Part 2 chapter 3

1070 Words
Days went by and school got worse. Other kids would join in on the bullying but still, Jason hadn't forgotten about the comeback, and I still couldn't figure out why he took such an offence to it, it's not my fault if bullies can't make friends. I feel like something bad was going to happen but didn't bother to look into it besides it’s probably nothing. Every time someone would push or trip me in the halls I had to run to the washroom to hide my eyes because if the whole school knew it would end me, and besides how would Star be treated after it? It was now Saturday and 3 days until my birthday but I didn't feel happy. Mostly because my birthday is on a school day and the fact that my birthday weekend I have to go outside. I ignored the fact the Jason and Devon probably live around here but the thought of them finding us was still there, no matter how hard I tried to get it out of my mind, it was always there, just like my demon. I didn't want to go outside but at the same time, while we explore the alleyways, Star and I always end up finding a good amount of raspberries, apples, and cherries.  “Come on Emma! I know you're scared but maybe doing what scares you will lower that fright!” Star said cheerfully.  “Ok maybe,” I mumble to her. We sit in silence on our beds now until we see a tiny rock fly through our open window followed by soft laughter. We look out the window to see our friends.  “Yay! come on Emma!” Star said running out of the room. I look back at our friends as my smile fades,  “I hope they don't find us…” I mumble. I look directly at Star as she bursts out of the house. “O-ok I’ll come down,” I say ignoring the thought.  Once out of the house we start walking and we talk about what we could do for my birthday. “Come on guys. You don't need to do anything for me and Star.” they all stopped and looked at me and Star. “what did I say something wrong?” I ask.  “Are you guys twins?” Maddie asked.  “No we just were born on the same day but different years. It can get really confusing but it’s really cool!”  “Cool!” Ava and Cassie say. We all laugh at their timing and continue to walk. We all hang out in the field catching up on homework and just talking. Later into the walk, it was time for the others to go, and at this point, I have forgotten all about Jason and Devon. “Ok see you guys!” Star called out. She smiled at me and started running into the alleyways. I ran after her. We went to different directions and searched for different fruit after I gave her a plastic bag, I always keep some in my bookbag. I darted around a corner and found a new raspberry bush and started picking them. While I kept searching I found some apples but ignored them because the tree was too tall to get any. I didn't want to risk going into my demon form just to get them. After almost filling my bag halfway with cherries and raspberries I began to notice it was silent. I stop and listen to any sound I could hear, I could hear birds chirping and cats meowing in a distance but the one thing I wanted to hear is the one thing that wasn't making a noise. “No,” I mumbled to myself. “Why can't I hear Star, why can't I hear her! she was supposed to call out my name every 5 minutes.” I say panicked. Some may say I'm overprotective, but I have my reasons, and those reasons involve Star and whom I fear might have found her. “Starene!?” I yell. I put the bag of fruits in my bookbag not caring about how I crushed half the berries. I rushed around hoping I could find Star. after minutes of silence, I finally hear Star call out my name. Once I followed the noise I could hear two familiar voices. When I rushed around the last corner my heart stopped. Devon had Star pinned on a corner while Jason was nowhere to be seen. Suddenly I am struck from the back with what seemed like a metal pole. I collapsed onto the ground winded and weak.  Keeping most of the demon controlled I stand up and punch Jason forcing myself up. My eyes glowed a dark red and slowly fading to black. The blow to the ribs winded him and he fell to the ground gasping for air. I look Devon in the eyes enough for him to look back. He caught my glance and froze “Get away from her.” I say, a dark psychotic voice replacing mine. Devon hesitates but backs away from her. “Come on Star,” I say grabbing her hand.  We start walking away from the boys but stopped when Ava comes running around the corner. “I heard screaming! what's happening?! Is someone hurt?” Star and I stand there in silence waiting for ava to look around. “Yay you're ok!” she says looking at Star. “I heard you yell Star’s name on my way back. I am allowed to stay outside longer too, and when I heard you yell, I thought you were hurt…” Ava rambles.  “Ok, ok just slow down my head hurts,” I say sitting down. Why does my head hurt…  “Hey, Emma what's with your eyes?” Ava asked crouching down for me with a not to peaceful look.  “I-i umm…” I try and say what, but I couldn't get the words out I couldn't tell her, not yet. “It just happens when I'm mad. let's go.” I finish brushing myself off. I force my eyes normal and I realized that it was a stupid idea to do so as she got curious and asked more questions until Star told her to stop and give me some room. “Well… I'm glad you can stay out longer but Star and I should get home.” I say starting to walk off. “I know I should…” My eyes flicker black and I shake my head. “But!” I turn to face them seeing Star with a semi sad look. “I'm sure Star doesn't need to head home yet.” I smile and walk off leaving them confused and most likely concerned.
