When You Are Alive There is Still a Hope

After eating at the restaurant, the couple planned to go to a garage to buy a car. Alphoes has been waiting for this opportunity for too long but he had to endure because he had to take his wife out of his parents home. They hired meter taxi to a nearby city to check out the cars. On their way he was thinking about all the things they went through. Alphoes is the first and last born of Zuh family. His father was a respected lawyer. His mother was a health worker ( not a nurse) she didn't earn much. His father died because of diabetes. His mom was lonely and she got ill just after her husband's sudden death. She changed in a bad way. She became selfish and arrogant. She was now looking down on other people because she was now rich because her husband left a lot of money for her. She was no longer the sweet and loving mother he always knew. Maybe this was her way of greiving. Alphoes didnt like this sudden change of his mom but he couldn't do anything, he only hope she will heal as the time goes on. Alphoes was already working at his current company and was already dating Merry even though they were not married by that time when his father died.

" Mom, I invited Merry for the dinner tonight. I am going to propose to her. I love her and ....". Said Alphoes while bringing coffee to his mom.

"What! Are you out of your mind?"

Mrs Zuh asked angrily.

"Mom! What is wrong with you. You are slowly changing into a person I don't know".

His face darkened.

" Is that how you speak to your mother now? Huh!? Is that your way of showing respect? Just because your father died you disrespect me now? Answer me Alpheos Zuh! Don't forget I am still your mother. I gave birth to you. Why do you insist of marrying that girl?"

She was annoyed.

"She is the love of my life, I feel her...whenever I am with her I feel at peace. She is the one in the millions Mom. Why can't you just accept her! She is the good girl."

His eyes lit up, He always smile whenever he talks about Merry.

" Mmh my boy is inlove. Can't you realise that she has given you a love potion? Damn you Alphoes why can't you.." ( Alphoes enterupted her)

" Jesus Christ Mom! When did you become such a person. Why did you hate her this much?. Why mom? Did she do something bad you?"

"She is ruining you. Look at you..now you dare raising your voice and shout at me. I don't think she is good for you."

"With all due respect mom, I am not asking for your permission to marry her. I was just informing you because I thought you would be happy for me."

Alphoes was running out of patience now. The atmosphere was tense between the duo.

"I still don't think she is good for you in every aspect. Can't you just look else where? There are many beautiful and educated girls in the whole world."

" She is the only woman I like. By the way mom, women are not objects. Fine I am going to take her to a restaurant for dinner and propose to her."

"Wooow! I don't belive you. You are choosing a girl over your mom..ooh Zuh you left me with this infilial child of yours. Why did you leave me in this world alone." * she was crying now*

"You and dad were a perfect couple I have ever met. You were so inlove. You were indeed happy. Why do you insist on stopping me to pursue my love, my happiness? Mom Merry is going to be your daughter in law, I am begging you...please give her a chance."

Alphoes was really helpless.

"Okay! Okay! Let's calm down. You don't have to eat outside. This is your home. But..." Mrs Zuh tried to calm down.

"Mom being with Merry doesn't mean i don't love you anymore. You are my mom and I love you. Dad has asked me to take care of you, I am willing to keep that promise...only if you will allow me."

"Aay I don't feel her. I just can't help it. There is something off about her".

She was squinting her eyes as if she was thinking about something.

"Mom! I give up. Whether you like her or not, I will marry her".

"......................."

" I am going to fetch her now Mom. Please behave yourself. Don't be rude to her okay".

" Okay."

Alpheos went to fetch Merry and soon they come back. They found his mom on the kitchen. Mrs Zuh came foward to greet the guest.

"Merry welcome to our home. I've heard so much about you."

Mrs Zuh put on an awkward smile.

"Thanks Mrs Zuh for welcoming me to your home. I hope you only heard good news".

Merry noded politely to her mother in law. She noticed that her smile was not brilliant, it was as if she was forced to smile at her.

"Ooh, yeah. Please excuse me..I am still busy at the kitchen. Dinner will be ready soon".

"Do you need some help mom? We would like to give you a hand."

Alpheos tried to please his mom.

"No its fine. I am almost done".

She noded and left.

" Relax my love. Mom will love you. It's just that she is still greiving for dad. She is a nice person".

Alpheos comforted Merry.

" I understand."

"Alpheos pour something to drink for Merry please".

Mrs Zuh shouted in the kitchen.

" It's fine babe..I just had a juice remember."

"She had a juice on our way mom. Thank you".

Alphoes replied his mom.

Soon dinner was served and the atmosphere was somewhat awkward on the table.

After dinner Alphoes introduced formally Merry to his mom.

"Mom this is Merry, my girlfriend. Merry this is my mom. I hope you too will love each other because you are both very important to me."

"Nice to meet you Merry. I hope you will be fillial to me and give me more grandchildren".

"I will mom". Merry said politely.

Then Alphoes went down on his knees and took out the ring from his pocket and pop the question.

"Merry...you are the best thing ever happened to me. Whenever I am with you I forget about all the tribes and tribulations I face in life. I forget all the sadness and loneliness. You are the most beautiful woman I ever met in my entire life . PLEASE MY LOVE, MAKE ME THE HAPPIEST MAN. GIVE ME THE HOUNOR TO BE YOUR HUSBAND......WILL YOU MARRY ME?

"............".

Merry, she was cought off guard, she had never expected that*

" Please babygirl.. I know you didn't expect this, but I can't wait any longer. I need you in my life. My life is incomplete without you. My mom is growing old. Make her witness my happiness. Give her the honour to have a beautiful daughter in law".

***she looked at her mother in law who was in tears, and the man infront of her on his knees begging for her hand in marriage..she was over whelmed.

" Yes! Yes Alphoes I will be your wife". She burst into tears.

Alpheos took out the ring out of its container and put it on her finger...he got up and kissed her. He whispered

" I LOVE YOU".

"I love you."

They hugged each other for a long time until mom interrupted....

"Congratulations my children. I hope you will love and respect each other...I hope you will support and be there for each other. Most of all I hope you will be loyal to each other for the rest of your lives".

" Thank you mom. We will".

"Thank you mom. I love you".

She went ahead and hug her mother in law.

Alpheos had this beautiful memory in his mind. He knew that his mom didn't like Merry at first but later she welcomed her, he didn't know what changed her mom and started insulting his wife. He wished he could share these wonderful news with her but his mom disowned him because he bought his wife a house.

Merry was always patient with her mother in law even when she insults her and call her names.

Yeah it's true. Patience and perserviarence is the mother of success. Today they saw a scan of their baby and they're going to buy a car. They have a beautiful home. What more they could ask for.
