Eric Pov
We went up to the hotel suite. No one got in the elevator with us. CD was so Light she barely weighed anything. I carried her to Anna's room and Held her sit up in the bed.
“I got it from here Eric. Why don’t you go and shower, relax, do whatever you need to do. We’ve got her back and she’s ok. She’s with us and that’s all that matters.”
I headed out of the suite and back down to the car. Joe had seen the car. He must have noticed the plates. I needed to get the plates changed and I needed to move the car.
There was a tool box in the back along with new license plates and a new registration. In less than 10 minutes I had the plates changed and I parked the car near a bunch of cars in the middle of the lot. I headed back up to my suite and headed for the shower. I needed to breathe and relax. Even though that was hard to do I needed to try and do it. She’s in my suite she’s safe with her cousin. She’s here, she’s alive and we’re almost safely out of here.
The hot water poured down my face and through my hair. I ran my hands through my hair and leaned against the shower wall. The heated water running over my body. I had spent the last ten years working out, getting rid of my chubby rolls. I went as had Lasik surgery on my eyes so I no longer needed the coke bottle glasses. I made myself into someone that I could be proud of that she could be proud of. I wanted her to look at me and know it was me. But too much time had gone by I changed too much. Will she know it’s me? Do I want to tell her its me? That I really am here that I really came for her? She’s finally getting out of this hell hole of a marriage. We’re going to help her get divorced. Tommy already has the paperwork going and it just needs to be signed.
Stepping out of the shower I dried off and threw on a pair of boxers. I had been awake for over 24 hours by this point and my eyes were starting to feel heavy. Sleep was not coming easy I had visions of CD running through my head. All I could see was her broken and bruise figure. After several hours I got up dressed and went to see how the progress was going with Anna and CD.
I knocked on the door and Anna shouted for me to come in. They were in the bedroom Anna was finishing up CD’s makeup. Her facial swelling had come down a lot. Her bright Green eyes looked at me. And she had a slight smile to her face. She was rocking a very short pixie blonde hair do with purple highlights.
"Meet my little sister Arina."
Anna giggled as she said that. I was amazed at how much she looked just like Arina. I had seen photos of Anna and Arina. I also saw a photo of the three of them together they all looked like they could be siblings.
“do you think this is going to work?”
“It will you look just like Arina. Maybe a couple pounds difference but you look just like her. And we are getting you out tonight. Just keep you’re mouth shut and only answer what you’ve been asked. We hop on the jet and head back to Vermont. We only have a few more hours.”
I watched as they hugged each other and I smiled at her knowing she’s safe. And that she feels comfortable with us.
“Alright you ladies ready for dinner? Theres a nice restaurant here in the hotel. We can get packed I can bring the stuff down to the car we can eat and head to the airport.”
“alright give us like twenty minutes and we’ll be ready.”
“Alright I’m gonna get my bag together take your time.”
Twenty minutes later CD walked out of Anna’s room with a backpack and wearing the UVM sweatshirt and Jeans. Her makeup even though it was minimal she looked just like Arina.
I took their bags and mine as well and we headed down to the lobby. The girls exited the elevator as I headed down to the car to put in the bags. A police vehicle was driving around the parking lot I nodded my head towards him and kept walking. I watched as he circled a few times before he drove out of the garage. I headed back towards the car and quickly placed the bags in the trunk. Then proceeded to make my way back to the elevator and back up to the lobby.
The girls were standing at the entrance to the restaurant waiting for me. The hostess came up and told us to follow her to the table. I pulled out CD’s chair first than Anna’s Showing I could be a gentleman when I wanted to be. We were all still on edge so conversation was not coming easy. I had informed them quietly how there was a police officer circling in the garage down below and we should make it a quick meal.
The both agreed and we chose club sandwiches and fries. Something that would come quick and we could quickly eat. There were only a few people in the restaurant dining at the moment so the food came out within ten minutes of us ordering. We were half way threw when I saw the officer from earlier walking in. He came up behind CD and spoke.
