Acceptance and a new truth

I kind of liked the fall down. It was like all my worries disappeared. Even if was only for a second. The fall was interrupted by two strong-arms catching me just as I was about to hit the ground. I instantly opened my eyes to see my mate staring back at me. Did he just catch me? Wait, why is he here? Isn't this land owned by the elders? I stared up, expecting to see my so-called sister but she was nowhere in sight. See? It's not real. Nothing is real. I kept my gaze aimed at the rocks above me while I asked the alpha to put me down. Realization crashed at the moment he let me go. MATE??? I looked at him, wide-eyed, before sprinting away. My wolf begged me to turn around, saying he caught us for a reason. But of course, there was no way I would go back to the enemy. Wait. That prison. It was his? What happened with the elders? My mind flashed back to my stay with the elders. That’s when I remembered the woman's last words. It made me stand still immediately. This caused the alpha to crash into me, making us both fall onto the ground. “What the hell is wrong with you?” He got up to his feet again while reaching out to help me.  “Your wounded again, I thought we treated everything. It should've healed by now." He frowned. "Wait, I think it's a new cut.” He looked worried. He reached out to inspect the cut I made with the glass shard. I turned my arm out of his reach and realize he was right. The wound bled heavily. I used my hand to put pressure on it while taking another step back. “You treated my wounds? How did you find me? Are we in the daisy moon territory? How long was I out? Has the attack already taken place?” Panic rose in my mind. I used my bloodied hand to push some hair out of my face, staining it with blood. “You really need some medical aid for that. I can bring you back to my office while reaching out to the pack doctor? Maybe afterwards, we can talk about what happened?" I weighed my options. It could be a trap. A way to lure me back into the dungeon. What if he tries to gain my trust just so he could rape or kill me? But at the same time, I had some questions. Maybe he is not interested in all of that. Could he be sincere? I mean, he saved my life earlier. And what if my sister is really alive? I sighed. Only one way to find out. “okay, lead the way stranger.” He smiled at me before heading back into the forest. I kept my distance the whole way back and made sure to watch his every move. Going uphill was a challenge for me but I made it anyway. We left the trees behind to make room for houses. We were back in the village. Some people bowed to him as we passed by while others were disgusted by his appearance. It made me wonder why. We passed the building I escaped from, making me standstill. Some of my blood was still visible at the small window and the ground. A white line on my knee told me that's where the blood came from. It was already healed. I felt a hand on my arm as if to comfort me. I shook it off and continued walking. He shrugged and picked up his pace to walk next to me. “Why don’t you start by telling me your name? I am Jesse. Jesse Cordatian.” He stretched his arm for a handshake. I shrugged while searching for the right answer. “I don’t think I really have a name right now. The elders called me Vicky as in victory but that name does not seem appropriate anymore”. He nodded understanding. “How about before that? Where did you come from. How long have you been out there?” These questions gave me unwanted flashbacks to the night I was taken. I wrapped my arms around me. “Just don’t.” We arrived at our destination. He tried to be the gentleman by holding the door for me. I refused to enter which earned me a confused look. “You go first.” He sighed before stepped inside. "You see? there is nothing to worry about." I follow his lead while looking for any potential threat. The place was huge but we wasted no time. We went up a couple of stairs before he opened the door on his right. I stepped in and closed the door behind me. The room smelled like him. Cherries and cinnamon. I liked it. His office contained a lot of wood. His desk, the floor, and even some of the walls. He went over to his desk to take a seat in the black leathered chair while pointing at the other black chair in front of the desk. The door opened revealing a smaller woman.“ You called me alpha?" He nodded while I finally took the seat. "Yes, can you take a look at her wound?" She looked me in the eyes and I saw her smile change into fear. I guess I have a reputation. I nodded before stretching my arm. I needed to play along to gain Jesse's trust. It was the only way to gain answers. And otherwise, I could kill this woman in an instant. I almost did kill her when she sprayed some stinging liquid on the wound before covering it up. She nodded again after which she disappeared through the door. "Let’s talk now shall we?” I nodded. "Do you admit being part of the rogue assassins?" I looked him straight in the eyes while thinking about the best way to respond. I decided to go for honesty. "I don't really know who or what I am now. My team is dead and I thought I was next. They brought me close death but hey, here I am. You saved my life. Yay." I let the sarcasm drip off my words. "The elders thought it would be funny to let me die on your premises. They know we are mates. To answer your question, no I don't think they see me as part of their team anymore." He frowned at that and chose to ask the one question I did not know the answer to. "Can we trust you?" It took me a while to answer that. "No, you can't. The same goes the other way around. I don't trust people. But we need to work together if you care for your pack." He nodded. "you spoke of a treat? Please enlighten me." I stared blankly, rethinking the words said in the dungeon. "They're planning another attack. How long was I out?" His eyes glazed over and I knew he was mind linking. Two guys entered the room. They froze as soon as they spotted me. "Close the door Sam." He did while keeping his gaze at me. As if I was a monster, ready to attack their alpha. "My love, you were out for four days but that doesn't matter. Meet Sam, my betá, and Teanie, my gamma." They gave me a quick nod which I returned. "Now, my love, tell us about the upcoming threat you spoke of."
