Chapter One- I'm Pregnant?
Sophia
This is going to be the best Valentine's of my life. In two years of our fairytale romantic relationship, this is the first time I'll be meeting Alexander's family. He proposed a month ago and insisted that I come over to LA to meet the Moranos. I'm so excited, I'll be getting married to the love of my life, my first and only love, but I'm so nervous also.
Here I was, seated in a luxurious Mercedes Benz Maybach, driven by Frank, my fiance’s best friend from the airport to meet my fiance. I was basking in the delight of anticipation.
Beep, beep, beeeeep!!! My train of thoughts was interrupted by the ringing on my phone. Mi Amor, it read.
“I hope Frank is treating you well”. A low and soothing baritone voice flowed through the phone.
“Yes baby” He loved when I called him baby, for a young successful domineering billionaire, being called a baby by his woman makes him feel at peace, and I loved doing it. “Frank picked me from the airport and we are on our way to the hotel. He is the perfect gentleman”.
“He better be, you'd be a Morano by this time next week and would have the authority to call for his head”. He mused.
I still couldn't believe I would be marrying into a Mafia family. Alexander has always been open to me about his family, but he has made it clear that he built and owns an online store platform business and that is where he makes his money.
“I'll be waiting in the hotel room with my shirt off”. He said with the low-slow inflection of his voice that is soooo intoxicating. “Just as you like it”
“I can't wait to get there my love”. I replied in like manner, reacting to the erotic atmosphere he has begun to create, biting my buttom lips remembering the last orgasm he gave me. F**k! He is like a drug and I am hooked.
I ended the call as Frank stopped at a red light. Los Angeles is quite beautiful. The green light came up and and just as I was about to ask Frank about LA____ Bang!!!! I heard a huge crash, I felt a huge crash. Suddenly we were tumbling, crashing side ways into a department store.
I tried to scream but I couldn't, there was a painful tightness pressing against my abdomen. Realizing I was upside down I tried to take off my seat belt so I could get out of the car but I couldn't, damn, it was wet and sticky. Oh my God, blood, lots of blood. I heard sirens and then I went out of consciousness
☠️☠️☠️
I woke up feeling like a ton of weight was placed on my head, there were beeps going off at a steady rate from monitors in the room.
“You are awake, welcome back Miss Washington, you were involved in an accident but you are stable now” the nurse said excitedly, “let me inform the doctor”.
“Wait please” I gently requested, my head still feeling awful. “Where is Frank?”
“I guess you are referring to the man who was behind the steering wheel?” She replied in a low and sad tone. “He died on at the site of the accident, there was nothing we could do for him”. Then she left.
A tall dark man in a white coat and a stethoscope around his neck walked into the room I was kept in.. “Hello, I'm Dr Andrews, I'm glad you have regained consciousness, you are doing well considering the situation” . He said with a smile. “You are lucky you used your seatbelt, you will be fine”.
He made the statement “You will be fine” as though it should make me happy. I was still petrified about the death of Frank. He really is dead? My head was spinning in different directions.
“I was lucky?” I muttered with sarcasm.
“Yes, you were, you had just a cut to your arms from the shattered side glass and a concussion from trauma to your head”. He answered looking into my eyes. “But apart from that, your baby is safe and you didn't suffer any major injuries, you should be out of here in 3 days”
“Baby? Did you just say baby?” I queried, confused by what he was talking about.
“You are not aware you are pregnant?” Dr Andrews inquired and flipped through the papers in his hands. “You are 6 weeks pregnant Miss Washington, but not to worry, both of you are safe. Your fiance is here to see you, I'll be inviting him in, but you have to rest after that, your body needs it”
A wave of fear and anxiety washed over me, so I was pregnant. I had been so busy to notice the signs, the delayed period, the morning sicknesses. I was just glad to hear that Alexander was around. What I need now more than anything is a familiar comforting presence and I couldn't wait to see him.
Tall, broad shoulders, elegantly dressed in a three piece Italian suit. Alexander walked into the hall from where I could get a view of him through the window of the room in which I was kept. There were three other men with him and even in a hospital he still walked as though he owned the place.
He was talking with some of the staffs of the hospital, he was probably asking about my well being. Our eyes met and I was so overjoyed to see him, he looked away abruptly and that startled me. There was something in his eyes and it was not care.
“Alex! Alex!!” I called out in a loud voice.
He walked in and still at the door he looked at me, his expression completely cold and blank. “Give me a minute, I am making arrangements for Frank's body to be moved out of here. He needs to be buried within 24 hours.” He spoke coldly and left.
I fully understand, Alex must be in so much pain over the death of his best friend. I am even hurt by his death and I don't know him as well as Alex did. Frank and Alex have always been very close. He said Frank has been his personal bodyguard from the time he turned 18 years of age. He was literally his best friend. He must be hurt, oh poor Alex.
Some nurses walked in. “It's time for your medication”. They began unpacking all they came in with.
“Would it make me sleep? Or drowsy?” I inquired.
“Yes a couple of them would”. The first nurse I saw when I woke up replied with a smile. “But don't worry, you'd be fine”.
“Please can it be delayed for a bit?I want to see Alexander before I go to sleep” I inquired.
“I understand you, but if you are to be well and recover quickly, you need to take your medications at when due.” She explained with care as they continued to unpack the medications.
“Alright” I succumbed. “But can you please let Alexander, my fiance, know that I want him by my side?”
“Sure.” She replied with a smile. “I will personally let him know”
The nurses where barely out of the room when I drifted into sleep.
☠️☠️☠️
I woke up to the view of Alexander, sitting by my bed side just looking at me. His face was cold, his still had his suit on, damn, his tie is still on fastened tight around his neck.
“Baby.” I spoke with sympathy in my voice. “I am sorry about Frank, you must be really hurt”
He kept quiet, just looked at me, reclined on the chair by my bedside with his left leg crossed over his right leg, his expression still cold.
“Well, I have something important to tell you”. Telling him about the pregnancy here would just be highly inappropriate, his sour mood caused by the death of Frank would mess it up. “But I'll tell you after we leave this hospital.” I stated, still trying to read his expression. Why is he so cold to me? I understand the tragedy, but I almost died! Or does he blame me for Frank's death?
“I have something to tell you, and I want you to listen well. I won't repeat myself again.” He spoke slowly with a cold tone that made my stomach turn.
I looked at him and kept very still, I don't even think I was breathing at the time.
“Me and you? Us? Our wedding, our together-forever, everything? is canceled, over and buried forever. This interaction is the last we will ever have. You are not worthy to be my wife and now I see it.”
