The baby prince & the coup d'etat

3155 Words
At the turn of the new age for the first time ever, there is to be a union between two vampires from the two greatest vampire families in Havana. On one hand, the strongest male born into the house of Dracul and the son of the current vampire king 'Vlad Dracul Maximus' and on the other hand, the only child born into the house of Vlad in that century. Prince Darien was to be the next king of the vampire clan when his father Maximus decided to go into the everland sleep, for reasons that can only be ascribed to fate he had experienced a Psychic Decree with Princess Anna who was already from one of the royal families and became the head of the Vlad family after the Civil War had ended. Marriage between them would make them the most powerful people in Havana. People were against the idea because it meant that their son would inherit the wealth and power of both families that stem directly from the first king Dracula and his 2nd in command Vlad. Even without the family power, such an individual possessing the blood of Dracul and Vlad mixed in them was prophesied to be as celestial as the higher angels and expected to be the strongest vampire in history. They Psychic Decree (P.D as the vampires call it) had never occurred between the two great houses before, but fate was in control now. The Psychic Decree was a magical vampire experience that happened when one looks into the eyes of their future mate for the first time, it registers to the thought of the vampire involved and all their family members. This meant it could not be hidden or reversed. Years passed and Darien had become king and married Anna, all other vampires had only ever conceived babies through the aid of magic from the mages living within the vampire cities in Havana, but the soon to be prince of the vampire clan was conceived naturally. This brought total hysteria to the vampire clan, it had gotten to the Kravians in their pack homes and mountain houses and the Kravians were not happy about it, some even claimed that they heard the foul laugh of demons in the air on the day the future prince was named as it is traditional for vampires to name their children even before birth. The future prince had lived up to a multiple century old prophesy that said “The naturally conceived son from the union of the blood of Dracul will bring back his memory and power and would end all wars in Havana not just through power but diplomacy and love as well”. The celestial clans waited centuries for this, as the decisions made my Dracul in the past would now be made obsolete or absolute by the only one who has the power to do so. The thrill finally begins. 6:40pm 20th July, 1974 Bloodhaven castle/palace, Bloodhaven Havana. The vampire king had been pacing the hallway leading up to his bed chamber for minutes now and was certainly not going to stop anytime soon. The look of worry on his face was obvious for all to see, no one dared to speak to him at the moment. The entire vampire clan starting from the city of Crimson, to the smaller vampire cities and settlements, to the entire population of vampires in the city of Bloodhaven as well as the mages in the mage city of Peridia were all anticipating the birth of the Prince of prophecy. It was like the whole world at the moment stood still in recognition of the birth of the next vampire king. Vlad Dracul Darien being the current vampire king had authority over the entire vampire clan but not love from some of the older rival families. He was happy with the knowledge that his son would have all their love, respect and fear not because of his birthright alone but because he would be a living myth, a vampire born without the aid of magic, a vampire with the mixed blood of Dracula himself flowing in his veins, a vampire that would be the first of his kind in the entirety of existence. King Darien had stopped pacing now and just stood in front of the large doors leading to his bed chamber that were currently separating him from his wife and mate. She was giving them a son but all he could do now was keep waiting outside the room as the mages and physicians helped her deliver the baby prince. The sound of gunshot and swords being swung permeated the air around him as well as the smell of blood now, they were under attack by Kravians and some rogue mages but he could not even think about that at the moment. The attack had only been focused on the ground floor of the castle with multiple kravians being teleported to the castle entrance by whoever had masterminded this attack, he was sure the target was his son who had not even been born yet, this was most definitely a coup but not with the current king as its target but the future king. He remained standing there in crimson colored robes instead of his usual appearance in the long black jacket, trousers and knee high boots. He currently had no weapons on him but knew he never really needed to carry them around. He heard the cry of a baby come from the royal bed chamber and knew immediately that the child was delivered safety, he needed to be sure his wife was okay as well, he had to be sure Anna was fine. If they were both okay then all he had to do was ensure that his wife and son would be safe from whoever was leading an attack on the palace during the future king’s birth. He pushed both doors open with his hands and walked to where his wife was; she looked up at him and smiled with weak eyes. “Anna, you did it. We have our son and I