Prologue
"Miss Rodriguez, your father is summoning you to the office,"
His secretary later on left the room, giving no clues for me at all. Why am I being summoned?
"Where are you going?" Jenny placed her cup of coffee in my table.
She sat down, feeling herself so free and comfortable. This is my workplace, well of course, she'd be comfortable.
"Dad summoned me in his office," I answered.
"Is that so? Do you know why?" she drank her coffee.
I just shrugged. "Well, I have no idea at all, it's kind of bugging me 'cause if there are some errors on my projects, I won't forgive myself." I said.
I was about to pick up my phone which is placed on the swivel chair, but then, I saw a familiar cream shoulder bag in the corner of the shelf in the corner.
I didn't focus on it and completely ignored it, I picked my phone up before going out of the room.
"By the way, Lily, don't take so long and resolve the problems you're facing, alright? We'll be meeting some clients outside company," she said.
I just nodded. "Alright, wait for me." I bleated before closing the door.
I wonder what errors are in my plan. Are there any complains from clients? I thought I've dealt with every suggestions they want to add up.
These clients, argh.
I knocked on the door for consecutive times to let my father know that I'm already here before entering the office.
"What is it that you wanted to talk, Dad?" I asked after entering the room.
"Go sit, Lily," he gestured his hand over the chair in front of his table.
I followed him up and sat upon the chair. I was playing with my fingers underneath the table.
He went to his side table to get some papers in it. I gulped because I feel like I'm about to face a big thing.
He sat upon his swivel chair and looked straight to my eyes.
"Dad, if what we're about to discuss has something to do with the clients' complains, I'm very sure I can handle it well-"
"It isn't about complains from the clients. I didn't summon you because you did something wrong or anything that is noticeable. I summoned you to tell you I would like you to take care of something for me," he explained.
He handed me a folder which contains some papers. I took it and immediately checked what is inside.
"I need you to handle a request from our client," he smiled. "That folder contains the client's request, the address of the said place he wants to build his shop with," he pointed out the folder I'm holding.
The Evidago Island
It's like my knees started wobbling after I read what's written on the paper.
"Are you sure you're trusting me with this one, Dad?" I asked.
He grinned while holding my other hand placed on the table. "Of course, I know you can do it. You already tied with me as the best engineer in the world," he joked.
I took another look on the paper. It's actually written in the paper. Well, at least, I can say that I'm not just imagining things and such out of nowhere.
"I'm sure that aside from being the best engineer, you can also suit with being a great persuader as a person in general if you try, right?" he grinned.
As much as I want to decline this, I can't. My father has high hopes for me. I just can't afford to disappoint him.
I know I already let him down when I ran after Jackson. I never took his advice and just eventually proceed to what I taught myself I'd do since the start.
"Alright," I said. "I'll take it if you tell me why we need to take this deal.." I added.
He beamed another smile and he eventually made his palm ran over his head.
"Just needed, they're a family friend of our family, they moved to other country for some adjustments on their company branch over the area. I don't want to embarrass our company's name so I appointed you to take care of this project, please make this deal work," he explained.
I just sighed out of my internal frustration. Why do they want to build a shop over that island?
"So, you're taking it, right? I put my whole trust in you," he stated.
I gulped. "How about Jenny, Dad? Jenny is doing great too as your employee, why not give this project to her-"
"The client is a family friend, I can't just give this project to anyone." he cuts me off.
"But Jenny is my friend, and you know she's doing great too-" for the second time I was interrupted again.
"So, you're taking this project down?" his mood changed in no time. His smile collapsed and his serious face appeared.
I didn't answer for a bit. He stood up from his swivel chair and put a hand over his forehead. I can see the disappointment in his face. He let a heavy sigh out.
A knock on the door caught our attentions.
"Mr. Rodriguez, there's a call in the administration office and they need you there for guidance. There are two consecutive big projects coming on the way," his secretary said.
"I'm coming," he said. He took his coat with him and placed it in his left arm.
He's about to leave the room yet I made sure I catch his attention.
"Dad," I called.
He glanced at me. "Hmm?" he hummed.
"I'm taking the project, don't think too much," I uttered. He smiled at me before leaving the room and completely closing the door.
If there are two upcoming big projects, I'm sure he'll be busy, I don't want him to bother him too much. I'll take over this one at least.
I took the folder and immediately left Dad's office.
Alright, Lily. You'll do good, okay? You got this.
"Why did you take the project again?" she asked. She bit her cheeseburger and chews it.
"To lessen things which Dad worries about," I replied. "I'm also thinking of starting in any day this week," I said.
She nodded before sipping from her cup of soda. "Didn't you accept this project because you want to? Aren't you doing this for yourself, now that you're being excited to even start it-"
"Shut up, Jenny. It's not like I want to do it, I just need to. I also am not being excited over the thought, I just think that it'll end soon when I start soon.."
"Sure," she teased. She smirked out of nowhere to tease me more all of a sudden.
"But that's what you're pertaining to," I murmured.
I sliced the steak on my plate and eventually ate a piece of it. Thoughts abruptly messed my mind up.
After a few, we end up leaving the restaurant and we're on our way back to the company building.
"Stop bothering yourself with that project too much," she said. She pats my back.
I let a heavy sigh out. This is actually stressing me out. For real.
"How about I go with you?" she grinned. "Oh wait, I can't go when you're the only one assigned over that project, you know-" she added yet she's interrupted.
"That's right, you should come with me instead," I said in agreement with what she brought up. "I'll bring this up to dad right away, he'd eventually agree to it, knowing I'm just asking for a favor from doing this one." I uttered.
