SUSAN TELLS RAYLINE HER STORY

The light from the energy bulk shines very blur as if the voltage is low. Susan sits on a wooden chair, while she makes her seven-year-old daughter’s hair. She plaits all-back hairstyle and while she plaits Rayline’s hair, she keeps telling Rayline not to make the mistake she made out of desperation. Nevertheless, the little angel Rayline smiled and looked at her mother. While she gazes right into her mother’s eyes, she says, “Mummy, everything will work out for good. You have not made any mistakes. Mummy, am I a mistake?”

Rayline’s question to her mother gets her thinking deep, even as she continues talking to Rayline.

When I told him, “Bob, I didn’t want this to happen at all, I am finished! What will I tell my parent? Where do I start? How can I even face them with the news?” He was very curious to know what is happening. However, he sounded as he cares, but he never died, he just wanted to have me and keep having me to quench his selfish desire.

When I told him, he answered me and say “What is it, Susan? Can you talk to me?”

I was still silent while he asks to find out what is happening. After some minutes, I finally answer him by telling him that I am pregnant. I did that in tears, covering my eyes. I thought he will be excited, but he did not show any sign of excitement, rather, he instructed me to terminate the pregnancy. His suggestion was against my principle as a catholic. This is the reason, your father; Bob Henderson did not like you. However, I am hoping that things will change for good.

Rayline my daughter, your birth is a ray of hope to me, it is like a line holding me up from sinking deep because I lost what I treasure for deciding to keep you, my parent disowned me. You need to know that life is sometimes unfair, but fairness comes from an unfair situation, when you do not allow the unpleasant situation to weigh you down, things become pleasant in the end. I see a glorious future with you. I know with you, I will smile again. I know but cannot tell how I have to know. Susan was still talking to her daughter Rayline and advising her to hold a positive mindset against all odds.

While Susan talks to her daughter Rayline, tears drip down from her eyes and land on Rayline’s cheek. Even nature around, reacts to the surge of emotions from Susan to her daughter Rayline, as the tears drop on Rayline.

Rayline turns; looks up to her mother and say, “Mummy, everything will be fine. We will find true love. I do not care if anyone loves me. What matters to me right now, is the fact that you love me unconditionally. Mummy, you are my world and the best thing that has ever occur to me. Thank you for always being there for me. I love you, mummy.”

Susan pecks her daughter Rayline on her cheek and they both giggles at each other with a pristine smile.

“Rayline! Susan calls unto her daughter and says, “I am planning on leaving for a vacation with you, away from this place. I do not want your father to have access to me. He is only using me for his selfish interest and I am no longer comfortable with that. I do hope you would love to go on vacation with me?”

“Yes, mum, I will go anywhere with you, because I would not want to be anywhere without you”, said Rayline in response to her mother.

“I need to also tell how I meet Bob, your father”, Susan said to her daughter Rayline.

Susan narrates the story of how she meets Bob…

After graduating from the University of Oakridge, life becomes difficult and unbearable for my parent, because my Dad lost his job. My mum is only but a petty trader, who is suffering from breast cancer. My father has used all his remaining savings for the treatment of my mother. I did not want to remain a liability to my struggling parent. Therefore, I decided to leave my parent to seek greener pastures in the city of Canaan, where there are many opportunities for graduates like me. I did not realize we are in a system that you must give something to have what you want. After I had left my parent, I meet a friend of mine, who was my course mate and her name is, Lucy. Lucy was indeed a good friend to me while I was still in school and we shared almost everything. Lucy takes me in and I squat with her. In the course of searching for a job, I face many s****l harassments from Managers and Directors of companies to I attempted to submit applications. In all the offices I enter; I face harassment, especially with the people who were supposed to be in the position of giving me a job. Some of the young men give me the condition that they can only offer me a job when they have carnal knowledge of me.

“I will explain what that means my daughter”, Susan told Rayline, “I mean, the condition is, they want me to have s*x with them.” Yes, this may sound very odd to you my daughter, but I have to tell you now, because you will grow up to become a woman like you and me may likely face this challenge, and I need to prepare. On a fateful day, after much search for a job, my search was not successful. I was now thinking of starting something little, even if it is a petty business, instead of just searching for a job and not finding any. This idea sounded nice to me, but how do I start without capital? The very day I had this thought, I left one of the offices I entered along King’s Avenue in frustration. The Secretary of Management instructed me to check back. Therefore, I assumed in my heart, maybe he wants me to meet face to face with the Managing Director. Nevertheless, when I came back, he took me to see the Managing Director who is a very young handsome man. I thought I have met an angel that will come to my rescue, however, his condition remains the same with the others whom I have had the experience of them wanting to sleep with me before offering me a job. He attempts to rape me and I narrowly escape him. My frustration increases as I was now feeling as if I am under a course that spurs up men to have a lustful thought wanting to have s*x with me.

“Do you know what my little angel?” Susan said to her daughter Rayline, “I uphold a religious status that does not permit me to have s*x with a man who is not my husband. However, the world is now giving me the condition to give up that which I have preserved for a very long time. I cannot just give my virginity to a man who is not my husband. I realize how inconsiderate men have become and they will do anything to satisfy their selfish motive. I have narrowly escaped many men who are ravenous wolves, ready to devil their prey like a wild predator.”

Rayline my daughter, I do not want you to have my kind of experience in life. Nevertheless, your pregnancy made my parent disown me. However, I see you as the best thing that has happened to me, because you are my companion and my comfort.

As I was talking to you before I digress…

When I had left the vicinity of the office where the Manager almost rapes me, I was walking home to the place I squatted with my friend Lucy. Lucy loves her privacy and I was beginning to see myself as interrupting that. Lucy has a boyfriend who often visits her. When he visits, I have to excuse them, even at the time, I needed to rest. While I was trekking home, I got lost in thought, wishing God would send me a helper. Immediately, a car reverses and parked right in front of me with tinted glasses. I was afraid because I thought, someone has come to kidnap me since there have been recurring kidnapping cases in the course of this period. I was the glass wind down from the direction of the driver. It is a convertible beautiful car. When I peeped into the car, I saw a very handsome look man, he should be in his early thirty from his look, though, I am only assuming. He speaks to me out of his car without coming down says,

“Hi, Beautiful, my name is Bob”

The person in the exotic car after introducing himself to me, ask, “Are you going my direction?” and I answered, “Which direction are you going sir?” and Bob said, “You do not need to know the direction I am going, I can drop you wherever you are going, that was why I drove back after passing you. I sighted you from a distance before I drove past you and it was as if, I received a call from you. Did you call me and request for a lift in your thought?”

I replied to him, “I may not know what I did, however, I wish in my heart someone stops and give me a lift because I am already drenched in sweat as a result of the heat of the scorching sun. However, I am heading toward Queen’s Clinic Avenue.”

Besides, he said to me, “You can come into the car. Sorry, for the harsh and sunny weather, I wish I could have it changed before I meet you. Nevertheless, it is a perfect design to connect us. Nice, meeting you beautiful. However, I have not known your name.”

Moreover, I answered him, “My name is Susan”. Immediately I told him my name, I felt tingling in my heart with the impressions of butterflies, even when I tried resisting the thought, I found myself wishing, I have a man like Bob. This was how I met your dad.