promise you will both be fine.” King Darien said holding her hand and giving it a slight squeeze as she smiled weakly at him again without saying a word. “Your majesty, she has lost some blood so we will be putting her in a deep magic induced sleep for now while she gets her strength back.” The physician said smiling at the King “She will be fine and strong in no time.” He assured. Just then one of the mages in charge of overseeing the defense of the palace ran into the room through the already opened doors. “Your majesty, we have a problem. The mages attacking us have sealed the exits and placed a spell on the palace that allows us from teleporting anyone in or out. It seems they mean to trap us in the palace and keep on teleporting Kravians in here till the guards are overwhelmed and the palace is taken.” The anxious mage explained quickly while trying to catch his breath. “Do we still have no word from the Chief Mage, where is he? He needs to be with me in the palace on a day like this, is he not” King Darien asked obviously getting angry now. “We can’t reach him at the moment your majesty, since the burial he has hardly been to the palace. No one has seen him in weeks.” The mage explained. “What has happened to my friend?” the King asked himself with a shake of his head before turning quickly to look at the mage who had brought him the details of this attack on his family. “What is your name young mage? It is Kalian if my memory serves me correctly, you are the Chief Mage’s apprentice” King Darien asked sharply. “My name is Kalian, Kalian Soteko your majesty and yes I am his apprentice.” The mage said looking straight into his eyes. “You are to take charge of all the mages within the palace and my palace guards as well. Round them up and divide them into two. A batch will stay in the throne room and make sure no one gets past the second floor. No teleportation magic works on the second floor so the only way they can get up is by passing through the guards head on. The second batch will protect my wife here at all costs. Is that understood?” he asked calmly “Yes your majesty, but what about you and the young prince.” Kalian asked “I am taking the Prince with me and leaving the palace at once. I have a feeling the attack is not about any of us or it would not have been timed specifically to happen at the exact time he was being born. The underground section of the palace has a secret passage I can use to get out of the palace. It would lead me directly to the fountain in the city. From there I know what to do. Give me a single mage to accompany me and try to hold out for as long as you can. I will be back with reinforcements as soon as possible.” The king said and began walking towards the large cot his newly born son had been placed in. Picking the child up and looking into his grey eyes, the shock he felt was instant and powerful but he masked it immediately so no one else would notice. He knew immediately that his son Prince Valentine had been born as a normal human boy. He could hear the normal heartbeat from him and knew it immediately. No vampire had ever given birth to a normal human child before; it was thought to be impossible. He kept getting more and more surprises today. This was however a perfect scenario to help protect his son at least till he regained control of the city and knew who exactly was trying to harm his family. He knew exactly what to do now. Kalian left the bed chamber for some minutes while the physicians transferred the baby Prince from the larger crib to a smaller cot in the shape of a basket that the King could hold in his hand and move around with easily. King Darien took his son’s little basket-like cot in his right hand and turned towards the door when Kalian walked back in with another mage. “This is my younger brother Julian, he will follow you and protect you and the young Prince with his life my liege.” Kalian said as he presented a mage to the King with a bow of his head just as the King had requested earlier. “Julian, I look forward to your assistance. Kalian protect my palace for me while I try to protect our clan’s future.” King Darien said as he proceeded to walk out the room with the future ruler of all of Havana in a small cot that he carried by both its handles in his right hand. Julian following behind him quickly. “You can go back to your quarters; the upper floors are still safe for now. Leave the Queen here to rest while I place the guards in front of this room.” Kalian said and watched as the physicians and lower mages who helped with the child’s delivery quickly left the King’s chambers. He followed after them and closed the large doors shut before speaking to the guards. “Protect her royal majesty with your life!” he said before walking between them through the hall way and down the stairs. He wanted to be with the guards at the throne room. Fighting from the forefront always seemed better to him. King Darien had his son sleeping in the cot currently dangling a bit in his right hand with the young mage Julian following behind him as they got to the flight of stairs at the eastern part of the palace that would either lead them up to one of the towers or down towards the palace’s catacombs depending on if they climbed up or walked down. They walked down the stairs quickly when a voice called out to them from the darkness at the base of the stairs. “No blood sucker is allowed to leave the palace today, we have orders.” A shabby looking man who looked to be in