Chapter One
"Welcome home, my love. How was your business trip?" Lisa asked. Stepping forward with a warm and cheerful smile. "Fine," he muttered coldly, brushing past her like she did not exist, dumping his coat on the bed without giving her a second glance. Lisa froze for a moment, her heart sank. She had never seen him this cold towards her. Could it be something that happened to him? His silence stung more than his blank response. She couldn't help but notice the coldness and the lack of attention from her husband the moment he entered the house. He stopped midway to the bathroom and turned slightly, "Lisa, we need to talk." "Talk?" She croaked. He walked back down, with a firm expression on his face and handed her a brown envelope. "This isn’t working anymore. Sign the divorce papers. Let's not pretend this marriage is working.” Her fingers trembled as she took them. Her eyes scanned the sheets, and everything blurred as tears welled up. "Divorce?" she whispered. "Tony, what are you saying? We've been together for years. We love each other—don’t we?" His face stayed blank. "I’m sorry. But this is how it has to be. I don’t want things to get messier than they already are. I can't be with a woman who can bear me a child.” "But... but it can’t be!" she cried. "Is it something I did? Please we will try all necessary ways till we get a baby!" "No," he said flatly. "I am tired of this, how long are we going to try? I have signed the papers already. Sign your part too." And just like that, he turned and walked into the bathroom, leaving her broken in the middle of the room. Lisa stood there, clutching the envelope, her world crashing around her. Her eyes welled up with tears “This can't be,” She sobbed. That night, the silence in the house was deafening. She didn’t call her best friend Alice. She didn’t speak to anyone. She couldn’t. She did not want anyone feeling sorry for her and offering sympathy. Tony was her high school sweetheart. Her soulmate. The man she once dreamed of growing old with. And now he wanted out—just like that. She kept their moments as memories in her heart. Hours later, she spotted him leaving in his black Mercedes-Benz. Curious and desperate, she waited a moment, then quietly took her old car—the one he barely remembered existed, and followed him at a distance. He pulled up to an upscale restaurant. The same one where they had their first anniversary dinner. Then she saw her. A young woman in a red silky dress stepped out and hugged Tony tightly. She kissed him on the cheek and lingered in his arms. Tony blushed and walked in the restaurant with her. Lisa’s heart shattered. "Tony... is cheating on me?!” she gasped, barely able to breathe. The cold wind brushed against her pale skin. She turned the car and drove away. Her hands trembled and shook, her vision blurred by tears. Parking in a deserted alley, she let the pain out. "HOW COULD YOU DO THIS TO ME?!" she screamed into the night. "I LOVED YOU!" Her sobs echoed in the silence, her cries raw and heartbroken. The man she once gave her heart too, leaving her to another. Eventually, she tried to leave, but her car wouldn’t start. She checked the gauge and sure enough, no fuel. "Damn it!" she hissed, slamming her hands on the wheel. She hadn’t checked the gauge in her rush. With no other option, she stepped out and began walking, the cold night air biting at her skin. She hadn’t brought a coat. She was too disturbed from everything that had been happening. Then came the manly voices from the shadowy corners of the alley. "What's a pretty lady like you doing out here alone?" a man called from the shadows. Another man stepped out, twirling a knife. "Need some company?" Lisa backed away, panic flooding her. "Leave me alone!" She yelled. They snickered. She tried to make a run for it, but stumbled on her heels and crashed to the ground, twisting her ankle painfully. "We won’t hurt you," one of them said, grinning. "We just wanna have some fun." "Get away from me!" she screamed, heart racing, her pulse rushing through her veins. Suddenly, a sleek black car screeched to a halt beside them. The door swung open. A tall man in a black suit stepped out. His eyes were unreadable. His presence oozed masculinity, commanding. He was 6 '7, and his guard was slightly shorter. "Get lost," he said firmly. One of the men scoffed. "Is she yours now or something? She’s ours tonight." The man took off his jacket. "Don’t make me repeat myself." The first goon lunged at him with a knife. The man made a fast move and defeated the goon easily In seconds, he was on the ground, unconscious. "What the hell did you do to him?" the second man stuttered. "The same thing I’ll do to you, if you stay." His voice never wavered. The second attacker dropped the knife and ran for his life. Lisa trembled in fear, clutching her purse close to her chest. Her ankle throbbing in pain. The man turned to her. "You alright?" "I... I think so." Tears streamed down her cheeks. "Thank you. You saved me." "It’s okay," he said, kneeling beside her. "I’m Liam Styles. But you can call me Mr. Styles." She looked up at him, stunned. He was devastatingly handsome, with sharp features and intense green eyes. He offered her a hand. "Let me drive you home. It’s not safe out here." She hesitated, then nodded. He saved her life, she wanted to be home safely after such an incident. The drive was silent. Neither spoke. Lisa kept glancing at him, wondering who this mysterious man was. When they arrived at her gate, she finally broke the silence. "Thank you, Mr. Styles." "You’re welcome." He paused. "But why do you look so broken? Did I say something wrong?" She let out a bitter chuckle, brushing a tear off her cheek. "I lost everything tonight. My husband—he left me. For someone else. After everything we’ve built together." Liam's face softened. "I’m sorry to hear that." "I’m such a mess. Crying in front of a stranger like this." He hesitated, then gently hugged her. “You needed that. No judgment here.” She pulled back, flustered. "Thank you... again." He gave a small nod. "Take care of yourself, Lisa." Her breath caught. Did I tell him my name? Before she could ask, he was already back in his car. He drove off into the night, leaving behind a trail of mystery. Lisa stood by the gate, staring into the distance. One man had shattered her. Another saved her. But what did he want in return.
