I was on my knees
chapter 1: I was on my knees
---
I was on my knees before my dad, begging him to allow me to start going to school. At front of his Shop.
I was really on my knees. My knees were touching the ground. The ground was not clean. It was the front of his shop where customers step every day. But I did not care. I just wanted him to allow me to start going to school. I was begging him. My voice was low at first, then it became louder. I was saying please, please, please.
People were looking at me and my father. Yes, people were really looking. Some people stopped walking just to look at us. Some people who came to buy things in the market were now looking at me instead of buying. Even his fellow Traders were looking at us. Those traders that have shops near my father's shop, they all left their shops and were looking at us. Also his workers. All his workers were looking. Nobody was talking. Everybody was just looking at a son kneeling down for his father in front of a shop.
I was still pleading with him when he stood up and called one of his workers. I was still on my knees, my hands were almost touching his leg, I was still pleading. My eyes were already full of tears. But he did not even look down at me. He just stood up from his chair. He stood up like I was not there.
"RAE! Come go to that main Road and direct the vehicle with my goods down here."
That was what he said. He shouted the name Rae. His voice was strong. He was calling one of his workers to go to the main road.
"Okay Sir, She obeyed and left."
She said okay sir and she obeyed. She did not argue. In my father's shop, nobody argues with him. When he talks, you obey and leave. So Rae obeyed and left.
Rae was one of my dad's workers. She lived in our neighbourhood. We know where she lives. She is not a stranger. She lived in our neighbourhood, very close to our house. She was 10 when She started running errands for my dad before She became one of my dad's workers. When she was 10 years old, she was small. She started running errands for my dad. She would help him carry small things, buy pure water, sweep the shop. That was when she was 10. Now she is grown and she has become one of my dad's workers fully. She is working for him now.
My father walks out like nobody was even at his front. After he called Rae and Rae left, my father just walked out. He walked out like nobody was even at his front. I was still kneeling at his front, but he walked out like I was not there. He walked out like the place was empty. He did not say stand up. He did not say go home. He just walked.
Then he said, "tell your mummy I will be back home late today," he looked back one more time and told me before going.
He said tell your mummy I will be back home late today. That was his message. He looked back one more time. Just one more time. He looked at me kneeling down and told me that before going. Then he went. He really went away from the shop front.
I knelt there Crying heavily. I remained there on my knees. I was crying heavily. My tears were coming out. I could not stop the tears. I was crying heavily right there in front of his shop where everybody could see me.
What kind of life is this? Must I do same thing as my dad?
That question came into my mind. What kind of life is this kind of life? Is this how my life will be? Must I do same thing as my dad? Must I become a trader like him? Must I stay in the shop like him? I choose to be educated. I have chosen. My choice is education. I choose to be educated, not to be a trader.
Some of my father's workers were patting me on my back. Yes, after my father left, some of his workers came close to me. They were patting me on my back. They were touching my back softly, trying to comfort me. I could feel their hands on my back.
I stood up and wiped my tears and left for home. I finally stood up from the ground. I used my hand to wipe my tears. I cleaned my face. Then I left for home. I was walking and going home.
My Name is Akin. I'm 19 years old. I'm the first Child of my Parent with Two female siblings. My name is Akin and I am 19 years old. I am not a small boy. I am the first child of my parent. My parents have three children. I am the first, and I have two female siblings who are girls.
My father refuse to Send us to School even with the fact that he is rich, wealthy and famous. My father refused. He refused to send us to school. And this is even with the fact that he is rich, wealthy and famous. He is not poor. He is rich. He is wealthy. He is famous. Everybody knows him. But he still refused to send us to school.
He only allowed us to attend Secondary School. He only allowed secondary school. After secondary school, nothing else. He only allowed us to attend secondary school and stopped there.
What is his dad's plan?
