THE CONFESSION
Amara often wondered whether she should tell Daniel how she truly felt or keep her feelings to herself. She was terrified that confessing her love might ruin the beautiful friendship they had spent five years building.
Daniel wasn't just her best friend. He was her safe place, the one person who could make her laugh even on her worst days.
But there was one problem.
Daniel was the son of the Prime Minister, and Amara was the daughter of his family's head chef.
Their worlds were different, even though their friendship had always made those differences seem unimportant.
Amara had learned early on that people like her weren't expected to dream about people like Daniel. His family belonged to a world of influence, privilege, and power. Hers revolved around hard work, modest living, and making the most of the opportunities they had.
Daniel, however, had never treated her as though she were beneath him.
To him, she was simply Amara.
And that was precisely why she was afraid of losing him.
As the days passed, Daniel continued talking endlessly about the new girl he claimed to like. Amara listened, smiled, and offered advice, pretending that every word he said didn't hurt her a little more.
Until one evening, everything changed.
Daniel came to her, excitedly explaining how he planned to approach the girl and finally tell her how he felt.
Amara couldn't take it anymore.
"Daniel, I can't do this!" she blurted out.
He stared at her in confusion.
"Can't do what?"
She swallowed hard, struggling to keep her voice steady.
"Can't you see me, Daniel? I've liked you for such a long time, and you're so busy looking at everyone else that you've never noticed me."
Silence.
Daniel stood frozen, unable to find the right words.
He had liked Amara for years, too, but had hidden behind the excuse of another girl because he was terrified of risking their friendship.
Amara didn't know any of that.
All she saw was his silence.
And she interpreted it as rejection.
Her cheeks burned with embarrassment as she looked away, wishing she could take back every word she'd said.
"Forget I said anything," she whispered.
Before Daniel could respond, she turned and hurried away, leaving him standing there with the confession he'd secretly wished to hear for years.
---
That night, Amara barely slept.
She replayed the conversation repeatedly, wondering how she would face Daniel the following day.
She had spent years protecting their friendship, only to risk everything in a moment of pain.
What had she been thinking?
Meanwhile, Daniel sat in his bedroom, staring at his phone.
He wanted to call her, but he didn't know what to say.
How could he explain that the girl he had been talking about didn't even exist?
How could he tell Amara that he had been in love with her for two years?
He picked up his phone, typed a message, deleted it, and tried again.
Eventually, he put the phone down.
He would tell her everything the next morning.
He just hoped he hadn't already lost her.
