Chapter 8: Meet The Parents

We saw our parents talking to some businessmen just near our table. We waited for them to be done before we approach them. I hope they’ll like Kyle. My parents aren’t really strict when it comes to me and  my decisions so I hope they’ll do the same when ut comes to my love life. They were done talking so we went up to them.

“Hey dad mom.”I said.

“Hey honey dear.” Mom said.

“I want you to meet my boyfriend. Kyle this is my mom, Theresa Villareal and my dad, Albert Villareal. Mom, Dad this is Kyle Martinez, my boyfriend.” I said.

“Good evening Ma’am and Sir. It’s nice meeting you.” Kyle said.

“It’s nice meeting you, too.” Mom said. “Kyle.”

“So you are Cassy’s boyfriend huh.” Dad said.

“Yes sir, I am.” Kyle said.

“So tell me, what’s your work? Or should I say what’s your line of business?” dad said.

“Our family has a construction company but I’m not much into construction so I decided to build a business of my own. I manage my own club.” He said.

“Well, construction business isn’t bad at all. It’s actually in demand right now.” Mom said.

“Yes, I guess but I’m not really into our family business. I like to make it on my own.” He said.

“Well, that’s very humble of you but don’t you think your club business is a little unstable? I mean, not everyone goes to a club but everyone buys things for construction.” My dad said.

“I think it might be a little unstable but for now it’s going really smooth and besides it’s what makes me happy and keeps me going.” Kyle said.

“You know that in life you don’t always get to choose what you like doing in your life. Sometimes, you need to make a choice that can benefit you in the future.” Dad said.

“Yes but I think I can always save and prepare for the future even without a business that’s as big as the others. I think a successful business is when you are handling it with your heart and it’s something that makes you happy and is the reason why you wake up every morning of your life.” Kyle said.

“You see, young man, our Cassy here is a little bit spoiled. Do you think that with your business you can take care of her and her needs in the coming future?” dad said.

“Darling, please stop it already. You’re taking this too seriously. You’re scaring the young man.” My mom said.

“Dad, please.” I pleaded.

“No, it’s okay babe. We were just talking and what your dad said is normal for him as a father.” Kyle said.

“Dad, Mom, will you excuse us for a while?” I said.

“Of course dear. Albert let’s go and greet some of our business partners over there. Give these two a break. “ My mom said.

“Thanks mom.” I said.

“Excuse us” Kyle said.

“We went outside the venue and found a spot where there were no people.

“I’m sorry about what dad said to you.” I said.

“It’s alright babe. It’s really nothing to me.” He said.

“It’s not nothing Kyle. He underestimated you. It’s very embarrassing.” I said.

“It’s just normal for him to react that way. You are his only child and I’m sure he only wants what’s best for you.” He said.

“But he can’t just judge and degrade people because he cares about me.” I said.

“I know. Let’s just let this pass. Okay babe?” he said.

 “Thank you for being so understanding babe. I love you.” I said.

“And I love you too. You know what? Let’s just enjoy the rest of the night. Shall we?” he said.

“We shall.” I said.

He hugged me and kissed me. I know Kyle is serious about us and I don’t want my parents to ruin it. We are just starting and I can’t wait for what’s in store for us. We stayed there and kissed more. It was what we both needed after a stressful night.

“You know I love you so much, right?” Kyle said after our passionate kisses.

“Yes, I know. I love you too.” I said.

“I will never fail you or your parents. I will continue working hard and I’ll prove myself to them. I want to be worthy of a woman like you, Cassandra.” He said seriously.

My heart melted at what he said. What did I do to deserve a love as great as this? I couldn’t ask for more.

“You know that you’re more than enough for me, right?” I said. “You have nothing to prove to them.”

“I know but there are just things that are out of our control.” He said. “I still need to prove myself to the people around us.”

“If only they could see what I saw in you then maybe they’ll understand why I am so in love with you.” I said as I give her a kiss on his cheeks.

“Don’t worry I will do everything to make sure your parents will like me.” He said.

“I know they’ll like you sooner or later. They’ll see how great of a man you are.” I said.

“You really think so?” he said.

“I don’t think so, I know so.” I smiled at him.

“Very well then.  Let’s get back inside. Your parents might hate me more if I keep you for rtoo long.” He said as he offered me his hand.

“Okay, let’s go.” I said.

We went back inside and looked for my parents. We found them at our table so we went directly to them. I know they’re just waiting for me to be back so we could go home.

“Sir, Ma’am, I’m sorry for taking Cassy for a long while.” Kyle said.

“It’s okay. Cassy, we have to go home already.” Dad  said.

“My apologies Kyle but we have to go home. It’s already late.” Mom said.

“No worries, ma’am. Let me walk you outside.” Kyle said.

“Thank you. Let’s go.” Mom said.

Dad has been quiet all throughout. We went to our car and there I said goodbye to Kyle.

“I’ll go home now too. Text me when you’re home.” He said as he kissed me on my cheeks.

“I will. Take care. Bye.” I said.

The drive home was awkwardly quiet and boring. I wanted to talk to dad but I don’t want him to get the wrong idea that I am against him. I stayed and quiet and just waited for the car to reach home. When we finally arrived, I excused myself and went to my room. I texted Kyle and told him that I’m home. He said that he’s home and too and is getting ready to sleep. We said our goodnights and due to the very tiring day, I slept immediately.
