Doctors

Between breakfast and the relaxing soap, we were sleepy. I knew the vampires were doing it on purpose. So we would be too tired to argue or run on our first day. Before leaving the dining room, something caught my attention. A clock. To most people, it wouldn't be such an exciting thing. But I haven't seen one in years. After being out in the desert, most of the watches broke. We only knew how long we had been out there because the Council kept a tally board of how many days had passed. I had paid attention to it for a long time. It was after the second year that I stopped paying attention. The clock was just a simple round clock. The big hand pointed to the 12, and the small hand pointed to the 9. It was only 9 am. The red-haired vampire appeared again with her creepy smile. She clapped her hands together twice, signaling for us to follow. My group, who was lined up against the wall, began following her. I sighed softly, giving the clock a final look. Out of the corner of my eye, I saw the red hair vampire hesitate when she saw me not moving. I was too tired to protest against them. I sighed again and turned to follow the group. The redheaded vampire smiled directly at me. I didn't return that smile. I don't think she expected me to. She led the group up 4 flights of stairs. Another tactic to tire us out. Though running through sand for years really works out your core. I barely broke a sweat from it. We were led to a room with a large table and a television in front of the room. Jasmine had already warned me about watching a video. We took our seats at the table as the red-headed vampire took her place in front of the room. "I hope you all are feeling better after showering and eating." She said, keeping her smile plastered on her face. "My name is Angelica. I am here to teach you girls how to behave for your Masters after the auction." I wanted to spit at her. Master? They called themselves our masters? Ridiculous. "But first, has anyone heard of the great Calus Alcaraz?" Angelica asked, looking around the room. None of us raised our hands. We have been isolated from the vampires before we heard the name. I remember hearing the bald vampire who killed Tyler mention a Calus, but I wasn't about to raise my hand. "Calus Alcaraz is our King. I have a video from him so you can all meet him." She said as she used the remote to click a button starting the TV. A man appeared on the screen with long white blonde hair and pitch-black eyes. He had absolutely no blemishes on his face. He could've been a porcelain doll. He smiled with his teeth and spoke with an accent "Welcome home beauties," he chuckled in a way that made my face twist up into a disgusted look as he continued to speak." We hope you will be so happy here. I am Calus Alcaraz. Your king. Your time here under The Capitals' care will be quick and painless. I can't make any promises for after you leave." he chuckled again. "And remember, the quicker you give in to our ways, the happier you will be. I wish you well, my beauties." The way Calus Alcaraz spoke twisted my stomach into knots. Just hours ago, I was angry because the Council wanted me to pick a husband and have babies. Now, I'm expected to behave long enough to be sold to a vampire that will kill me. The room was so quiet you could hear a pin drop. I looked at the faces around me. They all read the same look, hopeless. Of course they were, what could a group of humans do against a building of vampires. If you run, you'll die. If you stay, you'll die. They only options we had were death. Angelica stood back up front with her evil grin. She went on with her lessons, making the knots in my stomach even tighter. Especially when she talked about s*x. Some of their kind prefer extra pleasures while feeding from their human. I zoned out after that point, I just couldn't bear to hear it. Finally, the lessons were over with, and we cleared the room. We were silent as we followed Angelica down the hall. We even moved slower, so she had to slow down her pace. The only sound was her heels clicking down the hallway. Angelica led us to a hallway with open doors on each side. She directed each of us to enter a room alone. When it came to me, she pointed at the room on her right. I walked in slowly, giving myself the reminder that they won't hurt me. I'm apparently worth a lot. The room was a small doctors office. There was a scale, a blood pressure cuff, along with other medical equipment. There was also a desk with a computer, behind the desk sat male vampire. He had black eyes like the rest of them. Just like the others, he was flawless with perfect hair but nice clothes. I awkwardly entered the room the rest of the way, and the door shut behind me. I jumped at the sound. The man sighed softly, seeming annoyed that I was there. I didn't want to be here either. "Step on the scale." He ordered. He did all of my vitals before sitting back down at the table. "Name?" I stuttered for a moment before saying, "Lily Hoffman." He typed it into the computer along with my weight and other information he gathered. He grabbed a little box and motioned with his hand for me to come to him. I walked over to him like he wanted. He pointed at my hand and motioned for the to. I gave him my hand. His hand was cold, hard, and smooth against mine. "Just a prick." He said as he pricked my finger with the box. It didn't hurt that bad. He squeezed my finger till there was a decent sized drop of blood on my finger. I expected him to put it in a vile or some type of case. But no. He leaned in and licked the blood off of my finger. I gasped in horror and ripped my hand away. I thought he was going to be angry and attack me for removing my hand. But I guess he was used to that reaction as he began typing and talking out loud. "Blood type AB Negative. Approximately 21 years old. Not pregnant. No s****l partners, so no STDs. No form of blood disease." He listed as he typed. "How.. How did you know all of that?" I asked. Surprised he knew of my virginity, he wasn't the first vampire to mention it. "Vampires have heightened senses. But we can see who a person is just by a drop of their blood." He told me as he continued to type. "Oh." I whispered. It still made no sense to me, but I wasn't going to question him. I was shocked he even answered my question. The male vampire finished typing and sighed. He then picked up the phone and dialed a quick number. "Room number 5 is ready." He said and put the phone back down. After a few moments, the door opened up. I expected to see Angelicas creepy smile, but it wasn't her. There stood another male vampire with black eyes. But I knew this one. I was shocked as I stared back at him. I was filled with shock and relief that he was OK. But then anger and the feeling of betrayal washed over me. There in the doorway was Brandon. Tylers friend who disappeared months ago.