"Excuse me? I was wondering if I could have just a moment of your time?”
“Of course Officer what can we do for you?”
“Earlier this afternoon a woman was reported kidnapped. We are currently looking through the tri-state area for her or the vehicle that was reported in her neighborhood early this morning. I spotted one similar in the garage this evening and was wondering if you had seen anyone looking like her around the hotel.”
He showed a picture of CD however this was from when she was 19 not the bruised wife that had been reported missing. CD looked at him and smilied.
“Sorry officer but we’ve spent most of our day resting and haven’t left the room.”
“I see. well if you see or hear anything please contact the police department. I know her husband is very anxious for her to get home safely.”
He hesitated for a moment really looking at CD.
“You’re eyes that look just like hers.”
“Must be a coincidence or something. I’ve never seen this girl however.”
“Alright. Well have a good night folks.”
I watched him walk to a few other tables and talk to them. We all suddenly lost what little appetite we had left. To make it look normal we called the waitress over and got to go boxes and paid the bill. Eric placed a 100$ bill on in the bill fold and we headed over to the elevator.
“Alright ladies get in. I need do something to change the car a bit.”
I wasn’t sure what I was thinking but I knew I needed to change the appearance a bit I needed to keep the car under the radar but add something that would make it so like how could you miss a huge dent or something like that. A sticker or a magnet. That would definitely show this was not the same car. Even with the plates changed. I needed something more. The car next to us had a this car visited the grand Canon magnet so I swiped it off and put it on the drivers side of the car. And there were some funny beer stickers in the glove box that must have been left behind by the former driver. So I placed those on the car as well trying to age them a bit with a water bottle and rubbing the edges. After a few minutes I hoped in the car and we headed to the airport.
We started walking into the airport when a familiar voice shouted from behind us. I turned to look and it was Joe. He was yelling towards Anna.
"Hey, don't I know you?"
"Um yeah, probably because I'm your wife's cousin."
"Have you seen my wife? She's missing. Looks to have been kidnapped.
"No I haven’t. Because of you she hasn’t spoken to any of her friends or her family. Every time she tried to reach out you beat her. “
His face paled at her statement.
“yea asshole I know you took enjoyment out of beating my cousin. She’s probably better off with the kidnappers than she ever was with you. I hope wherever she is she’s doing better that she ever did with you and I hope they treat her way better. Now if you don’t mind we have a flight to catch.”
"Wait. How? Never mind why do you look like my wife?”
“Because Arina, My sister who yes you had met before and Cass were almost identical in looks. That does tend to happen with cousins they share genetics and will look similar to each other.”
"Why is she with you here at the airport. I heard she was supposed to be getting married in two weeks.”
“Not that it’s any of you business but Dad has allowed her to go with me to Pennsylvania to get her wedding dress. Now if you’ll excuse us.”
We tried walking past when he stopped us again.
"I highly doubt that because last I knew you were disowned by the family for not getting married and they almost beat you to death. So what’s the real story?”
“That is the real story asshole. Arina here is going to get her wedding dress. Now if you’ll excuse us.”
He kept trying to stop them. I went to get airport security I was tired of this and we needed to get out of here and quickly. When I walked back over with the security guards I heard the argument about their eyes.
“Cass and Arina have the same eyes, They are almost twins. Growing up they were like one person it was scary how alike they were. But since you wont leave us alone here's her passport. See Arina Boyton, born in May. Cass's birthday is in December. They are six months apart. Now for the final time we need to leave we have a flight to catch and I would much appreciate not missing it. Thanks.”
Security stepped in and detained him while we walked through the security check point. Once we were a distance away we started running towards the gate. Jeremy was waiting at the plane for us as we headed outside and crossed the tarmac getting into the plane.
