New Beginnings

Cayden still didn’t think any of it was fair. He kept it to himself. ‘Doesn’t matter anyway.’ He mumbled to himself as he shoved his books into his locker and slammed the door shut. Day two out of the way. Still a bust. He slung his backpack around his arm and headed for the exit. Out the door and down the steps he slid. The wind and chill caught him unexpectedly. Pulling his hoodie over his head, he looked at the bus loading area. ‘Nope, not today.’ He thought to himself. No way was he riding a bus full of the snooty kids, he had enough of that the first day of school going home. For two days, not one nice person presented themselves to him. They were all spoiled upper class snots and he wasn’t having any of it. As per usual, he kept to himself. And getting home wasn’t going to be any different. He only lived a few miles out of town and on the same road the school was on. He decided a walk would do him good. Help him clear his mind, calm down a bit before he gets to the house. So, he looked up the street, pulled his hoodie close to him and started walking. The town was beautiful. No doubt about that. Old homes in amazing condition. Cayden didn’t think any of them had less than eight bedrooms. They were huge! Large yards, most hidden from the road by brush and overgrowth. Like, they wanted to keep prying eyes out. He didn’t blame them. For the most part the entire town was some sort of mystical or mythical creature. Of course, he couldn’t be sure. After hundreds of years, there had to have been a human or two come through and think the place was breathtaking and decide to live here. Nothing keeps them from doing it. No sign that said ‘This is where monsters go to hide, KEEP OUT!’ Somewhere in history there could have been two people that fell in love and moved here. One a monster the other loved that monster. It isn’t unheard of. Lycan were known to take human mates. Without having to compel them to stay! The outside of town was just as well maintained as the inside. Roads were narrow as most small city roads were. The Ivies trailed up the sides of gates and electric poles. Trees overhung the road in places giving every mile an eerie feeling. Although the season is coming and Autumn colors can be seen, the green is still vivid and full of life. No highways through Landsend Port. One road in and one road out. Of course the Port was another story. Always bustling. There was a cannery down there for the day's haul. The big haul was fresh lobster but they dealt in tuna and other high end fish, shrimp, and crab. The fishermen knew where to go to score their catch. Helps that the captains were merpeople and sirens or sea creatures of the sort. Everything about Landsend Port screamed fairytale. Breathtaking and serene. Without the castle. No castles in Landsend Port. A lot of places that looked like they could be with the size and make of the homes. But no one wanted that life. They either escaped or were reestablished here and did not want to be reminded of the places they came from. The cruel rulers that caused their misery. Well, some anyway. Some would love to have a castle but came in later and part of the building standards for the area strictly forbid castle homes.
