“I'm sorry sir but it's difficult to find something with nothing but just a name.” Mark, the investigator, explained to Adrian over the phone.
Adrian had realised what he was asking for was almost impossible as well.
After the events of the weekend, especially the passionate night he had spent with Lena, he found himself unable to move on. He just couldn't forget her no matter how hard he tried.
So he decided to hire an investigator to help him with his search but since the only thing he knew about this strange woman was her name, Lena, he knew it would be hard to find her.
The name was such a common name and he didn't even know where she lived which would have further helped him in his search and he didn’t get her picture too.
So he knew finding her wouldn't be easy but he stayed hopeful, but now he wasn't sure he would ever find her again.
He sighed heavily before responding to Mark, “Thank you for your time Mark, I really appreciate your efforts.”
“You're welcome boss and I'll keep looking too, if there's any new development, I'll let you know.” Mark assured him and they ended the call.
Adrian sighed and reached out for the necklace Lena had left behind. He knew the necklace was expensive, it looked so simple but he knew it cost a lot.
The necklace was one of the reasons he wanted to meet Lena again, he wanted to return it back to her, he could sense that it would be important to her and she must have noticed it was missing by now.
Deciding to distract himself, Adrian reached for his laptop and drowned himself in work.
Monday came soon enough and Lena had spent the whole weekend preparing for her interview and by Monday morning, she was feeling ready.
She was nervous but was determined to do her very best at this interview.
Walking confidently into the tall building, she made her way to the receptionst desk and she was directed to where the interview would be holding.
When she arrived at the boardroom, she found several other applicants waiting to be interviewed themselves. The huge crowd intimidated her and she quickly ran to the bathroom to calm herself down.
Lena adjusted her blouse, then her skirt and tried to straighten her hair again with her hand for what felt like the tenth time.
She was determined to make a good first impression and she was doing everything to make sure that was what happened.
Today was a big day for her, a job at a company like Hawthorne was one that could turn her dreams into a career. She practiced her answers again in front of the mirror, memorised everything that could be useful.
She even practiced her smile.
She was ready, nothing was going to go wrong.
She went back to the boardroom and waited around for a few more minutes till her name was finally called.
Taking a couple of calming breaths, she stood up and made her way to the interview room and that was when she saw him.
Adrian.
Sitting in the middle of the interviewers, looking confident and dangerous at the same time, just like he had looked that night as well.
Lena’s mind couldn't help but flashback to the night they had spent together and her body shivered at the thought of it.
She looked up and her eyes locked in with Adrain’s eyes too, at first he was surprised but then his expression quickly changed to an amused one.
Adrian was enjoying this.
If he had known the woman he had been desperately searching for all weekend would just walk into his office with her own legs, he would have just waited patiently till Monday.
But he didn't know that was what would happen, how could he know? Up until last night, he had concluded he would never get to meet Lena again but life or fate rather, had other plans for them.
“Welcome miss Carter. Please, have a seat.” Adrian addressed her.
His voice was just as smooth and deep as she remembered.
Lena wanted to run away.
All she wanted to do was turn around and run out of the room but she didn't. Instead she forced a smile on her face and took a seat in the empty chair just in front of Adrian.
Her heart was pounding, of all the people she could have slept with that night, it had to be Adrian.
“You're in charge of the interview?” Lena couldn't stop herself from asking. The other interviewers looked at her like she was crazy.
She knew she wasn't the one who was supposed to ask questions but she needed to prepare herself more too.
“I own the company.” Adrian responded to her question, leaning back in his seat and folding his arms across his chest.
“Such a small world right?” Adrian teased her, followed by a small chuckle. She knew he was referring to that night.
“A very small world indeed.” Lena responded and the interview started.
Adrian took charge of it, throwing questions after questions at her.
“Your resume is quite impressive Miss Carter. You have a degree in finance, that's quite an achievement and you've managed to do this at such a young age too.” Adrian praised her and she felt her nerves calming down at bit.
“What's your biggest weakness?” He asked.
That was definitely not the next question she was expecting him to ask, “Excuse me?”
“Well you seem so ambitious, based on what I'm looking at in your resumé. Is there anything you can say is a weakness for you?”
His question made her think long and hard, “I'd say it's caring too much. About the job I mean. I can overwork myself so as to make everything perfect.”
Adrian nodded his head but didn't say anything more for the rest of the interview. He didn’t even look at her till they were done.
By the end of the interview, Lena was certain she wasn't going to get the job, because who would want to hire their one night stand, she realised that was all she was to Adrian.
She was just one of the many women he had probably slept with.
Once Lena got home later that night, she busied herself with looking for other companies she could apply to, since she was so sure Hawthorne would not be hiring her.
As she was working on her laptop, the email came in.
She opened it, “Congratulations. Welcome to Hawthorne Global Miss Lena Carter.”
She couldn't believe she had gotten the job and she would be starting tomorrow. She wanted to be happy but a part of her was feeling scared, something was smelling fishy.
She was still on shock when her phone vibrated beside her. She reached out to it and opened the message.
“I look forward to working with you. See you tomorrow Lena. - A” The text had read, she knew what that A stood for, it was Adrian.
Lena continued to stare at her screen, she knew Adrian had something in plan for her but what could it be?
Well, whatever it was, Lena knew she would find out tomorrow.
