LIFE AS A TRADER
‎ He stood all alone next to the old grey lorries, which were leaning almost directly to each other. ‎ He was not sure if he was in the right place or not. He wandered around the pre-cast concrete tiled road as I watched closely from the other end. ‎ Suddenly, a black Model of Bayerische Motoren Werke, also known as a BMW, car stopped by. A young Slender Lady with long braided corn rows and a long Black flade gown with designs of glitters on it, hopped out of the Luxurious car.She was wearing a Dark shade of sunglasses, her looks were Elegant and unique from the common feminine looks, from people of middle class. She positioned the glasses half way with her index finger revealing her pink newly fixed Artificial nails about 0.5 inches in length, just past her fingertips, to the middle of her nose contour and smirked. The young guy who had been wandering at a gentle pace, walked up to her and they both entered the car with their guards, who drove them to their destination. ‎‎I stood watching them in great admiration. At first the whole scene seemed weird until I realized the young guy who was about 6 foot tall, just as I was, was a Son to the Slender, Younger, Brown Lady. They had this wealthy Aura like people from the West that I had always dreamed of. A luxurious life, a Life Of me being a son of wealthy parents, the one Famously referred to as "Nepotism" ‎ ‎ There was something about Nepotism which I couldn't really Expatiate. That feeling of you having everything completely in the world. Extreme wealth, divert cars, Several mansions and penthouses, above all eating a variety of Foods which taste absolutely scrumptious. ‎ However, not everyone gets to live such a beautiful life full of Roses, those sumptuous Standards of living, those were lives for the Nepos, the Affluent, the Renowned. ‎ I had no wealthy Friends though, the most wealthy individuals I knew were on the Internet. Seeing a really opulent, Patrician, made me feel less of myself. ‎ He probably had everything he wanted, Many Gentry friends like him and Numerous girls who want filthy rich kids of his prime. I was still in my thoughts when Kristy walked up to me wearing a weary face. "Edison!" Kristy called from the other end where she had gone to trade with a bucket on her hand, and a small piece of Fabric Material which she usually rolled in a bun and placed on her head to balance the huge bucket containing soft drinks, she held on her left hand, for the fact that she was a South pole. I walked up to her and she looked extremely exhausted and disappointed. “What were you doing here alone?. she asked in a low tone but quite aggressively. She wasn't expecting me to tell her the truth was she?. How was I supposed to tell her I was admiring those wealthy kids again? I had always prayed to meet one of those Patricians but not just for admiration alone, but to see if any of them would notice me. “I was taking a short Rest." I managed to say, turning my face to the other view so she wouldn't ask further questions. This time, she snapped then walked away in annoyance, giving a sarcastic gaze, while bringing her eyes up and down in the form of a fast blinking, then hissed and walked away, like she never knew me. Kristy was my twin sister, we both hawk Soft drinks on the streets together, for our single mother. She and I planned to compete on who would sell all the drinks before the other. Yet, I had lost my attention on those unknown individuals. She was older with just Five minutes, but Kristy wanted the respect of Ten years age difference. "Come on Kristy,... you don't have to be mad!..." I yelled running after her. she didn't wait nor spoke, but kept walking at a fast pace that I couldn't catch up with her. Her bucket of soft drinks were nearly emptied compared to mine, still I wasn't worried acknowledging the fact that I could use my friendly gestures to sell out mine. ............ That evening, we both went home separately and we were both able to sell the drinks completely. I Met My mom in the backyard Joining each wooden piece of firewoods together, on the four clay and block like stones, which were serving as a support against wind and for balancing pots for cooking, while certain smoke oozed out from it and the flames of the fire were in form of incomplete combustion, radiating a bright Orange Yellow and Gold colours. "Nne Nnon!" I spoke in igbo, telling her well done. She rose up from the place she had been scouting, near the burning fire wood. Her eyes were filled with smokes, partly watery and partly reddish. "How are you doing Dim?" she asked, addressing me as “My Love" like she usually called everyone of us. I walked up to her, watching as she tied back her half loose wrapper. while we stood close, she seemed to appear like a younger sister due to our height differences, though she was of Average Height "I am fine!". I said smiling as she patted my back. We both walked away, from the tiny hut-like kitchen, made of woods and old Zincs as a Roof. We discussed about how the soft drinks business had started crumbling, as several Individuals were now into it as well. "Hmmmm.......This is our only hope of survival, dim." Mom said then paused. "The money I had used to get the drinks were borrowed and the people are all requesting for their money back". Mom continued worriedly almost in dismay. She was looking super unhappy deep down her heart, yet she would always wear a bright smile just to make sure her kids weren't worried too. But now, Mom's Feelings were completely Expressed on her Gentle Eyes, and despair looks. I couldn't help but to hold her close, unto me. "Hey mom, I've got a good news". I said Wondering if she would be pleased or not. She was never expecting me to have one. "Really? spill!. what is it about?" . She asked without holding her breath, in a high pitch but with a fast tone, Effortlessly beyond what I had expected. "Yes mama....I saw a Job application of a House Help needed" I muttered while adding "just a few kilometers from our street, it is a really nice place to work." I Explained, wondering what her reactions would seem. "Oh! what then is the Payment?. she asked seemingly interested as I replied quickly and Enthusiastically. "No I haven't gone to apply yet. I needed your Approval first, though it was inscribed in a huge Cardboard paper pinned on the wall, "A HOUSE HELP NEEDED" in the front of the Mansion'. Mom turned to look at me this time while I sat waiting for her further response and reaction. "Edison you are only 16 years of age and soon 17, don't you think you are too young to work as a house help?" she asked this time in a tone that couldn't tell if she was neither going to approve of it, nor decline. I watched her speak while fixing my gaze on the marble cemented floor in the veranda where we were sitting together, on the wooden Bench. "Mom I know that by August I will be turning 17, but that shouldn't stop me from having a part time Job, or regular Job." Believe me Mom, the job isn't that bad. I am not even in Secondary school anymore, so there's no point in me not having such a job." I said Mom nodded walking away as my eyes flinted in fury.