"Okay, so when do we go there?" she beamed a smile.
"Seems like you're the one who's excited over going there," I said sarcastically.
She let some chuckles out. "Well, seems like it," she joked.
"Maybe tomorrow or the next day. I still need to polish my other projects in an instant, so I won't leave anything hanging. You should organize your projects too, so we can just hand it to Dad." I articulated.
"I already finished my projects, I just need to hand Mr. Rodriguez a report to the issuance of the materials to start my last project for this month." she replied.
"Good, then I might finish things overnight, so we can already start tomorrow." I said.
She let some giggles out afterwards. I just didn't mind it.
We then parted ways since her workplace is on the eastern wing of this building.
I started compiling some folders which contain finished files of projects. I placed the unnecessary papers on the brown envelope before starting the unfinished project I have.
It's already early in the morning when I finished things up. I left my workplace bringing this papers to Dad's office.
After placing it on his table. I talked to him about bringing Jenny with me for the project he wants me to take care of. He agreed as what I expected.
I went my way home to pack things up through my luggage. I suddenly remembered something with this luggage.
If I didn't forget this thing that time. Things wouldn't turn out this way, I wouldn't have to deal with these thoughts.
I didn't mind what is fishing around my mind totally and just packed my things up.
I went to the company to fetch Jennie up and coincidentally, she's just walking her way towards the building. I immediately ran after her.
"Hey, let's go," I got a grip on her wrist.
"Where?" she asked confusingly. It's like she has no idea at all, though, we already talked about these yesterday.
"The Evidago Island," I answered.
She let a chuckle from her mouth out. "You must be kidding me, Lily. There's no way we could go there today. I think the next trip to that island is next week." she confidently said.
"Just trust me, we can," I murmured.
I pulled her over the road to get some cab to ride, I can't go with my car, knowing, I'll be spending a week or a month, or whatever.
"I didn't prepare any clothes, Lily.."
"I got you, I packed like 20 pairs of clothes," I countered what she said. "And I'm sure we can buy more from the island." I added of.
"O-okay.."
We rode the cab and went to the ferry station. "Are you sure about this?" she asked.
"Of course," I said while pulling her inside a ferry.
I just know that today's the market day of the employees who are working on that island.
And I'm sure that this ferry is it.
I looked upon my watch and they just have few more minutes if I'm comparing it to the usual time they're spending four years ago when I went with that guy who I think I hurt big time with what I've done four years ago.
"Miss, I think I know you.."
I was startled when a girl talked to me all of a sudden. "M-me?" I stuttered.
"Yes," she nodded. "Aren't you the girl who's with Sir Jungkook that time when I talked to you.." she explained.
My knees feel like wobbling when I heard his name for the first time in the last four years.
Wait, is she that girl who talked to me, when I asked about the others who're still not in the ferry?
"Oh wait, I remember you.. I'm sorry for not recognizing you earlier." I apologized.
She gestured her hands. "No, it's okay, I think I really am just aging a lot so fast. That's why.." she said. "But may I know why you're here?" she asked.
"Uh- I know the next trip for the guests will be next week but I can't afford to lose that much time. I'm actually with my friend, we have some business to deal with.." I said.
"Oh, is that so? Good luck.." the old lady said. "I need to go back to my seat, nice to meet you.. Again." she added of.
I just bowed. I looked upon Jennie and she's asleep.
A few moment passed and the employees started getting inside the ferry, I just know that the employees who're taking this ferry isn't that much, so I think, we can just sit with them and take this trip.
"We'll start travelling back to the island," the announcer said.
The ferry started moving and traveled through the water. I kind of asking myself if I'm ready or not, yet I know that I have no choice.
It'll gonna take a little longer. I'm sure I can take a nap. I closed my eyes in no time, feeling my heavy eyelids taking me to sleep.
"We're here, please take your belongings,"
I took my luggage and wake Jennie up by tapping her on her shoulder.
The employees started getting themselves off the ferry. We stood up when a lot of them already got off.
"Sir.. We're surprised to see you here." an employee said.
While getting off the ferry, I supported Jenny's back 'cause she feels like falling off.
"I'm just checking upon my employees," a familiar baritone voice said.
My knees started wobbling intensely when I heard his voice. I feel like my heart's throbbing out of its place.
We completely got off the ferry and my sight went to where his voice is coming from. I saw his body which seems that he worked for, his muscles seemed to get a little more defined compared to the last time I saw him. Four years, yeah he'd definitely change, that's quite a long time.
He's smiling while having fun talking with the employees.
But it seems like his facial expressions changed when our eyes met. From his happy mood, he went to a darker serious mood.
He didn't greet me. Which is expected. He's just looking at me straight into my eyes with blank emotions found in it.
From me, I traced his sight went to my luggage. He unusually grinned and looked away for a moment.
"What brings you here?" he asked sarcastically.
I couldn't answer. Words from my mouth suddenly disappeared.
"It's good you didn't forget your luggage this time," he said. I can feel like it's a joke with a meaning from behind.
A cold breeze started hitting up my body, this air seemed strange to me now. While looking at him, I can feel my heart breaking.
Am I even allowed to step in this island after hurting him?
And leaving him behind without giving any valid reason?
"Let's go," he said to the employees and faced the other direction before walking.
I am sorry. Deeply.
They followed him up and walked with him while bursting their laughs out.
Right now, all I want to do is ride the ferry back to the main ferry station. I can't seem to face him.
But I'm here for business. The business brought me here and I'm only doing some sort of things in here because of this project. No feelings involved, just pure business.
