Chapter 1
Chapter 1:
The summer sun was beating down on the small town of Millfield, as five friends gathered under the shade of a large oak tree. The group had been inseparable since they were kids, and now as they entered their final summer before college, they were determined to make it one to remember.
The group consisted of Olivia, the outspoken leader of the group, Michael, the quiet and reserved one, Emma, the peacemaker, Tyler, the jock, and Sarah, the artistic one. They had all grown up in the same neighborhood, and their bond had only grown stronger with time.
As they sat there, sipping on their iced teas, Olivia suddenly spoke up. "Guys, I have a secret to share with you all." The group immediately perked up, eager to hear what she had to say.
"I overheard my dad talking to his business partner about a big deal that's going down in a few weeks," Olivia said, her eyes wide with excitement. "And if everything goes according to plan, he's going to be making millions of dollars!"
The group gasped in awe, their minds already racing with ideas of what they could do with that kind of money. But then Olivia leaned in closer, her expression suddenly serious. "But here's the thing, guys. My dad made me promise not to tell anyone about it, not even you guys."
The group fell silent, their expressions reflecting a mix of confusion and concern. "So why are you telling us now?" Emma asked, her voice hesitant.
Olivia sighed, looking down at her feet. "Because I can't keep it to myself anymore. It's eating me up inside. And besides, we're best friends. We don't keep secrets from each other."
The group sat in silence for a moment, each lost in their own thoughts. Then Michael spoke up, his voice barely above a whisper. "But what if something goes wrong? What if your dad doesn't make the deal, or worse, what if something happens to him?"
The group fell silent once again, the weight of Michael's words hanging heavy in the air. They had all heard stories of how money could tear people apart, and the thought of losing their friend's father was too much to bear.
But Olivia was determined to see this through. "We'll cross that bridge when we come to it," she said, her voice firm. "But for now, we're in this together. No matter what happens, we stick together."
And with that, the group made a pact. A pact to keep Olivia's secret, no matter what. A pact that would ultimately test the strength of their friendship and the lengths they were willing to go to protect each other.
