Rameez pov:
Her expression changed in a blink, hadn’t I been looking close enough I would have missed it.
“yes, I recognize no one. We mostly talked on calls, rarely we met.” Narrowing my eyes I nodded letting the matter go, for now.
“its okay. I just wanted a base to work from. Now considering you don’t know any of these we need to work from start.” putting emphasis on any.
“okay, but as I said I need to talk to my parents. I am sure they were not happy with the arrangement.”
“Ms. Huda, it’s not about happiness anymore, It’s the only way to keep you with me and safe.”
She looked like she held in a witty remark and I smirked.
“Or if you want I could still hand you over to police and let them decide what they wanted to do with you.” Her eyes widened and she frowned anger visible in her eyes.
“you can’t blackmail me like that, Mr. Rameez.” I couldn’t help but chuckle at her. Which, by the way, seemed to made her more angry. “this is not funny, sir. My parents life could be in danger. I cannot hide here forever, Alya will kill my parents if I am disappeared for long. If you please let me talk to them.” She sounded sad now and that made me felt bad.
Gosh I can’t keep my mouth shut for a while. It was a desperate move, but I could not help it. She is always challenging me and it irks me. I composed myself and sat straighter. “you are right Ms. Huda, I am sorry for my crude behavior. But, you cannot call them from your phone, I believe your phone is getting tracked by them. So it’s switched off. You, however, will use a special phone to talk to them to ensure you’re not getting traced. “ I opened my side draw and fish out a new phone that cannot be traced.
Pushing the phone forward I urged her to take it, “this is a private phone, one that cannot be traced.” She nodded and held the cellphone in both her hands and look at me expectantly. My eyes widened a little when I realize what she meant. I gave her a sheepish smile and got up leaving the room. However, I did not leave. I stood by the door listening in to the conversation. I know, I know its wrong to eavesdrop but I am certain Ms Huda is hiding something important from me. And that important thing could help me get to Alya. I will probably tell hger later I eavesdropped, but for now I need the information she is not willing to tell me. Putting ,my ear closer to the door I heard rustling and footstep, making me step back a little. When I didn not hear footstep coming closer I resumed my place, she was walking around the room and soon I heard her voice and I leaned a little closer.
“hi, mum. It’s me.” Her voice seemed muffled and sad. And trust me I felt a tad bit bad.
“yeah, I’m fine. How’s paa? Is he taking his medicines?” there was a pause and I could still hear her moving around the room.
“yes, yes, I am safe. I’m with Mr. Rameez.” After a short pause, “Are you okay with what he proposed?” her tone seemed a little accusatory, honestly, I felt a little offended. She should be happy she gets to marry a man like, not that I want to brag. But, you know a man has his pride.
“maa, do you think it is okay. It’s not just a one day decision , it’s my life, maa.”
“yes, I know he will keep me safe and everything but a whole lifetime with someone I barely knew is a lot.” There was a brief pause before she continued, “really, and you believed him? What guarantee we have he will divorce me after a year.” I wanted to barge in and tell her, I always keep my words but knowing her she’ll probably just scream about eavesdropping. On that note I should just leave, I turned to leave but her voice stopped me, “there’s something I want to tell you, maa. Don’t panic.” Her voice dropped a little almost as if she was afraid someone will hear, the irony. I know I should go back but the urgency in her voice told me it is something big. ’yes maa, I know where’s Ahmed. He’s still alive, I just saw him.” A frown etched my face as I tried to make sense of it. There was silence before she continued, “Don’t worry maa, I’ll find him and get him back. He’s involved in bad things though. I might need to actually marry Mr. Rameez so I could get help.” The more she talked, the more confusing it got, who is Ahmed? What is their relation? Is it the man from picture? I decided she will probably come to me for help, so for now I will wait. “yes maa, but this doesn’t mean I have to like him. He is so….annoying and frustrating. I am only doing this for you….and for Ahmed now.”
I rolled my eyes at her description of me, and decided to wait ion living room before she catches me and starts a fight again. I walked in living room, and my phone rang. A smile reached formed my face after seeing alishba name flash on screen, its been a week we last talked. Ever since she and Ryan got together, they have been busy trying to makeup of lost time. I picked up my phone and I could hear Laila screaming in background and hear Ryan as well. As much as I am skeptical of him, he is still Laila’s father. I am learning to get along with him just fine. “hey stranger!” Alishba voice filled my ear and my eyebrow raised even though she can not see it. “hello, missy, you are the one lost with your husband. Like a newly married couple, you don’t even come to office. I should be mad.” I was frowning by now. She however, only chuckled and cooed, “aww, you’re missing me.” I heard Ryan voice asking why is he missing you? I chuckled, “tell him I am missing you.” I know I just wanted to spite him. “oh shut up both of you. I called to tell you we are having dinner for family tomorrow and you have to come. I am not asking. I am ordering you.”
“when have you not ordered me? I’ll be there but only for a hour or so, I have a-errr situation here that I can’t leave.” I told her not sure of how to tell her about Huda. “situation? Rameez, just put everything on hold for a night. Laila misses his uncle.” Oh I know that tone. “oh oh wait there miss, I know what you are doing there. I’ll be there, stop being a drama queen.” I rolled my eyes as I heard a squeal and chuckle from her. “alrighty see you tomorrow then.” She said and I speak before she could hung up, “oh and keep a space for an extra. I am bringing someone.”
“ohhh, ok” with that she hung up. Shaking my head I turned and decided to look for Huda. I stopped in my tracks when I saw her in kitchen eating. Diana had left after making dinner, I decided to join her but first it was time to start the plan. The first part was marrying Huda so I went to my room to get the ring that my mother once gave me for when I get married. I remembered how I had laughed and told her that I will probably give her back when I won’t get married after a while.
Taking out the ring, I smiled at the single blue stone shining brightly surrounded by tiny little diamonds. Although it was old but it was still elegant, placing the box in my pocket I went into kitchen and took a seat across her after filling my plate. Either she purposefully ignored me or was too engrossed in her phone, she did not notice me. I prefer the later for my ego. I cleared my throat and she looked up. “yes, Mr. Rameez?” she looked me confused,
“Ms. Huda, I believe the sooner we start our plan the sooner both of us get what we want. Now, I know you don’t like me, which is very offending considering my charm.” She rolled her eyes and I wanted to tell her to not do that but I continued, “anyways, considering, you are less aggravating now, I think its time.” I paused to take out the box and moved it towards her. “we are going tomorrow to a friend’s house, you’ll go with me…as my fiancé.” Her eyes widened as she looked at the box and then at me. If I did not any better I would say any minute now she will throw that box right at my face and it would mean war.
