Chapter 4

913 Words
Today !! It was the day my life was finally going to turn around. I had no idea whether it would be for the better or the worse, but I knew it would change today. I took a deep breath, trying to keep myself from getting nervous like I usually did. I glared into the mirror once again, trying to see how I looked for the day. Even though this was not what I expected my life to be. I had to accept whatever fate brought. Fate brought luck disguised as something else. I rushed to the hospital. I had to see my mum before I arrived at the court. Today was the day of her operation and I just had to see her before it started which was scheduled for 8 am. I had already gotten into a cab, and as I alighted, I felt a heavy burden lift from my chest as I slowly approached my mum’s ward. Seeing the bandages wrapped all over her head made me sad again. However, I assured myself that it would be fine and that she would be okay in the end. As I drew closer to my mum, who lay almost lifeless on the bed, even though she was unconscious I knew that she could still hear me. So, I started to speak. “Mum,” I said, taking a deep breath while looking at her. The words I was about to say felt so heavy at that moment. “I made a deal with someone influential to keep you alive, hale, and healthy because my wish is to always see you happy. So, I agreed to marry someone you don't know, and I don't know him either, have his child, and then everything will be okay. Your bills have been paid, you don't have to worry about anything.” “This is a hard decision to make, mum. I’m putting my life on the line, but I think it’s worth the risk because you are worth more than any risk. You are a treasure every daughter should have, and I would do anything for you. wherever dad is right now, I wish him all the best because he missed out on someone as Precious as you.” I said as I slowly wiped my tears. Almost immediately, the doctors came in to wheel my mum out of the ward, “ doctor”, I called out before the door finally closed. “Please do your best to save my mother, she is all I've got.” “We will do our best, ma’am,” the doctor said as I watched them wheel the stretcher out of the ward. ****** I’m sorry, Madam Bianca,” I said, feeling nervous. “I had to check on my mother at the hospital, today is her surgery day. That's why I’m a little late, ma. Please accept my deepest apologies.” “Do you think this is a comedy show? How could you be late for something as important as this?” She grabbed a glass of red juice and poured it over my face, which splashed all over my body, staining my short white gown which I had carefully ironed early this morning. “How could you be late for my son’s wedding? Have you forgotten how important it is?” she shouted, directing her aggression towards me. “Ma’am,” I began to explain, but before I could finish, a loud, hard slap landed directly on my face. A lone tear dropped down my chin as I looked at her in both shock and disbelief. At that moment I felt like crying my eyes out, if my mum was healthy, no one would dare to treat me this way. “Mary!” she called out, and in less than a second, the maid appeared in front of her. She was dressed in white apparel which I had earlier seen on someone before. “Take her to the room and make the necessary preparations for the wedding. The bride of the Whales family shouldn't be dressed like a pauper like the way she is dressed currently. “Bianca said, and I felt a little embarrassed. However, I tried my best to hide my emotions. “Mary, you have 30 minutes. Dress her properly and bring her downstairs so we can go to the court together. “Bianca said. I kept my feelings inside, reminding myself that I had already signed a contract with her. I had to marry her paralyzed son and bear her grandchild in exchange for the 130 million dollars she paid for my mother’s surgery. I had to stay strong for my mum. I couldn’t give up just yet, no matter how hard it gets. “Take off your dress, ma’am”, an older voice echoed behind me. I turned around to see a woman in her 50s. “No, don’t worry about it, I can take care of myself”, I said, trying to convince the maids not to get closer to me. “Ma’am, you need to understand that we are following strict instructions from Lady Bianca Whales. if anything goes wrong, we will lose both our lives and jobs.” Hearing those words sends chills down my spine. Even though the words sounded natural, I felt there was something more behind them. Who was she? Could she be a force everyone feared, or was she just Bianca Whales?
