I watched our mate slowly relax in the bed. She wasn't awake yet, but at least it seemed the pain was easing. Internally, my flame swirled, and I felt its fear clawing at my insides. I know. What do you want me to do about it? I asked silently, and it surged for a moment. I wanted to roll my eyes. We couldn't help her with fire. Its solution to everything was to burn something.
