Fizzie returned to the cemetery but found nothing. He stayed in his hidden spot for several hours but felt nothing, heard nothing, smelled nothing. Well, nothing pertaining to the void.
He did hear several opossums, raccoons and owls. Yes, more owls. But nothing out of the ordinary. He decided he was there long enough and stood on top of the monastery to stretch. He flitted his wings to get the cramps out. He wasn’t a young Fae anymore. The years were catching up and he could feel it in his bones. Flying from one stone to the next he went to the area where the void last stood. Nothing out of the ordinary. No reason he could see or feel for anything to be attracted to the area. He turned and noticed a movement from the corner of his eye. Hiding behind a large obelisk and peaked around. He watched two people walk into the clearing just outside of the gated entrance to the cemetery. They weren’t quiet. Had to be teenagers. Probably making their way to the “haunted cemetery” for an adrenaline rush. The place wasn’t haunted but the kids these days used any excuse to scare the life out of their friends. The rumor of this cemetery started hundreds of years ago to keep the kids away from the stones so the mortuary didn’t have to make repairs or clean up after them. And now it is folklore and exciting. Today’s kids come out here for the rush, a dare, a makeout spot. Fizzy waited for the two in the clearing to leave. Although Landsend Port was a city full of monsters, this cemetery supported most towns in the surrounding area. So accessible by those cities and the folklore bled over to those towns too. Fizzy couldn’t feel any fae magic coming from these two so he surmised they were human. He knew it would be best not to frighten them so he remained hidden. The last thing he wanted was to scare two kids. Just because the monsters have been here longer then the humans, the world was still oblivious to their existence. They were stories, movies, imaginations. Who was he to change their perception. His people were safer living in the shadows. Once they headed back out towards the road, Fizzy hovered a bit longer, just to make sure the void wasn’t returning and the kids were truly gone. He headed out thinking about what he was going to do next. He knew he would have to speak with Paul. He wondered if Paul would be awake or if he needed to wait. ‘Humans are so fragile.’ Fizzy mumbled as he buzzed down the road. Hitting main street and turning at the bakery, Fizzy noticed a figure near the front of Town Hall. He stopped, slipping into the shadow of the entryway to the bakery and watched the figure float at the steps. The tall figure did not move. Dark, rather slender with no facial figures he could see from this distance. He guessed it was a vampire, but who. He knew all the vampires in Landsend and some of the ones that don’t. Trying to feel the being, he was blocked instantly. And knew… he had been discovered. The vamp could not “see” him, Fizzy wasn’t dumb. Although he was felt when he attempted to read the vamp, he instantly put up a block to where no one could sense. Sitting in the dark, visibly no one would see him. His small frame would blend seamlessly in the dark space. He couldn’t help but feel like he was being stared straight through. ‘Snap out of it Fiz, no one knows you’re here.’ he muttered without a voice. The figure moved down the steps and off the western side of the square. Watching it move, Fizzy moved out of the doorway a bit to get a better look. The figure was turned away from him and moving off towards the direction he wanted to go. So many vampire families ‘live’ up that street. It could be any one of them. But why so mysterious? That is what Fizzy was trying to figure out. No reason, the city is free to everyone at any time. But he supposed this person wasn’t really hiding. They were in the center of town, out in the open. Vamps don’t normally come out in the day and for the most part the town buildings are closed at this hour. ‘Had to be a new vamp.’ Fizzy thought. But how would there be anyone new in this town without him knowing? There isn’t, couldn’t be. Fizzy flew to the tree in the center of the square and hid for cover. He peaked around. The vamp was gone up the road. He didn’t know why he was so nervous. Must have been from seeing the void. He came out from around the tree and swept his clothing like they were dirty. Flying in the direction he was headed to begin, he passed several allies and empty buildings. “Fizzy.” came a voice that only he could hear. A voice in his head. But, how? “Fizzy.” He heard it again. Clear as day in his own head. He stopped confused. No one in this world could mind speak with him. No one, but…
“No.” He said quietly. “No” he shook his head and flew as fast as he could. The sun was coming up behind him. He knew if she was close enough to mind speak him then she was too close for his comfort. What was she doing in the states? 400 years and she had yet to seek him out. Why now? He flew up main street and headed to the historical homes. He was pointing towards one home in general. One he knew better than the rest.
“Fizzard McFadden.” He heard it again. It was a woman’s voice, he thought. He couldn’t tell. He was frantic. He had to hide. Just because she could mind speak him doesn’t mean she can locate him. He used a blocking spell. One he learned hundreds of years ago, when he was a younger fae. Still flying frantically he headed around the back of the house and to the porch he and Paul stood at a few days ago. The home was quiet, he could sense some movement. And, more humans?
Oh no! He thought. ‘Those’ humans! At least he knew she wouldn’t come to this side of town the Van Helsings in the area. He couldn’t collect his thoughts. Everything was overwhelming. He found the small home that Bethany had set up for him near the greenhouse and climbed in. He would be safe there. For now. Closing the door behind him, he went to the small bed in the corner. It was a long night. He needed sleep. He will search Paul out after some rest. Crawling under the blankets he settled in. Bethany took care of him, of all of her family. Each being that went through her doors was considered family. She was the oddest Vampire he had ever met. She was home to him. Thinking of his best friend, he slipped into a dreamless sleep.
