Edge Of Danger

374 Words
It was a cold Thursday afternoon in January. Although the weather was expected to be warmer, winter somehow found its way into the day. I was rushing to catch lectures because I was ten minutes late and it was our first lectures after returning from the Christmas break so I didn’t want to be late. On a short turn onto a corridor, I bumped into someone and my books and pen fell and so did hers. I quickly gathered my stuff and helped her pick her things up. I said sorry, and without even realizing it, I didn’t even take a look at her face and left. Luckily I entered the lecture room a few seconds before the lecturer entered. The class lasted for two hours and a half and after class, I packed my stuff and left as fast as I came because I had an article to deliver and the deadline was that Thursday. Just before I could exit the door, somebody tapped my shoulder from behind. When I turned, it was Eliot, one of my friends smiling at me like he’s just seen his crush. I waited outside near the door until he came out. “It’s been a while bruh. Where dafuck were you during the break. I mean we were all busy but you could have at least reached out to somebody” He asked through the hand shake and the hug. “I know man. I traveled out with my old girl to get goods for her business. We got back two days ago and I just came to my apartment this morning. I planned on calling you guys today” I lied. “Well, you might wanna explain that to the group yourself. We’re having a little bonfire hangout tonight, you might wanna come” he said. “Uhh…okayyy. I will” I replied, although not certain if I wanted to go. ”You sure?” he asked. “yeah yeah” I said. “Alright. Did you drive?” ”Nah. I left my card at home. Security was too strict so had to park outside” I said. ”Come on, lemme give you a ride to the entrance” he offered and I accepted.
