“Call everyone immediately”, Dante's mind linked with his Beta Justin. “Have them meet me in the strategy room upstairs”, he added, walking as fast as he could upstairs to the room in question.
10 minutes later, the door opened with his best friend and Beta walking in, followed by other members of his pack leadership. As soon as the last man walked in, the door was shut.
“Welcome everyone,” Dante called out, reaching for an apple in the fruit bowl. This was his sign to his men that they could relax a little, their alarm was clearly written on all their faces.
“Good day alpha” one of his men managed to voice out. The others were still skeptical as to the nature of their meeting. The alpha only called this set of people into the strategy room when there was an invasion to be planned.
“Come on relax everyone, this place looks so tense as though we are mourning,” Dante commented, smiling, and they all laughed.
“However, I don't have such great news,” he continued, silencing them all.
“Who are we invading next,” one of the men asked.
“But there’s no clan worth invading that is left behind-we just finished dealing with The Dawn pack, our all-time enemy.”
And so the men began murmuring to themselves, each wondering who their next victim would be. As far as they were concerned, they had attained a height where no pack, still together or scampering for their life, could deny that they were the most powerful werewolf clan i all the kingdoms.
“Hahahahahaha…” Dante laughed out loud, to the surprise of his men. They immediately fell silent, wondering what was wrong.
“I wish I could say we were invading a clan. However, for the first time since I became Alpha, there’s a clan daring enough to try and invade Shadownight Clan.” He informed them.
“What!” they exclaimed, surprise clearly written on their faces. Which clan would have the boldness to try such, although they were the invaders, but deep down some of them had pity for the clans they always attacked, which was why they never fully wiped them out. They all knew that, despite what the outside world believed, Alpha Dante was actually a good man, but it was hard to prove that when he was seen as blood thirsty.
And when they had a mission they could not let anyone know yet.
“I do not understand Alpha. What do you mean?”
“It simply means we have a battle to prepare for,”Dante replies, taking a bite from his apple.
“But against who? What's the name of the clan?”
“Well, I wish to know the answer to that question too, which is why we are going to pretend like they bested us and reattack when they least expect it,” Dante replied, smiling.
Justin smiled inwardly. Of course, Dante would take this approach, his curiosity getting the best of him. He had already been briefed by Dante about the news and it was true that the attacking pack was nameless. All they knew were details of the attack and who was leading it.
“I must say Alpha, I do not think we follow. Why that strategy?”
“Because they are a bunch of spineless werewolves, and I’m curious to know what their plan is.”
Now his men were left curious, wondering what had gotten him. How is it that a clan was bold enough and, worse case was, they had no name, no identity. And all their Alpha could say was they were going to allow them in.
“Alpha, permit me to ask, how did you hear about this supposed attack plan?”
“I wouldn’t be the leader I am if I did not know how to source my information, so believe me when I say this news is credible.”
“So who is attacking us? Do we have any idea about who he is and…”
“Their leader is a she, not a he.
“What!” they once again exclaimed; the audacity. Dante was expecting their reaction.
“I mean that doesn’t mean that they are a write off anyway, it only just means that we need to take this seriously. I am a woman who has the nerve to attack my domain. I’m curious to know what she can do, hence my proposed strategy.” He explains to them.
“Who is she? I believe that’s what we are all curious to know.”
“Leila Sander, the dead daughter of the last Alpha of the Opery clan, or at least I was informed that she was dead 5 years ago.
“They all turned to look at themselves, each remembering the pretty frail girl they had brought from the Opery clan years ago.”
“She did not die? How?” Someone asked.
“Because someone here at the time failed to do their job properly and she was able to plan a successful escape under their noses,”he said, looking at them all. They all understood what he was referring to.
5 years ago, when he had returned from battle and learnt that Leila had died from starvation, he had felt pity for her and wondered why she had to choose such a way out.
However, a part of him soon became curious, as to how they could just allow her to die that way and so he had begun. The next day came with the truth of how the event happened. She had killed herself. And so he asked to see why they had dumped the dead body, but alas, there was no body to be found, rather they had found hints to show that someone left that spot wounded.
He remembered thinking she was a smart girl then, but he never believed she could survive out there as a lone wolf turned rogue. And so, although he wanted her as his plaything, he decided to let her go begging after hunger and harsh weather must have dealt with her.
“Now that’s bold. What are your orders, Alpha? We will respect whatever decision you make.“
“Well, first off, we must act cool, as though we know nothing about this plan of hers.”
“ How do we do that?
“Simple, let her attack, we fight a little, kill some of their men, perhaps, or we make it look like they caught us at the moment when our defense is weakest, so nobody dies that way.
“Sounds like a good idea, but do you think she’ll buy it?” Justin asked and everyone began murmuring.
“She has to, we have to make it convincing enough for her to buy it. I believe it's pretty simple. She had never been to a battlefield before. She might know about strategy, but she knows nothing about how wars are fought, so I believe she won’t be able to smell the rat.” Dante replied confidently.
“They will attack in three days' time, probably in the night, so from the day after next, I want security along the northern border to be relaxed. Have the men move further inward and away from our usual borderline.”
“Hmmmm, why do we have to go to such lengths?”
“This way, they’ll perceive that the place is weak, our men can let them in and then proceed to secure their place in case the plan of surrendering to them backfires, so we have them trapped within.” He added and proceeded to assign tasks to every member of the team.
The men continued making plans for about 2 hours, only leaving when they were sure their plan was foolproof.
