Sphere of Lies

Melgaesia, a land of magic. A vast country along the ocean shore with borders that cut it off from the rest of the world. It was an independent country where all they had was all they needed. A land of prosperity and plenty and yet was ruled with fear. Preator Corbin, the ruler of Melgaesia, was a man of evil. A man who ruled by disposing those who opposed him and threatening those who dared to try. He was a tyrant who reigned with the comfort of his dark artefact: the Althea Sphere. It was an object of dark magic, known for its ability to manipulate matter, control minds, and summon an army of unearthly creatures who did the bidding of their master. Dark and evil creatures that came from the shadows and lived in the shadows. With the Althea Sphere in his possession, Corbin took comfort in his rule. Never had he been opposed, until one fateful year when Corbin had fallen gravely ill, with only the power of the Althea Sphere to sustain him. Five brave village men, seeing the opportunity to get rid of their wicked leader along with his artifact, slipped into his chambers and killed him. Together, they shattered the Althea Sphere into five pieces. Each took one and agreed to hide them so that the world would never know such evil again. The five villagers set off on their different paths and established residence in the five corners of Melgaesia where they founded their clans, which all have come to know as the Five Great Clans of Melgaesia. The once simple village men became the new order of Preators, the leaders, and protectors of their region. Sworn to defend them against the evils of the outside world, to usher in an era of security and harmony, and to defend them for generations to come. The land was finally cleansed from the harsh and terrible period of reign which could only be described with one word: wretched.
