We traveled all night. My stomach felt queezy, and the bumpy roads didn't help.
Everyone was silently crying and whinpering. None of us knew what to expect. I still couldn't believe it was real. All of it. The vampires even existing and Tyler was gone.
I kept replaying the deaths and events that happened. How I wished this was all a dream. I wish I would wake up and be back in my old bed at my home. I wished it was Saturday morning, and my dad was in a good mood. I wished for the smell of pancakes and syrup. I wanted to be doing one of my dad's family adventures. Where I would act annoyed by it but secretly appreciate it. I never got a chance to tell him how much I loved spending time with him.
I was awoken from my daydreams by the doors opening , bright lights came made me shield my eyes with my arm. My eyes hurt and were red and puffy from crying for so long. A female voice told us to get up and form a line outside of the truck. As Heath uncuffed us from the bars. I made sure not to look at him. I hated him, and if he even smiled at me, I might hit him
We all did what the woman said, walking in a single file line outside of the truck. I tried my best not to trip climbing out of the truck. The vampire was a tall woman with ruby red hair and lips. She wore a short, tight black dress that matched her eyes and red high-heeled shoes. She was beautiful. Better than those models you would see in magazines.
I was confused by her clothes, though. Weren't we in some type of prison? She she be wearing something more intimidating? I shook those thoughts from my head. What was I thinking? She's a vampire. How much more intimidating can you get? She could still outrun us in those heels.
"I expect you girls to obey the rules of our facility. You will be clothed, fed, and bathed here."She looked at all of us with a smile. I'm not so sure why she was so happy. "You will not be killed unless you try to run. You will be under our care and protection until you are auctioned."She finished still giving us a creepy smile.
"And remember, you are blessed to be here."
I had to control my face from giving her a look. Blessed? They just murdered our friends and family, and now they're standing here, calling us blessed.
"Once everyone has showered, changed, and eaten their breakfast, we will move on to evaluate your health and mind." She finished with another lingering smile.
She began to lead us into a large gray building with many windows. There was nothing special about it. It looked like it could've been an old office building. We went through a very decorated lobby with paintings and sculptures everywhere.
She led us to a room with showers and bathrooms. Something I haven't seen in a very long time. They handed us fresh fold clothes. Grey T shirts and black sweatpants with no string. We also got white underwear, sports bras, and socks.
I followed the other girls' leads and went to shower. I started with the water being cold and crisp. Letting the pulsating water hit my face. It soothed my eyes after crying for hours. I opened my mouth and allowed the water to fill my mouth. The cold water washed through my hair running down my body.
I kept the water cold till I was shivering. I haven't felt anything cold in years. I decided to warm the water up and washed my hair and body from all the dirt and sand. I've been covered with sand for years. I barely remembered how it felt to not have grains of sand on my skin and in my hair.
After I finished and got dressed in the fresh clothes, I felt brand new. The shower had relaxed me and made me sleepy. I knew I shouldn't be this comfortable right now. I was in a building of vampires. They did promise us safety. Until we were auctioned off to another vampire. My blood and virginity were up for sale here, but I didn't feel worried at all.
One of the little soaps we used sat beside me on the bench. I picked it up and read what kind it was. It was infused with lavender and other essential oils to calm anxiety and panic attacks. Well, that'll do it. They had us lather ourselves in calming soaps.
I shook my head and placed the soap back down. I looked around at the others, and they all seemed to be calm and refreshed. I wasn't about to fight this feeling right now, I was too exhausted.
"Let's get you girls fed. Come on." The woman directed us again. I noticed she tapped her leg like we were dogs.
They took us to get some breakfast next. As we entered the big dining room, I took notice of a few things. One, there was a huge chandelier in the middle of the room. Two, there was a large table filled with food. And three, there were more girls than just us there. We weren't the only prisoners here. I don't know why I thought we would be. I guess I just thought everyone else would've been captured by now.
My group and I took our place in line. I hung out in the back of the line. It reminded me of a lot of high school days. Except the cafeteria wasn't this nice and usually the cafeteria was filled with voices. Here, a few girls whispered to each other, but it was mostly quiet.
I heard the sound of footsteps behind me, but I didn't want to look.
"I'm guessing you were just brought in today." a woman said from behind me. He voice made me jump. She didn't whisper like the rest. She wasn't loud either. She just spoke at a comfortable volume. I assumed she was a vampire, but when I turned around, she was another human.
She was Hispanic with brown eyes and long brown curly hair. She was a few inches shorter than me. The girl held herself in a calm manner but also seemed like nothing could hurt her.
I gave her a small nod, wrapping my arms around myself.
"I can tell. You're freshly showered, and showers aren't usually until night time." She said nonchalantly.
I didn't really know what to say, so I gave her a weak smile.
"Don't worry too much about the vampires here. They won't hurt you unless you give them a reason to. But no one has been that stupid." She said, shaking her head. "Sorry, I'm Jasmine."
I gave her another smile. "I'm Lily."
I approached the table filled with all sorts of breakfast food. There were, of course, eggs, bacon, sausage, and other breakfast meats. I was eyeing the pancakes, though. They had syrup and other fruit topping for them. I grabbed myself a good portion of pancakes topped with syrup and some bacon. I couldn't help but wonder who was butchering and collecting eggs. Were farmers still a thing? Were there normal jobs for a vampire to do?
I let Jasmine lead me to a table. We sat alone across from each other. I quickly dug my fork into the pancakes. I placed the fork in my mouth and couldn't help but moan from the taste. It had been too long since I tasted a normal breakfast. I've had vegetables and different animal meat for too long.
"So where were you originally from?" Jasmine asked between bites of her food.
Swallowing my food, I answered, "Up state New york." Digging my fork back into the pancakes. "You?"
"Chicago Illinois. "She answered.
She asked me a few other questions. I found out she was 28. She was about to graduate from college with her nursing degree when the vampires took over.
"All those years, wasted." She grumbled as she took her last bite.
I finished my food as well and followed her to return my dishes. I like Jasmine. She didn't seem to be scared about anything. She made me feel comfortable for a short time.
Jasmine whispered to me. "They're going to show you a video, then evaluate you next. Don't let them get into your head too much. Vampires can still kill you." Then she walked away to join the other girls lining up.