his late twenties said from the bottom of the stairs. “We see you have a little something with you there.” Said the second man from the base of the stairs “Or maybe it’s a little someone and not a something” he added with a snicker. “We would all like to meet the young Prince if you don’t mind. We want to meet the vampire destined to unite Havana.” The first man said looking at his partner as they both laughed loudly. King Darien was in no mood to receive threats or for idle chit chat with people who wanted to harm him. He could sense their bloodlust from where he stood midway down the stairs. He knew they were Kravians immediately he reached the staircase earlier, he could smell them. Normally he would try to finish them off but now he had to wait because he couldn’t attack them directly while holding his son in a cot on one hand. “I have no time to talk, if you are attacking me as men then do so. If you are attacking me as flea ridden dogs, then do so. I have no time to even breathe the same air as mere animals who can only try to behave like normal men from time to time.” He said with coldness and bloodlust that was so dark even the Kravians knew he had no plans of letting them survive this encounter. King Darien took a step down the stairs that immediately made the two Kravians become incensed. They howled and gave into their anger and bloodlust so as to fuel their change. The sound of their bones being rearranged and shifted as their transformations occurred was audible but the process was over in seconds. Now stood two large than man sized wolves at the base of the stairs and immediately the change was complete they began charging up the stairs. As they got closer by some feet the mage Julian prepared to strike first with a spell “Nenaya erup---” and immediately King Darien raised his hand to the young mage’s face. “Do not cast any attack spells Julian; save your essence we need it for something much more important.” He explained and with that he stretched his left hand forward in front of him and spread his legs by a certain distance clearly indicating his plan to attack, but Julian was confused because the King had no weapon at all. Almost instantly a long, two edged silver sword appeared in his outstretched left hand, out of thin air to Julian’s surprise and awe. King Darien as vampire king had certain extra abilities. He was a vampire royal and the king, this meant he had an invisible space around him at all times to store and carry inanimate objects around. Only very few people knew about this power belonging to few members of the vampire royal families. This power had become known by them as ‘the realm’. It served as an advantage and made sure that they were never completely defenseless or unarmed in the event of an unplanned fight. “Stay behind me.” He said turning to look at Julian. He was ambidextrous which made it very easy to use a sword perfectly well even with his left hand. He crouched a bit and then ran past the kravians to the very base of the stairs in the blink of an eye; he was really fast when he wanted to be. He continued walking towards the hall that would lead into the secret passage without turning to look at the Kravians who had just attacked him. The sword vanished just as instantly as it had appeared as he walked away. “Julian, keep close to me or you’ll get lost.” He said calling out over his shoulder to the young mage who was still standing petrified at the midway point of the staircase. The Kravians were both sprawled on the steps as he walked past them, their bodies were on the stairs but their heads had rolled down. King Darien had decapitated the wolves with one swing of his sword and one sprint down the stairs. They walked in total darkness through what seemed like an underground tunnel for minutes. It was like they moved through a maze in total darkness before eventually seeing a beam of light shining through the ceiling. Darien shifted a heavy slab of concrete from above them where the light shone through; as they climbed out of it Julian was surprised to see that they were at the fountain in the city now. They were out of the palace and away from the coup d’état currently trying to happen and had the main target of the attack with them, Prince Valentine was safe for now but the king had other ideas now that he knew his son had been born a normal human boy. He had to ensure his continuous safety till he was old enough to protect himself and there was currently just one way he could think of that would ensure total safety. He bit into his wrist with his fangs and let the blood flow and even pour on the ground where they stood. He proceeded to teach Julian a spell that he needed to cast immediately. Julian raised his hands and put all his essence into the words he spoke and immediately all three of them were transported from the fountain to a place covered by trees, shrubs and bushes. “Your majesty, where exactly are we?” “We just used my blood and your spell to teleport three of us out of Havana. We are in the normal earthly plane. We are in the world for normal humans.” King Darien explained as he raised the cot he had been carrying in his right hand this whole time to his face and smiled when he saw the baby prince sleeping calmly and quietly, totally unaware of the drama his birth was going to cause to all of Havana and maybe even the normal earthly plane. They had managed to escape not just the palace but the entire realm of celestial clans, the boy was safe for now.
