"I am so sorry I am late Mr. Holland." I apologize. "Don't worry, he just arrived too." He said and look to the new student that I cannot see his face. "Hi." I greeted him, since he is a boy base on his muscular body and his short hair.
The transferee turned around and that is when I saw his face.
My eyes widened and my jaw literally drop, even the bag that I am holding fell on the ground as I drop it because of my surprise. As I can see him, as long as I look at me, that night keeps coming back to me, that night came back to ahunt me, my guilt came running back to me...
And it is all because this person in front of me, standing in front of me, is no other than...
"Chase?"
I said as I saw him in front of me.
I don't know if I am dreaming, hallucinating, or what, but I promise to God, Chase is in front of me... no kidding...
"Chase is my twin brother." He said and that is when I realize that how can a dead came back alive? Dead cannot came back alive, and I rmemeber him telling me that he has a twin brother from Thailand! Why did I not think of it that the new student can be Chase brother?
"Jake... You're Jake Hudson... Chase twin." I said with my low tone.
Why does this have to happen? Why does his twin need to come baack? It felt like I am looking at chase and not Jake, everytime I look at him, he reminded of Chase, and reminded me thae horrible things I've done to him, to Cahse, to his twin brother.
What is he going to do if he found out that I ma the reason why his brother his dead? I remember Chase telling me that Jake is much different to him, that he is a hot headed boy, doesn't have a patience, always has this big temper ahead of him, like Austin, but much scarier that Austin....
Imagining who he is makes me shivers.
"You're right. I guess my brother already told me about you, since you are his... Tutor right?" He said and I just nodded as an answer. "Actually, I requested you to become my guide here since you are the one who guide my brother until his death, that is why I want to know you better, if what my brother telling is true, or it is all fake." He said and he gave me his hands. I accepted it and we shake our hands.
He look at mee, at my eyes that I quickly avoided.
I felt like he can sense my nervousness, just by the way how he looks at me.
"I know why you are acting like that." He said and that's why my heart starts pounding so fast, nervous about what will happen next.
I don't want to be so obvious, but I just couldn't stop myself from reacting.
Do you know the feeling of seeing a dead in front of you? Even he is not dead?
That is what I am feeling right now.
"It is because you are the one who found my brothers dead body, right? Behind your house?" He said. "Or... Something more happened that night?" HE added.
What does he mean?
Isn't he satisfied that the kille of his brother was caught? Even though Henry wasn't the killer....
Why is he digging up in the past? I hate to remember that night, it keeps haunting me, until now.
He let go of my hands and smiled at me so I just smiled back at him, even I am feeling this feeling isndie of me, the feeling of being guilty for something that you've done.
"Where were we again Mr Holland?" he asks to Mr Holland. "Oh yeha right." Mr Holland said and he wlak towards his deask to open his drawer and get a file inside. "Here is your schedule." He said and Jake get the file from the prinicpal's hands. "Thanks." He said and put the files inside his bag.
"Oh before I forgot." Jake turned around and get something on his bag and gave it to me.
A simple brown box.
"What is it?" I ask while looking at the box from his hands. "A shoes. There are a lot of shoes in Thailand and I heard from Mr. Holland that you are the team captain of the basketball. So I bought you one, to say thank you for caring for my brother, even to his death you are by his side." He said. "Just accept it, I use a lot of baht to spend in just to give you this shoes." He added and force me to accept his gift.
Poor Jake, if only you knew that I wasn't caring for Chase, if only you know that I am killing him, not helping him, maybe you'd realize that I am not the right person for me to have this shoes.
"Open it up." He said and wait for me to open the box and look at it. So because of no having choice, I opened it and I was amazed on what I saw, but at the same time surprise...
This is the exact shoes that....
That Chase is wearing when I killed him.... No when I hit him.
"The shoes is maybe a 3 years old since I am planning to give this to you when I come home 2 years ago, but I have no time since my brother died, but it is not an outdated shoes, actually, this is the best selling shoes in Thailand, where I live.
Wait, what?
He went home 2 years ago? But why did I not see him? Why does no one knows about it?
"Thanks, I appreaciate it at all, but next time, if you want to thank me for me caring about your brother, just treating me a meal is better than giving me these expensive stuff that I cannot afford to give you an exchange gift." I said but still keep the shoes, since he said that it is expensive, I would keep it, duh, this is my first time having a shoes from Thailand, so accept it even if you are unsure about the giver.
He then smiles and chuckled.
"By the way Jackson, I have talk to Mr. holland about you, he said that because of you, tutoring my brother, his grade risen up... So I have decided if you wanted to do the same thing to me, since I am not really good at English and that I almost grew up in Thailand which the language that we used aren't really English." He said.
And I couldn't believe what I just heard.
