll take you to the best spot in this whole place." Mia intertwined our fingers as she led the way through the house saying "hey" and "nice to see you too" along the way. While passing through the kitchen she picked up a variety of mini boxes. Before we came to a staircase Mia continued on up the stars until we reached a door. Painted to look like the famous "starry night". After removing a few locks on the side she pushed it open with no problem. Leading me out to a roof with lawn chairs and a fire pit. "Well come on don't just stand their take a seat." She gestured towards the chair beside her once I sat down she slid a few boxes over to me. After a few moments of silence Mia spoke.
"When beauty grows too great to bear how shall I ease me of its ache,
For beauty more than bitterness makes the heart break. Now while I watch the dreaming sea with isles like flowers against her breast,
Only one voice in all the world could give me rest." I looked at her confused and surprised. "The way you look at her. It's like a tortured want an unrequited need."
Then we sat and ate our food but there was nothing awkward about that moment instead we found
Comfort in our silence
Peace in our non-speaking
Perfection in our dead air
