Betrayal

I glared at Brandon, my hands balled up into fists at my side. I was so angry that I was tempted to swing at him. But his black eyes told me it would do more damage to me than him. How could he become one of them? Did he leave and decide to join the vampires? Was he the one who told the vampires our location? Did he betray us? My head was filled with so many questions that I didn't realize how long I was standing there glaring at him. The doctor behind me cleared his throat. "Is there a problem?" the doctor asked. I knew my behavior towards Brandon seemed suspicious, and I didn't know what to say other than. "I'm just tired." I told the doctor and headed towards Brandon. I shot him another glare as I squeezed past him out the door. I stopped in the hallway, I wanted to keep walking, but I didn't know where to go. I didn't want to look like I was running away, either. I waited as Brandon shut the door and began walking down the hall. I followed slowly behind him, my hands in fists at my sides. I glared at the back of his head in anger. I wanted to yell at him. But knowing about vampires heightened senses, I would be heard by everyone. I didn't want an army of them swarming to me when I started yelling. I decided to say one word. Just one. I doubt no vampire would care if they heard it. "Betrayal." I said as I continued to follow him down the hall. Brandon's steps slowed for a second as he slightly turned his head my way. I thought he was going to say something, but he began walking again. I shook my head and began daydreaming about punching him and telling him off. It wasn't until we entered a dark hallway that I realized we had walked pretty far. I stopped for a moment and looked around. The lights were dim, and I couldn't see anyone but Brandon. "Where are we going?" I asked Brandon kept walking, and I hesitated. Was he taking me somewhere to kill me? I wasn't sure what to do. If I stay here, I might die. If I follow him, I might die. Either way, there is death involved. I started following him again till we entered another stairwell with a supply closet at the bottom. Brandon suddenly swooped in and through his hand over my mouth. He dragged me into the supply closet. I didn't have enough time to react. I figured death was going to happen, so I just closed my eyes and waited for it to be over with. "I'm going to let you go, Lily, but you have to promise not to scream." Brandon whispered softly. I opened my eyes slowly and nodded. Brandon slowly released his grip in me. I looked around at the empty shelves in the closet before looking to him. Brandon stood there with a nervous smile on his face. "Hey Lily." He said, looking shy. His blonde, usually messy hair was slicked back. He was wearing a name brand black T shirt with a white jacket and black dress pants. He looked like Brandon, but his eyes were no longer blue. I think I missed that the most. Brandon was always attractive, and I had a crush on him before he left. Thought I never admitted it to anyone, not even myself until after he disappeared. I cried at the thought he was dead, but here he is. Alive. Sort of, I guess. "Brandon." I sighed. "What did you let them do to you?" Pointing at his eyes. I felt sad. I was never going to see the glow in his eyes ever again. Brandon shook his head and pointed at his eyes. "They're fake." "What?" "They're contacts." I gave him a confused look. Brandon sighed and reached up, touching one of his eyeballs. He removed a black contact lens from his eye, revealing a blue eye from underneath. I sighed, relieved that he wasn't a vampire. But why was he here? How? Did he still betray us? My mouth hung open. I wasn't sure where to start. " I know you have a lot of questions. But we don't have a lot of time." He said as he placed the contact back in as he began rambling off answers. "Yes, I'm still human. I'm here as a spy for another Sanctuary. They know a lot more than the one I left. I didn't want to leave you and Tyler, but vampires captured me, but this new Sanctuary saved me. They are amazing. But more on that later." Brandon paused, taking a chance to breathe. "I'm sorry you're here, Lily. Do what you can to get yourself by. I will get you out of here. Just go along with everything, including the auction. The less you know, the better. I dont have time to answer questions right now, and Im sorry for that. But you're going to have to trust me." He finished staring at me for a moment. I stared back him going over everything he said in my head. He's going to get me out of here, really stuck with me. Was there hope again? I wanted to ask questions, but he said we didn't have the time. I could see he was getting antsy, but I couldn't find it in my to move or speak. "Please trust me, Lily. I'm risking everything just by speaking with you." He said quickly, begging me to believe him. I sighed and nodded my head yes. I was unsatisfied. I still had questions I wanted answers to, but I was too tired to argue. This whole day has been exhausting. Brandon whispered a small thank you and led me back out the door. Brandon led me back to the main building. The only reason I knew that was because all of the lights were on. He took me to a large room filled with single beds. There were no windows, and the floor was gray concrete, which matched the concrete walls. There was a female guard standing near the door. She gave Brandon a smile as we approached. "I was wondering where the last girl was." She said to Brandon in a British accent as she handed me white folded sheets, a blanket, and a pillow. Brandon gave her some excuse about how I had low iron and needed an iron transfusion. She seemed to accept that answer as she waved me through the door. As I passed through, I turned my head to look at Brandon on more time. He nodded his head at me and continued to talk to the vampire. All the girls inside were just as quiet as before. Some were whispering to each other. I looked for an empty bed when I saw Jasmine waving me down her brown curls bouncing. She was a breath of fresh air in this place. I think I was going to like her. I gave her a weak smile and approached her. "There you are. I was worried you ran off or something." She said, grabbing my sheets and blankets from me."I saved you a bed next to mine.I could use someone to talk to in a place like this." Jasmine began making up my bed next to hers. I couldn't help but smile at her. She was a good person. She finished making my bed and gestured for me to sit down. I sat down on the edge of it, feeling myself sink into the cushioning. I didn't have a real bed at the Sanctuary. It was a spot on the floor surrounded by blankets. I really wanted to just lay down on the mattress and shut my eyes. I didn't want to be rude to Jasmine, though. Then I saw Jess from across the room sitting alone. She was pale and crying silently to herself. I looked to Jasmine and back to Jess. "I have to go check on Jess over there. Do you want to come with me?" I asked, not wanting to leave her out. Jasmine looked to where I was looking and must've noticed the girl sitting alone. "No, I'm good, sugar.Ill be here." Jasmine said as she opened up a book to read. I walked over to Jess, who was still crying and holding herself. "Jess? What's wrong?" I asked her, sitting next to her. She opened her mouth, but no words came out. I was worried she was bitten by a vampire or touched by one. I gave her time to talk, though. Finally, she whispered to me. "I..I was pregnant, Lily. With John." She began rocking back and forth. "Oh my god, Jess, when did... Wait. Was?" I was about to congratulate her forgetting about John being dead, then realizing she said was. She nodded, tears streaming down her eyes, and then she looked at me her eyes that were once bright were now hazy. The whites of her eyes were bloodshot from exhaustion and tears. Her bottom lip quivered as she said, "They just aborted my baby."