The propellers started turning and the engine was running. The Tank full we just needed permission to take off now from the control tower. CD looked like her stomach was tying itself into knots. We heard the all clear over the radio and the plane started rolling down the runway. Her hands were squeezing the arm rests and she was looking like she was about to be sick all over the place. I whispered in her ear to take a deep breath in and slowly let it out. And I started breathing like that with her.
Once the plane evened out and she loosened her death grip on the seat she started to become visibly more relaxed. I handed her a paper bag just in case and helped her lean forward rubbing her back gently. Her breathing returned to normal and she was feeling a lot better. She started to sit up and lean back against the seat.
I lightly ran my fingers over her hand just trying to soothe her more and get her to relax.
Anna was across the row from us and turned her head looking at us.
"You're doing OK, Cass?"
"Yea, I'm feeling better thanks."
I wasn’t paying attention to the conversation around us. I only made a few comments to what was being talked about. Somewhere over Tennessee She rested her head on my chest. I wrapped my arm around her and held her there. My fingers gliding up and down her arm lightly. She visibly sighed in relief as we flew further and further north.
As we entered Vermont airspace I gently shook her arm awake. She was so cute tilting her her up and looking around like she was confused as to what was going on. She has that freshly sleepy look to her eyes and her hair was slightly pushed up to one side. She looked at me and it clicked that she had fallen asleep on me.
“Hey Good morning sleepy head. We’re about to land.”
“ok. I’m so sorry I fell asleep on you. I just.. I “
“I get it you felt relaxed with me. It’s ok I don’t mind. I’m glad you felt safe enough to sleep.”
“Yeah, Thanks. I…”
Her eyes widened when she saw the little wet spot on my shirt. She had drooled a little on me.
“It’s fine. I have a sweatshirt I can throw on. Don’t worry about it, really.”
“Thanks. As soon as I get money of my own I’ll pay for your dry cleaning.”
“You don’t need to do that.”
“Are you sure. I feel awful and I don’t want you to have a ruined shirt because of me.”
“My shirts not ruined and its ok. It really is.”
“Ok.”
The plane touched down on the runway in Rutland. I helped CD off the plane and we headed for my car. Anna spread out in the back seat so CD took the passenger. I put our bags into the trunk and got into the drivers seat. I drove over to Anna’s house first and pulled in the drive way.
“Listen if you want you can stay with me. I have a bigger place and you’ll have your own room and bathroom if you want it. No pressure or anything. I assume that if he doesn’t find you soon he’s going to start looking into your family and that includes Anna.”
“I wouldn’t want to impose. I don’t really know you and you’ve already done so much for me. I just don’t want to feel like I’m taking advantage of your kindness.”
“It’s no trouble really. I think you would feel safer there.”
“Cass it’s up to you, you can stay with me but just so you know we’re sharing a bed. My house is small. And I’ve gone vegan since I last saw you so there’s no meat in my house.”
“I uh. I…”
Tears started pouring down her face. I felt so bad for overwhelming her. I just wanted her close to me.
“Hey, Hey it’s ok we’re just trying to keep you safe and make you feel comfortable. You’re free from him.”
“I just really want to take a shower.”
“Ok Come on in stay with me tonight and we’ll start getting things worked out tomorrow. We can share my bed like we used to when we were kids ok.”
“OK.”
The tears were pouring down her face. She looked so sad like she didn’t know what to do. She just nodded her head and started getting out of the car. I didn’t want to leave her like that. My body could not handle seeing her like that. I climbed out of the car and walked over to her. I took her into my arms and held her close to my chest. I kissed the top of her head and just held her. She visibly relaxed into my hold. I turned my head and looked at Anna. I couldn’t leave them not tonight. Not with CD looking like this.
“Anna can I crash on your couch? I would feel better knowing someone was here protecting you two.”
“Yea, course. You’re always welcome to stay at my house.”
I picked CD up and carried her inside. She was very unsteady on her feet. Her emotions were all over the place. And I can only imagine what she went through in that house and the torture that she went through living there.
