One nightmare after another

1217 Words
Vicky's POV The darkness was no longer an escape. The pain came back gradually as my vision swirled into another nightmare. I was back in the castle-like mansion, next to my sister. We were pushed forward by the guards earning another annoyed sigh from the woman. The giant doors opened, revealing our kneeling parents. They looked scared, just like last time. They had tears in their eyes as if they knew what was about to happen. My mother told us that everything would be okay. That we had nothing to worry about when the other doors opened. The grey-haired woman came in again, playing with the knife in her hands. She killed our parents, over and over again, time after time. Yet there were some small differences within these nightmares. She used her robe to clean the bloodied knife before walking in my direction. I crawled closer to Emily while aiming my gaze at the ground. The floor was sparkly and pretty but I spend no focus on it as I was scared as hell. The woman grabbed my chin, making me look into her black eyes. “You are mine now. You see what happens when you disobey us, sweetie?” She wasn’t looking at Emily at all, just me. “You disobeyed us once but it won’t happen again. You are now and will always be ours”. An excruciating pain ran from her fingertips through my body the moment she said these words. She laughed an evil laugh before turning around, leaving the chamber. I could handle the pain put another thing changed within this nightmare. The arm my sister used to lean on to turned cold. I turned toward my sister only to see her lifeless corps next to me. The woman killed her too? When? How? I tried to tell myself that all of this wasn’t real, over and over again. Unfortunately, my mind chose to believe everything in front of me. Tears appeared in my eyes. All I could think about was, how I was responsible for the death of everyone. The pain in my body increased as the scene changed back into nothing more than darkness. The darkness soon faded when light replaced it, blinding me completely. I looked around to see another dungeon. Was I still stuck in the cycle of nightmares? At least the pain was still there, keeping me alert. I tried to sit up straight but my left leg failed to move. I tried to focus my hazy gaze at my legs only to see them chained up to the bed. A bed? I twisted my body so I was able to lean against the wall on my left. Well, this dungeon was definitely new. It was fancier than the ones the elders threw me in before. But the question remained why this fancy stuff? I never had a bed like this? I didn’t understand why they gave it to me now? I heard some muffled voices from outside the room. There were no windows in here except for the one above me. It was small and covered with silver bars. I needed to get out of here as soon as possible. There was no way I was going to sit around and wait for the elders to return. I searched for something to help me break free. A smile formed on my face when I noticed a small shard of glass. I reached for it but the shard was barely within reach. I tried again, this time transforming my hand into a claw. One of my fingernails hooked behind the glass. Bingo! I snatched it from the floor and tried to break the iron lock of the chain. No silver huh? Was it a trap? It took me some time and a lot of patience but I managed to get the chain off. Then I used the chain to pull the bars away from the window. The bars fell onto the ground, creating a loud bang. s**t. The voices went silent. The silence was then followed by footsteps coming towards me. I reached for the window and pushed myself up against the wall. I ignored the radiating pain as I climbed through the window. I used the wall for stability as dizziness threatened to take over. The door of the dungeon opened below me. A growl rippled through the air. It was time to make a run for it. I took in my new surroundings. The window had led me to a street in the middle of a small village. How did I get here? And where is here exactly? Some villagers were staring at me while some others whispered words of fear. Two men in uniform pointed at me before running in my direction. Turning around, I ran in the opposite direction. Away from people and into the forest. The pain was growing with each step but I never slowed my pace. I lost the soldiers eventually but something else made me freeze in fear. There was a ghost right in front of me. Well, technically not a ghost, but my little sister. Wasn't she supposed to be dead? I sniffed the air. She even bore the same scent. My wolf stirred within me. It was as if she was trying to understand what was happening here. The woman c****d her head before stepping closer. “Elenora? Is that you? You, you escaped as well, didn’t you?” How did this imposter know my real name? The name, given to me by my dead parents. The woman took another step forward while I staggered back in shock. The woman looked hurt by this. “My sister is dead. Emily is dead. This is just another nightmare. Yes, that must be it. I just need to wake up”. I am really losing my sanity right now. The woman looked confused at my statement. I reached for the piece of glass, I used to escape. I hid it within my pocket, just in case. The woman raised her hands to surrender. Instead of using it for her, I used it on me. I realized years ago that, hurting myself in a dream could wake me up. With this in mind, I made a long cut onto my arm. I closed my eyes, expecting a different scene once I opened them. When I did, the woman was still there. This included her worried look. Why hasn’t she disappeared like usual? This can’t be real. Right? I dropped the bloodstained glass and sprinted east. Away from her. The woman chased me, begging me to stop running. She yelled something about a cliff but I tuned her out. I ran even faster. A giant cliff came into view but that didn't slow down. I glanced over my shoulder to see the woman still behind me. It was weird how much she resembled my sister. The cliff was right in front of me and I jumped. I smiled knowing, nobody would able to survive a fall like that. This gave me two options. The first one meant my death. The second one would wake me up from the nightmare. My sister ran to the edge of the cliff. She screamed my name when I fell. I closed my eyes, waiting for me to finally wake up.
