Chapter 10

Cassidy settled on the bed in one of Hades' spare rooms. He and Persephone had retired earlier. Thankfully their rooms were on the opposite side of the building and she wouldn't be privy to their nighttime routine. She couldn't get Thanatos out of her head. If he kept looking at her like she hung the moon, she might do something stupid like kiss him again. Not that she had kissed him in the first place. No, that'd been all Death himself with his lush lips and demanding mouth. It'd been impossible to remain focussed on the Fates discussion when all she wanted to do was finish what he'd started. Damn Persephone! Cassidy grabbed a pillow and pressed it to her face, muffling her scream of frustration. If she hadn't interrupted Thanatos… She let that thought trail off. She was damp enough as it was, and following that trail was only going to make it worse. There was a light knock at the door, and then the errant God of Death was pushing in. Could he read minds? "Hey, I just wanted to check on you." He had a bundle in his hands. "I'm good." Cassidy straightened up. His hair was dripping onto his t-shirt, and she had the sudden longing to twist those curls in her fingers while his face was– "I brought you something to sleep in." He interrupted her thought and her face flushed. Damn, when Hades had given her coffee, he'd awakened the rest of her appetites too. "Thanks, Boss." Cassidy slid off the bed, padding over to him. His eyes darkened as he watched her. His gaze slid back to the bed and down to her again. Did it just get hot in here? She took the bundle, her fingertips brushing his hand. A frisson of awareness skirted her spine as her thighs clamped against a wave of need flooding through her. "It isn't much…" She blinked, coming back to the room as her traitorous mind tried to picture Thanatos throwing her on the bed. She shook out the clothes, her eyes going wide. "Are you serious?!" The lightning bolt symbol in its little circle all over the red pajama bottoms and on the chest of the shirt made her grin. "How did you know he was my favorite superhero?!" "I may or may not have had your profile printed out when I was looking for David." Thanatos shrugged. It was a stalker-move but so damn sweet. "Which one is your favorite?" "All of them? Nah, it's actually Wally. It's the red hair, man." She scooted to the en-suite, pulling the door to. She peeled her other clothes off. She really needed to get some stuff from her apartment. Like underwear. She slid into the shorts. Did her profile include her size too? Because they fit like a glove. She pulled the t-shirt on and sighed. The material was so soft. "Thanatos these are–" She stepped out of the bathroom, her mouth going dry. He was stretched out on the bed, an arm behind his head. "Perfect. What are you doing?" "What does it look like, little goddess? Going to sleep." "Uh, no. Isn't there another room in this gigantic place?" She arched an eyebrow at him, willing her cheeks to cool. Damn her pale skin! She couldn't hide her mild arousal at the image of him sprawled across the blanket. "Look, either I can worry all night about whether or not you're okay, or I'll sleep in here and I will know." Thanatos shrugged. "So I chose the 'sleep in here' option." "Without asking?" "Sweetheart, I don't ask to be invited in where I know I'm already wanted." Cassidy leaned against the doorframe to the bathroom. "Care to try that again, maybe with a please?" "Stop arguing with me and get in bed. I don't bite. Well, not hard." He had the audacity to give her a sly grin. Cassidy made her way slowly to the bed. She kept her eyes on his. He watched her with that same look. The one that said she handmade the stars just for him. It set her blood on fire. Those dark eyes shining with that hint of awe. His full lips tugged upward in the hint of a smirk. He looked too relaxed and Cassidy ached to watch him come undone. She climbed onto the bed, settling herself on top of him. f**k the bullshit. She wanted him. His breath hitched as she leaned down, her dark hair mingling with his. "Maybe I don't ask for permission either." She slammed her lips on his. The kiss was a claiming one. It was hard, fast, and desperate. Her fingers twisted in his curls, tugging as she deepened the kiss. His tongue flicked the seam of her lips and her mouth opened to him with a sigh. He deepened the kiss, tongue dancing with hers. He nipped at her lower lip, and her thighs tightened on his hips as she rocked her aching core against the rigid length of him beneath her. She moaned into his mouth as the seam of her pajama shorts teased across the bundle of nerves at the apex of her thighs. Thanatos twisted his hips, turning them deftly. Cassidy's back hit the bed, her eyes flying open as he broke the kiss. "Are you good?" She whispered. She'd never been so forward with someone before. But she knew she wanted him more than anything. "Is this what you want?" His breathing was harsh as he rested his forehead against hers, drinking her in. "You have to tell me now, doll." Cassidy took a moment to consider it. Was this what she wanted? At this moment, most definitely. But how would it change things? He searched her gaze, his eyes dark. She could see a thousand emotions running through them. Something warm and soft made his eyes tender, and sent butterflies fluttering in her belly. And she was here for it. To hell with it. Any questions would be future Cassidy's problems. "Yes." She breathed, pulling his face to hers.
