Dragon Life and the Virus
The dragon virus started off slow at first hitting smaller clans that were farther out of the way from everyone else. It always started like a human cold eventually turning into pneumonia or other lung issues. Then flu symptoms would start weakening the human half of the dragon further. Alot of the times heart issues began and eventually the dragons couldn't even shift anymore. This was the last phase of the whole horrid thing. Shortly after that the dragon soon passed away. The problem was dragons never ever got sick with anything due to high immune systems and metabolism. They could be around sick humans for days and never catch anything. Dragons also had an extra heart and two pairs of lungs, which provided them everything they needed to be as mighty as they were. Dragons where the biggest, smartest, most cunning creatures to ever be created, even though several other shifter species out numbered the dragons by hundreds sometimes thousands. They ruled over all the other shifter races. Each race had they're own form of government and how they managed they're kind, but if fights and wars were started the dragon king always stepped in to put them all back into line. Some shifters hated it, but accepted it nonetheless. No one would ever battle against a dragon and actually win. Dragons were not easily killed either. With having two hearts and two sets of lungs even if one was damaged they still had the other. They maybe weaker, but eventually heal back to perfect health. The only three ways to actually kill a dragon was through the eye to the brain, taking out both hearts, or finding a way the peirce through they're very armoured hide. No one knew exactly where the virus came from. It seemed to start out of no where and eventually was everywhere. None of the other shifter species were affected by the virus which in turn put suspicion on those with higher numbers and could even possibly be intelligent enough to make such a virus to kill off the mighty dragon shifters. No one took the blame. Many leaders from the other races were interrogated at great lengths and nothing came of it. The dragons were now near extinction and the virus was still around getting more sick. The wolves who had the greatest numbers and more intelligence than the others were voted into place to take over all shifter activities while the dragons tried to pick up the remaining pieces of who was left. Now all dragons lived in the same clan with King Elias as the leader. They stayed out of all shifter politics and just kept to themselves trying to rebuild what they lost. Until the cure and savior was born and ready to save them all through blood sweat and tears and plenty of love. Prologue "Ariyanna please listen to me I beg of you." The Dragon King cried into his wife and mate's lap. "Elias, I know this virus is going to kill me at some point. I feel my strength waning with each passing day. Our daughter grows stronger and stronger as I grow weaker and weaker my love, but I wouldn't want it any other way. She will be our species savior. I've seen it in my dreams and I can feel it in my bones, but after her birth she needs protected at all costs. There are two witches that you need to seek out they will hide her and protect her. They will teach her everything she needs to know about our world and the human one as well. Eventually our males will have to find mates with human females again to build our species back up. I don't want to hear the excuses as to why it wont work. It will just please trust me I beg of you." The King sighed, "I know you know best my dear. I just can't imagine a life without you and not having our daughter here either. What do I tell the people?" The queen cupped her husband's cheek, "Tell them we both died during childbirth. Then take her away." He nodded at her knowing full well that she was right. She always was. The Fire Goddess always knew what she was doing and gave his wife the gift of sight into the future. It maybe small bits and pieces, but always came to fruition. He gripped her hand and helped her into bed. Labor should be any day now. The Queen awoke with the extreme pains of labor. She knew her daughter was coming and would be there very soon. Dragons where born rather quickly. She didn't want anyone else in there with her, but her mate. He must have gone out to fly to let off the stress of their dire situation. Mates had the power to speak to one another telepathically. Which she used to call to him now as the pains were growing worse by the seecond. "I'm coming my love." He growled in her mind. Soon after he burst through the door of the room they shared and pulled the blankets back to check how things were progressing. "I see her head love. She's coming faster than the four boys did. You need to push Love now" She pushed with all the strength she had left then heard her daughter's first cry in this world. Elias cleaned her up and wrapped her in a blanket and handed the perfect bundle of joy to her. She gazed down at her beautiful daughter with brilliant green eyes and a small smattering of red hair. She was perfect and they're savior. A couple days later her strength was gone. The queen could barely keep her eyes open and it was so hard to breathe. Her illness was too far gone to be saved by her daughter and it was way to early for everyone to know exactly how important she truly was. Her mate and all four of her beautiful boys Micah, Alijah, Ryker, and Jayce all taking turns holding they're sister. "Momma," Jayce started, "She needs a name." She nodded, "I want it to be Ariyah as is custom for her to have a small part of my name in there." She coughed and weezed as her mate lay with her. "It's time my loves. One day we will all be reunited again with the Fire Goddess herself when its your time. Good bye all of you and I love each and everyone of you dearly. Boys please keep your father sane. This world needs him and your sister in order for the rest of the dragons to survive." They all nodded and stood around the bed touch they're mother as she took her very last breath. h
