The Fall
Solemn and yet joyous music filled the hall as the nightblood clan celebrated their annual coming of age ceremony. Unlike other clans, they made sure that females and males experienced their transformation in different areas of the clan. This was to prevent rare occurrences like females that went into heat as soon as they got their first transformation from being attacked by the young-blooded male wolves. “Young mistress, it is time.” Ana said as she watched Leila, her eyes glistening at how stunning she looked in that blue ball dress. “You look so much like your mom” she muttered, ignoring her eyes that reflected every mix of anxiety and fear. She sighed as her eyes dampened slightly. After tonight, even if she was allowed to grow more before meeting her mate, she would lead a life different from the sheltered princess life they had built for her. Leila sighed as she ran her hands down her blue dress. Blue was her favorite color and her father, Alpha Rayson, had made sure to get the best seamstress to design her a blue dress. Luckily, she had awoken her wolf the night before. “I’m sure that regardless of who it is, he would treat you like you are the best thing to ever happen to him.” She said with pride and confidence. “Really?” Leila asked, uncertainty clouding her features. Not everyone got a fated mate and sometimes, people didn’t like who their fated mates were and rejected them. Although she would know nothing about him, she still hoped for a perfect fated mate like her mom and dad. A night after the transformation was usually for the mating ceremony and neighboring clans would send their wolves over in case their mates were there. With one final look in the mirror, Leila stepped out of her room as she allowed Ana to lead her down to the celebration hall, the music echoing in the dark night. As the alpha’s only daughter, the limelight that came with her entering was distinct as every head turned to watch her, their eyes locked in on the graceful and beautiful figure cladded in blue. There were visible and audible reactions from male wolves as some of them had already started planning to ask for her hand in the scenario that she didn’t have a fated mate. “Our daughter is the most beautiful in the room.” Marline whispered to her husband as she watched Leila’s entry and the crowd’s reaction to her entrance as her eyes teared up. Rayson nodded in agreement, his eyes filled with pride and adoration. As the Alpha last night had been remarkable for him, he had not just been a leader watching more wolves being added to his pack, he had been a father watching his only child and daughter transform. Leila looked around the hall hoping to find the one that would make her heart flutter and make her newly awoken wolf long to be with him. The more she looked, the more disappointed she was at the lack of reaction from her wolf. She had imagined how this night would go for the past five years. By now, in the midst of the crowd she would have smelt it, the most wonderful, alluring scent of her mate, and her heart would begin to race with wild abandon, knowing that he must have smelt her too. Her feet would have taken her a few more steps and then her eyes would have seen him. Her other half. Her soul mate. Everything; the music, clatter of plates, cutleries and the chatter of others would become nothing but just background noise as they met and swallowed each other in a much longed for embrace and their wolves would at that point merge together. “Attack!!!” a loud yell interrupted Leila’s thoughts as confusion and pandemonium filled the hall immediately. Leila’s face was, however, morphed in surprise as she took in Karl’s familiar figure. Since her father had no male heir, Karl was like the son he never had and if everything went well, he was supposed to be the next Alpha. Why was he attacking? Everything happened in the blink of an eye as their team, which seemed to have up to a dozen men for the unprepared attack. “Why are you doing this?” Rayson asked, every bit of excitement from before gone from his face entirely. “You don’t know why I’m doing this? This clan is a dead one and Alpha Dante’s men will be here anytime soon. I want him to at least know that the ones here will surrender even if you have no such intention.” He paused and looked around the large halls, an action that Leila found suspicious as she looked around and realized that a lot of people were actually looking away. Her mind went to Alpha Dante. She had seen him once when he had made a visit to their clan and considering he was the Alpha to the biggest pack ever, she had been surprised by how young and attractive he was… her thoughts were interrupted by Karl’s cold voice “We know he already discussed take over with you Rayson” his direct disrespect annoying her. “Regardless of your thoughts Karl, I remain the Alpha and I will decide what action the pack takes in matters like this” her father argued, beyond the anger on his face, Leila could see the pure pain he was nursing. “And that is why I have every plan to do this.” He said, his words slower than his actions as he brought down a silver sharp knife down her father’s head, detaching it completely and creating a wound that even the fastest genes could not heal. “Ahhh! Father!” Leila screamed, her life falling apart at that very minute and between her sobs and her mother’s they fell beside the all too familiar figure. A figure they had breakfast with earlier today. “How dare you?” Leila asked as she landed a resounding slap on his face, a natural suppression flowing through her, something that Karl didn’t fail to notice. “Tie her down”, Karl ordered as he held her two hands behind her back, regardless of whatever Rayson had taught her, he had taught Karl ten times more. Leila struggled to look back at her mother as she was being carried away with only one thought in her mind. The Alpha had fallen…
