The next morning…
Joon stepped out of his room, rubbing his eyes as he walked toward the kitchen. The smell of toasted bread and fried eggs filled the air, instantly making him hungry.
His grandmother was busy preparing breakfast.
“Good morning, Joon,” she greeted, pouring warm tea into a cup.
“Morning, Grandma. That smells amazing… it’s making me starving already. Can I eat now?” Joon sat down, grabbing his fork and spoon eagerly.
“Of course. Let’s eat together.”
“Are you baking something again?” Joon asked while chewing.
“So you noticed the smell,” she said with a smile. “I’m making banana cake for Sera. It’ll be ready soon.”
“I’ll deliver it,” Joon said quickly, finishing the last bite of his egg.
“Yes, you already said that yesterday,” his grandmother replied, shaking her head with a small smile.
After breakfast, Joon went back to his room and grabbed his phone. He quickly typed a message.
HEY SERA, IT’S ME JOON. WILL YOU BE HOME THIS AFTERNOON?
He stared at the screen, waiting.
A few minutes later, a reply came in.
HEY JOON, I’LL BE HOME ALL DAY. THIS AFTERNOON IS FINE—COME OVER.
Joon immediately grinned and typed back.
OKAY, I’LL COME.
“Yes… hurry up and be afternoon already,” he muttered excitedly, throwing himself onto the bed with a wide smile.
“Joon, you’re going back to Seoul the day after tomorrow, right?” his grandmother asked from outside.
“Yeah. A busy schedule is waiting.”
“I have to go to the hospital today.”
Joon sat up immediately. “Are you sick?”
“No, it’s just a routine check-up. After that, I’ll stay overnight at a hotel. There’s a gathering with other seniors.”
“Oh… you scared me for a second,” he said, letting out a relieved sigh.
“I’ll be back tomorrow as soon as possible.”
“Don’t worry, Grandma. I can take care of myself. It’s just one night.”
“That’s exactly what worries me. You tend to accidentally break things in this house.”
“I’m not that bad anymore! I’ve gotten rid of that habit.”
His grandmother gave him a doubtful look—but she couldn’t argue. He was her beloved, slightly destructive grandson.
“Alright, I trust you. Take care of the house. I’ve put the cake for Sera on the dining table—just bring it to her.”
Joon nodded obediently.
“Oh, the taxi is here. I’ll go now. Don’t forget to send my regards to Sera.”
She hugged him briefly before leaving. Joon walked her to the door and watched as she left.
He checked his watch.
“Almost afternoon… I should get ready.”
In front of Sera’s cabin…
Joon wore a black sweater, a cap, and a mask. In his hand, he carried a box containing the banana cake.
He knocked.
The door opened.
And for a moment—
Everything stopped.
What is this feeling…? his heart pounded. Why does my chest feel so tight…?
Sera stood there, simple as always—wavy black hair, bare face, natural and soft. Today she wore a black cropped sweater and denim shorts.
And yet…
Joon felt completely drawn to her.
